I look forward to seeing how you like 'The Curious incident ...'. I still think about one of the puzzles in the book., years later.

★ Jess | 3071 comments I love 'The Curious Incident of the dog in the Night-time'. It is one of the most original/unique books I have ever read. Its got a lot of swearing, but im sure you will love it!

Thank you J. for your input on Hunger Games. My son hasn't read them yet, either - maybe we'll both read them this summer.

Dee-Ann | 644 comments I am attempting for the second time Parrot and Olivier in America. I am finding I am resorting to the dictionary more than usual, which is probably a good thing.

Dee-Ann | 644 comments Started reading Middlesexduring lunch at work today. Has anyone else read this, what did they think of it?

message 756: by Liz (new)

Liz Hi Dee-Ann, I have Middlesex out from the library at the moment - (along with 21 others!!) - glad to hear it's funny, I might move it up a little higher in my pile. Some of them are talking book CDs, so it's not as bad as it sounds ;)

I have only read 10 pages so far, 519 to go, so I cant vouch yet that it will be funny all the way through.

21 books hey, that sounds dauntingly familiar. We are allowed to borrow 15 at a time, but I also have the libray cards of 4 of my children, which often results in me having a lot more out ... I laugh at times about the books my 5 year old has out at times, they must think he is a reading genious.

message 758: by Neko (new)

Neko @Dee-Ann: Hahaha..Nice way to get around the 15 book limit! ;)

Wow, I don't even know how many books we are allowed at once, haven't borrowed a book from my lib in years.

message 759: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments I like libraries, but I rarely go to them. I collect books. I like To buy them, then display them proudly on my shelf forever. The only books I borrow are sequels to books I didn't enjoy, but am still interested in reding.

Anyway, I am about to start Extras by Scott Westerfeld. One of the many books I own :)

message 760: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (andreasfair) Im a quarter through "Juliet, Naked" by Nick Hornby. Hornby is one of my favourite authors, Im hoping this improves a little.

message 761: by Bronwyn (new)

Bronwyn Rykiert | 315 comments I have just finished "The Immortal Hunter" by Lynsay Sands - another good book in her vampire series. I have just started reading "The Twilight Before Christmas" by Christine Feehan. I am also part way through "The Shipping News" by Annie Proulx, "Sizzling Sixteen" by Janet Evanavich and "For the Roses" by Julie Garwood.

I am still listening to "Chosen" on my Ipod and a Shiela O'Flanagan story on CD in the car.

I may have takne on a bit much - I will see how I go over the next few days.

I had to read this one for Book Club and it was okay, good for discussion though. I was the only one who did not realize it was a true story? I also watched the movie before I read it - that was okay too, I probably enjoyed that more than the book.

message 763: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 06, 2011 08:13PM) (new)

A collection of 'Banjo' Paterson poems, selected by Les Murray.

message 764: by Rosanne (new)

Rosanne Andrea - The Shipping News is a terrific book. One I have read twice. Yes, that good. It's known for its terse language - some very strange sentences, but they work.

message 765: by Maxine (new)

Maxine (caffeine_chapters) | 21 comments Pride and Prejudice (audio book) and Adam Bede (Kindle). After years of reading only horror I've discovered the classics and can't get enough of them :)

how did you like JE's "Sizzling Sixteen"? I was a bit disappointed.
Which O'Flanagan book are you reading ? I've only read "Someone special" which wasn't too bad.

I started it awhile ago and put it down and I am just now thinking I should finish it. I haven't actually really enjoyed the last couple in this series and I wish she would get positive in her relationship with Joe Morelli - I love him and Ranger.

Far from Over and it is pretty good. This is my first novel by O'Flanagan.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Dee-Ann wrote: "Started reading Middlesexduring lunch at work today. Has anyone else read this, what did they think of it?"

It wasn't my cup of tea at all, in fact I only read, um, about 50 pp. I wanted to like it for the theme, but the characters and the style were just... weird. To me.

message 771: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (goodreadscomjovo) | 262 comments My Christmas book was Australian writer Kate Morton's new novel "The Distant Hours". Thoroughly enjoyed it, as I did "The House at Riverton" last year.

Re "The Shipping News" mentioned earlier - I love this book too, and have read it twice. One of my all time favourites!

@ Maxine - I wish I was reading "Pride and Prejudice" for the first time! It's one I go back to and re-read every few years.

Like Clockwork by Margie Orford

message 797: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Beastly was a pretty good book. The trailer reveals that the movie will not be true either in theme & attitude nor in appearance to the book. (We had a whole discussion on another of my groups.)

Even though I strongly dislike Vanessa Hudgens-it looks like a really good movie. I tried to find the book at library yesterday, but it was on loan.
I rarely go to the library, I prefer buying books-but the few times I do go, the book(s) I want are all out :(

Anyway, I think Im about to start reading City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. Ive heard great things about this books. Fingers crossed :)
