I also got stuck on city of glass... the funny parts are at the end i think its all a bit to emotionally draining during the main parts of the book.
Also can you please tell me how you like the forest of hands and teeth when you start it i have been thinking about picking myself up a copy of thatt!!

message 1002: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not sure either, I think t he clary and jace thing kinda just wore me down a bit i justed wanted it all cleared up! but i thought the ending was great i just really enjoyed the first two books and I just felt that COG wasn't as good (but don't get me wrong it was good) I love that series to i think i have read it twice not as many as you haha :D

message 1003: by [deleted user] (new)

really that soon?
yay! :D
I have read clockwork Angel I loved it!
I think I liked it more then the City of series, I cant wait for the next one.
have you read it?

message 1004: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh Thank you :D
yes i liked Jem too! ah the ending with Will I'm very excited to find out all about that!
But my favorite character has to be Mungas Bane!
I love love love him :D

Bronwyn Rykiert | 315 comments I have just finished reading Perfect Score by Susan Roebuck and I really enjoyed it. I have just started reading Wild Card by Lora Leigh and I am still listening to on my IPod Death Was the Other Woman: A Novel by Linda L. Richards and I have just finised listening to on CD Whispers on the Water byAudrey Howard and I am about to start on audio The Pursuit by Johanna Lindsey

message 1006: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Everyone says that Clockwork Angel is better. I am incredibly excited to start that soon :)
Setting an Urban fantasy in Victorian London is a magnificent idea.
As far as favorite characters go, I definitely love Alec Lightwood ♥♥♥
I also have quite a fondness for Luke and Isabelle.
However, I liked all the characters better in City of Bones. After that they seemed to drain a little, if you know what I mean? Though still good!
However, I dont see what the fuss about Magnus is? He isnt that attractive in my mind-he isnt all that interesting as a character either. I think Clare could have made him more facinating, since he is the High Warlock of Brookyln.

I am enjoying City of Glass-but not loving it.
Like the others, it doesnt make me want to read non-stop like I would so with other books. Plus, Im not liking Jace+Clary. That is INCEST TO THE EXTREME!
However, my friend told me the final Jace/Clary twist, but still...its creepy at the moment.

message 1007: by [deleted user] (new)

wow i would kill if some one told me the ending...however i can see how some people would want to know before the wait is frustrating sometimes.
there is more to Magnus bane in clock work angel and that might make him more interesting to you..??
and i agree from TMI Alec is also my favorite those eyes!!
on and carmel i read the first chapter and some of the teasers
i'm liking how the clock work angel series is starting to be tied in :D this is making out to be one interesting series, i never thought she would go this deep with connecting the stories and characters, I'm excited its not over yet ( since harry potter finished and eragon started failing I have been waiting and wanting new epic series to arise it appears I have it :D)

Heh, I was mad! Still kinda am. Granted, I dont know HOW the final twist will unfold, but I still know what will happen in advance. She also told me that X kills X :(
Shes basically told me the whole thing, except for the location of the third Mortal Instrument-the mirror. I guessed that for myself the second it was mentioned.
And Im sorry for the spoilers :S
I didnt realize I had spoiled anything. I'll put a warning next time!

message 1009: by [deleted user] (new)

O thats gay did you throw something at your friend?
haha
there are so many little twists in COG it would suck to have them spoiled!
thats maybe why your finding it hard to get through cause you know whats going to happen and you kinda just want it to happen already?

message 1010: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Probably, though I guess its been like that for the whole trilogy (before I knew the ending). I like it, but there is no burning desire to pick it up one I put in down.
Actually, I dont think ALL the plot twists have been ruined, just a few 'big' ones.

message 1011: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Yeah, I'll do that Carmel. Forget the ending and just read the book as the events happen :)
Oh, and that jewelry was wonderful! Which ones did you order?

*Jessica* and Mandy - The Forest of Hands and Teeth is certainly quite a title - the imagination boggles.

My personal favourite is from many years ago: "And To My Nephew Albert I Leave The Island What I Won Off Fatty Hagan In A Poker Game". Can't remember the author, but very entertaining.

Monya (aka Mary)

Maggie STILL trying to finish The Distant Hours - the end is in sight.Good story but that book needs some serious editing.

message 1014: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) And to My Nephew Albert I Leave the Island What I Won Off Fatty Hagan in a Poker Game is by David Forrest. It is a great title. Goodreads has no description or reviews of it - can you tell us a little bit about it? Or write a little review for it maybe even?

message 1015: by Neko (new)

Neko BAH! I'm still trying to finish this Rendezvous At Kamakura Inn
Something about it isn't sitting right. It might be the names even though I know how they sound. But I find myself confused more often than not. Might need to read it in bigger sittings than small ones like I keep doing.

Sorry, sweetie, it's from the 1970s I think, and you might have to look up Abe books. All I remember is the hero is a nice ordinary chap who works in a movie theatre. He takes his girlfriend to the island, off the edge of England somewhere, both with every intention of consummating their relationship. They are interrupted by a Russian warship grounding itself on the beach - dark, fog?

Then there's an American ship gets grounded on the other side. Not sure if it's a submarine or what, or whether it was an accident or they're there to watch the Russians. Height of the cold war, remember. Anyway, the respective governments won't let anyone move until they've settled what's to be done - I don't recall the political motivations! So the chap, his girl and the two crews have to stay there. It's his personal island, remember, not under British jurisdiction, and I think that causes a whole lot of problems too. They get all friendly because they're there for weeks and - I'm darned if I remember the ending. Nothing unpleasant anyway.

I do recall the author was a screenwriter or such and I think he wrote it hoping to sell the movie rights. And now I've stirred your curiosity I expect you'll have trouble finding the thing!

Monya (aka Mary)

message 1024: by [deleted user] (new)

I am reading Unaccustomed Earth. I'm getting a bit of a head start on my Autumn Challenge (don't tell Mandy). It is a series of short stories by Jhumpa Lahiri. I have already read her short stories in Interpreter of Maladies which were beautiful. The AC gave me the excuse I was looking for to read this one too.

Brenda - i FINALLY got to read Virals. I honestly thought it was quite a good read, though I had a bit of a problem with the main characters being so young and their knowledge ... it seemed a bit far stretched to me. BUT loved the story .... just started another Reichs book, which got me hooked already :-)

I'm currently reading Deja Dead. Have you read that one?

Yes I think it's her first book .... i love the way it's set in montreal ... i used to live there for a tiny while and really loved the atmosphere .... brings back memories ... though fortunately NOT of dead bodies ... LOL

Patricia (rizeandshine) Looks like you got lucky finding that one, Cheryl. I can't find it in any local library and it's listed used on Amazon for the low price of $375. I'm going to have my daughter check her university library.

I just finished rereading this one too a I have been trying to find all my childhood favourites for my niece who has similar taste to me. It was really fun to reread it. Hope you think so too.

Kristyh | 3 comments I am reading A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. I am about 3/4 of the way through. The humour is dark and very funny, the description of the holidays spent with the cousins and Owen as the Baby Jesus in the Nativity Play and the removal of the VW from the Morning Meeting are excellent and hilarious. I am waiting for the dreadful stuff to happen.

message 1041: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Patricia, I can't imagine anyone paying $375 for it. I'm not very far - but it seems only fun, not wonderful. David Forrest. Unless the authors, David Eliades and Robert Forrest Webb, who created the pseudonym David Forrest, are beloved for other works.

Dot (busyozmum) | 116 comments I just finished Life of Pi and really loved it. I'm sad it's finished. :o(

I've been reading The Hunger Games for weeks and haven't been able to get into it until now. I'm about half way through and it's really taking off and running now. Eeek! Don't know why I've been dragging my feet with it. It's well written and most enjoyable. (shrugs) Must be all my extra curricular activities dragging me back a bit.

message 1044: by ★ Jess (new)
