Maggie Finished The Girl Who Played with Fire I'm giving it 4 stars. The story remains involved and interesting but I felt this book could have been edited a little. The middle section seemed to go on forever, and then the final chapters were full of action. And for me the Swedish names became confusing at times, not only of the characters (they all begin with B) but the locations, street names and so on. Not usually a problem for me but it became annoying during the middle section where I felt the book slowed.

And I have already begun the third book The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest. The first part has flown by, it remains full of action, continuing on from the exact minute the second book ends.

I have heard of Johnny Depp, but not the others. Sometimes I feel out of step with the world around me.
I suppose I am, having just turned 67, but still feel 21 inside :-o)

I only know Chris Colfer, Johnny Depp and Severus Snape. No idea who the others are. lol.

Oh and good choice with Severus Snape. =)

message 1364: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) Just finished the first installment of the The Hunger Games trilogy in a flash! And instantly start on the next one, Catching Fire. The first book was a great page turner, packed with breath-taking action! For those who've read it, would like to know your thoughts?

message 1365: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments 'Amazing songs' is the biggest understatement of the century!

Ive read the entire Hunger Games trilogy! I gave The Hunger Games & Catching Fire five stars each. I loved them both. I cant decide which one I like better? The first was really exciting and refreshing, but the second was suspenseful for longer...and there is a GIANT MEGA AWESOME cliffhanger at the end. Wait till you see the cliffhanger in 'Catching Fire'.
Plus, the climax of Catching Fire is outstanding. Cant say anymore, or else it'll be a spoiler.
Then comes the finale: Mockingjay (keeping in mind I gave the first two books full marks...and only twenty books on my shelf have five stars) I gave it 2 stars. Well, 1.5 stars.
It is totally different from the first two, the plot is SLOW, and whilst there is suspense boiling, its not enough. The ending climax sucks, the deaths scenes are weak, and Suzanne Collins is a total COP OUT when it comes to the important, exciting scenes (again, no spoilers. Though im sure you'll figure out which ones I mean when your done with #2)
Please finish quick so we can discuss please :D

Oh...I thought the part where you wrote 'The ending climax sucks, the deaths scenes are weak,' sounded a bit spoilery..my bad.

message 1371: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments oh, well it depends how much you count as a spoiler, I guess. I didnt really give anything away except for "(blank) dies", but thats to be expected in a book series where 'Children fight to the death on a live television program'

lol. I see what Laura means - anything re ending would count as spoiler, me thinks. I am pacing through Catching Fire now, hope to finish... in a few hours! :D

Hehehe, yes. This is what I mean. Anything about the end of a book is spoiler related. Doesn't really matter how big or small it is.

Lol..Gl pacing yourself xD Sounds like you are really getting great enjoyment from the series :D

I'm currently reading Crack House by Harry Keeble

Finding it hard to keep to one book as of late >_<;

I'm halfway through the third book too, Maggie. I feel like you that the books could have been edited - by a quarter I'd say, and they wouldn't have lost anything. At least Stieg L isn't still giving the dimensions of a house by centimetres. At least not so far. Laurel

Next up: The Tiger's Wife: A Novel by Tea Obreht, one of this year's Orange Prize finalist. It's set in the Balkans and its about unravelling a family mystery as the main characters tracks down the past of her grandparent... should be interesting!

I just finished "Merlin": Lancelot and Guinevere. It was really good. As I'm interested in both writing novels and scripts, it's cool that I can read what they did in the show and then a novelisation of it. Has anyone else read any of these books? I've read almost all of them. haha. =)

Maggie Finished the third in the Millenium series - The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest
thoroughly enjoyed the final book, much more than the second which seemed to drag.
Also finished Mrs. Dalloway for the April challenge. Not my style of writing at all.
Now on to the next for the Autumn challenge, The Copper Beech which I read years ago. It's ok.

I wondered if there was a book to go with the series. I had a look in the book shops when the first series was on because my sister organised her family social calender around the kids watching that, so I wanted to get it for them for christmas. Didn't see it, so I gave up. This was before I found goodreads. So which is the first one? It is deffinitely on the christmas gift list this year.

message 1396: by Davina (new)

Davina | 154 comments Well I'm about a 5 chapters into The Gift and put everything on hold to readBeyond Toddlerdom: Keeping Five to Twelve Year Olds on the Rails as I really needed some suggestions to stop my house being in constant screaming mode got what I needed just have to implement it there is allot of stuff I don't need yet so I think in years to come this might be one of my favourites from the library. So I stopped reading that when The Gathering arrived in the mail. I'm a huge fan of Kelley Armstrongs and I really enjoyed it. This is the second series of her YA books and the first one in this series. I would love someones opinion who hasn't read any of her adult series or the last YA series the Darkest powers. I think I was reading too much info into it becasuse I had too much background of this world. I'll re read it when I'm not doing so many challenges and try to block out all my previous knowledge.

There isn't one for every episode but they have companion ones, ones for young adults and ones for the younger audience. I think they're awesome. Really entertaining. I'm sure you'll love it. I just ordered another one (I think it's the last one left I haven't got). =)
