I think it's just some of the writing in them, like the article I linked. I quite liked what of the Da Vinci Code I read, all that sort of cult puzzle stuff interests the hell out of me, Dan Brown just has a very odd (and sometimes hilarious) way with words.

I think I was intrigued mostly by the "cult," as you say, "puzzles," and failed to pay much attention to Brown's stylistic idiosyncrasies. I'd thought you were suggesting that people were picking up the book just to deride Brown, though, for whatever reason, and -- since there's so much derision-worthy "literature" out there -- I couldn't figure out why Brown would be a particularly egregious example. He writes page-turners devoid of sparkly vampires. That, in itself, ought to earn him at least a modicum of respect. :)
Oh I wasn't saying they were right, just that a lot of people were doing it. xD I agree completely that there are much more appropriate things to take the piss out of than Dan Brown's stuff.
Kathryn wrote: "Yes, very funny article, Liam! And I agree, Brenda - one Dan Brown book was enough..."Ha, ha Liam with that article. I'm with Brenda and Kathryn. One book was enough. But hey, he's laughing all the way to the bank!
I've got a few on the go. Finishing of last months book club book Gone Girl. I'm also reading The Fault in our Stars & City of Ashes. Also got At Last by Jill Shalvis which I just started for a June reading challenge.

Thanks. That was helpful. I'd been wondering whether to try to secure a copy.

Enjoy:) Actually, that one should be listed under your suspense/mystery category:)

Just started The Light Between The Oceans by M.L Stedman. Read lots of good reviews about this book.

The Light Between Oceans is a brilliant book Sharon! You can use it for your June monthly challenge;)

Great to know Brenda. I never got a list done for the challenge but maybe I will join in when there is another one :)
You don't need a list for the monthly ones Sharon, the book you're reading is a qualifying book for the month's challenge, so you can just read it, and comment of the fact that you did!! http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
Oh ok thanks Brenda. I'm still learning how all this works. It's nice to know there is always someone to help guide me in the right direction :)

Sharon wrote: "Just started The Light Between The Oceans by M.L Stedman. Read lots of good reviews about this book."I picked up this one and another on my to read list the other day at the library. Only trouble is about six other library books waiting to be read first. Of course I may not read them all or may just cheat a read out of order.
I know the feeling Dale think I have 9 waiting for me at the library. They all seem to come in all at once. I can't keep up that's for sure.
Just about to start
Love this series. It's the sister series of The Moon Dwellers, both series are merging together, I'm so excited!
Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier. It's about the discovery of fossils in the Lyme Regis cliffs. Chevalier is adept at bringing historical incidents to life and this is probably one of her most skilful ones. It's an easy read, relaxing and not too demanding. Just right for the weekend or bedtime.
I'm listening to Frantic at the moment and while I'm enjoying the story, I'm a bit irritated by the narrator's voice - it sounds a bit childish and has quite a pronounced Aussie accent, which is a shame. And now I've just realised that the next audiobook I picked up today - Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden - is being read by the same person...! Perhaps she'll use a different accent... Then again, perhaps not. Maybe in future I should try to stick with British narrated audiobooks since British accents seem to have the least potential to annoy me! At the very least I will try to avoid this narrator in future if she sounds no different reading The Forgotten Garden.

That's one of the reasons I dislike audio books Kathryn...that and the fact that I can read faster than they talk!! It's a shame to be spoiled by a poor narrator, when Frantic is brilliant!

I actually borrowed the proper book from the library and have it sitting here as well, but while I also can read faster than the narrator talks, I can't crochet at the same time!! And I'm about 3/4 of the way through so I'll just persist. I don't know that the narrator is actually spoiling the story, however her voice sounds most babyish in regards to Sophie so I probably don't really like Sophie as much as I might have otherwise. But since I haven't started The Forgotten Garden I'm not sure what to do about it!!
Brenda wrote: "Kathryn wrote: "I'm listening to Frantic at the moment and while I'm enjoying the story, I'm a bit irritated by the narrator's voice - it sounds a bit childish and has quite a pronounced Aussie acc..."While ever I still I have eyes to read I can't see me ever listening to a book.
Currently have bypassed a few others on the coffee table due back at library earlier to get to The Light Between OceansThat will be my June read in Aussie Author challenge.
Dale - not too long ago I also thought audiobooks were only for people with vision impairment. Then in November last year I started to crochet...! I can crochet and watch TV/DVD, but audiobooks are still better because I don't have to look at anything other than what I'm doing. And it's great because I feel really productive since I'm doing 2 things at once! I still prefer reading proper books - I wouldn't just sit and listen to an audiobook unless I'm crocheting.
Audio books are great for driving. I have a 35 minute drive to and from work. Sometimes I wish it were further when I get to a really good bit.
I'm currently listening to Back Story, David Mitchell's autobiography on my drives to work - it is read by the man himself, which I think is why I'm enjoying it so much. I can only really see myself listening to autobiographies and so on read by the author (Stephen Fry's are the other ones I want to get hold of). It really adds to it.

I tried on two separate occasions to listen to audiobooks, while walking...now I just listen to music:)

So glad you enjoyed The Light Between Oceans Sharon:)

I just finished House on Burra Burra Lane. Next book for me is 'Lost' by Michael Robotham, and I have a heap of freebies on my Kindle, one of which is "Big Girls Do It Better" by Jasinda Wilder. I'm getting really picky about my Kindle reading these days. My own fault really - I pick up free books and then usually, I don't like them or don't finish them. Kindle reading is very disposable (or it can be).Happy weekend everyone.

I really enjoyed The House on Burra Burra Lane by Jennie Jones Lily! I haven't read Lost though I've enjoyed others by Michael Robotham. Big Girls Do It Better I haven't heard of....enjoy your reading Lily, and your weekend:)
They say that you get what you pay for, and this is usually true, but just occasionally, you manage to get a lot more: I'm currently reading (about 1/3 through) and very much enjoying
The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. I love the cover too, and it cost me 67c some time back at a charity book sale!!
Brenda wrote: "Dale wrote: "Brenda wrote: "Kathryn wrote: "I'm listening to Frantic at the moment and while I'm enjoying the story, I'm a bit irritated by the narrator's voice - it sounds a bit childish and has q..."I listen to music when in the car. Can't sing along to an audiobook and since I walk with my husband we usually chat.
I've just finished The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson - it was excellent. I'm amazed at how many different types of worlds he manages to think up!
Started The Shortest Way Home by Juliette Fay. A disarming book...Not from either challenge. Just a little 'side' read.

I started reading
last night as I really want to get it read before the mini series starts.I will also soon be starting
as part of a buddy read for another group.
Reading Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah.Part of Winter challenge. I'm not sure I'll like this one; the three main character's are rich, beautiful and have it all blah, blah. It didn't sound like that from the reviews.
I'm only at Pg 80 so hoping the author completely surprises me and I really enjoy it by the finish...
