Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I'm just finished a biography of Milk Fanning, Surf for your life. I'm just starting The Devils Eye, by Ian Townsend, a fictionised story but based on real events of hurricane Mahina in North qld, 1899. so I am a very Aussie reader at the moment.

message 15303: by Nicki (new)

Nicki Markus (nickijmarkus) | 168 comments I haven't done this for a while, so I thought I'd weigh in with my current reads. At present, I am reading an MM anthology, plus an MM short (both for review), while in my personal reading, I am about to start Orlando and am making my way through the two box sets of Vampire Knight manga.

message 15304: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9836 comments I've finally got around to reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It's really very good (so far). It's been on the top of my tbr and on my kindle for ages so I don't know why it's taken me so long to get to it.

Ryan I'm reading a fantasy anthology - Engraved on the Eye, by Saladin Ahmed. It has a Middle Eastern flavour, which is always fun.

message 15322: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I am knee-deep in Sara Donati's opening novel of her Wilderness series called Into the Wilderness. 'knee-deep' means about halfway thru! I'm starting to fret that I won't have Book #2 ready at hand, as it's coming via inter-library loan:(

Upstate New York in 1790's with Elizabeth Middleton, Nathaniel Bonner and their assorted Anglo and Indian co-characters. There's even a nod to Diana Gabaldon as a couple of Outlander characters make guest appearances.

message 15323: by [deleted user] (new)

I've been reading Robert Drewe lately. His essays are better than his fiction.

K | 1143 comments As well as Daughters of Fortune Daughters of Fortune by Tara Hyland , I am also reading A French Girl in New York A French Girl in New York (The French Girl #1) by Anna Adams on my iPhone. The first has been really engrossing (I'm almost finished). The second one is cute and readable enough, but quite silly with not much substance.

I swing between agreeing with you and some of the time not enjoying it. The plotting is masterfully done though! And the length is definitely called for, there is no spare writing.

Sounds good! Middlesex is on my iPad. I read The Virgin Suicides earlier this year and enjoyed it very much — if anyone can enjoy such a dark topic.

I've just started The Art of Fiction. I've been delving into lit-crit and author biographies lately, and thought this book might be a good addition. I'm enjoying it so far, as David Lodge has a light touch.
