These faces are sooo cute. Love the dogs. The cat with the yellow eyes was a bit weird for me.

message 117: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments I think that Amazon can sell it but it should not be easy to access.

message 118: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
News today, they pulled it. I didn't read the article, just saw the headline.

message 119: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments Thats cool! It was not a book made for the public but more for a select few.

message 120: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I felt ill after reading that. So glad they pulled that.

message 121: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments I do not understand why somebody would even write a book like that, but there are probably other books similar to this one.

message 122: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen It's hard when you're able to self-publish e-books on their site like that... not easy to police, and things that wouldn't get through any publishing house can get through there.

message 123: by Adam (new)

Adam | 83 comments As I've been saying in the banned books thread... why do you think books need to be policed? I think banning books will eventually result into more problems than not banning them, whatever the content.

message 124: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Okay, policed was a bad word. But I doubt any publisher would decide to put this book under their name. That's all I mean.

message 125: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I think any web site has the right and sometimes the obligation to "police" their information especially if there is no limit to who can upload to it. It is under their name and like it or not reflects directly on them.

I also believe that you have a right to police your own reading materials and that parents have the obligation to do this for their children.

I don't see either of these actually banning books. They may include some banning, especially on the part of parents, but for the most part it is just disengaging themselves from questionable information and materials.

message 126: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Tami, I like that! "Disengaging themselves from questionable information and materials." What a great way of putting it.

message 127: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
I like that thought as well! I agree with you though--I would want to distance myself far from that. I think as a company they have the right to choose what they sell or don't sell.

message 128: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments Companies do have a right to sell what they want but consumers influence companies greatly and if a company does not sell what consumers want, consumers get angry and boycott them.

message 129: by Adam (new)

Adam | 83 comments yeah, I fully support Amazon's right to sell whatever they want. But I also believe you can write a book about whatever you want. And if this was published via-Amazon's self publishing tool... then yeah, they have a right to deny it for sure.

Tahleen, I would agree that no major publisher would. But there are publishers out there that would definitely print this kind of stuff. It's been printed by other places for years.

message 130: by Mandee (new)

Mandee (amandalinajanel) | 378 comments I don't get it. Wasn't it Amazon that a couple of years ago was practically making it impossible to find books written by gay authors or that included gay themes??? Apparently they took down Ellen Degeneres book from their featured section, or whatever, and if you put it in their search it brought up some christian books with it or something?? I'm probably not getting this story right, but I definitely remember something about this...

So they'll "police" the content when it's something normal and legal, but when it's illegal pedophile stuff it's all open access/here you go... crazy.

message 136: by Kelly (new)

I saw it awhile back. I don't get it. Really, are jeans so uncomfortable you need them to be pajama bottoms? My jeans are probably the more comfortable out of most of my clothes.

message 144: by MarielaBlu (new)

MarielaBlu (queenscove) I love title of this thread! It's awesome!!
Here are some weird laws I have heard or read about. And there are others that made laugh or right out giggle. :)

1) In California, a law created in 1925 makes it illegal to wiggle while dancing.
(I'm from Cali and I didn't know this!!! I so should have been arrested by now. )

2) In Miami, it is forbidden to imitate an animal.

3) In Memphis, Tennessee, a woman is not to drive a car unless a man warns approaching motorists or pedestrians by walking in front of the car that is being driven.
(OMG it this true??!! That would cause so much traffic in CA then there already is.)

4) In Georgia, it is against the law to slap a man on the back or front.
(So where do you slap him when he's a jerk????)

5) In Providence, Rhode Island, it is against the law to jump off a bridge.
(Do you still put an arrest warrant on their death certificate??)

6) In Georgia, it's against the law to spread a false rumor.
( If only it were enforced during high school!!)

Upside the head? :)

In Utah, it used to be illegal to spit on the sidewalk. Not sure it is still on the books though.

message 146: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments It's also illegal to drive faster than a Seagull in Utah.

Saw this on Pinterest.

"Today while sitting in my college English class, I texted my boyfriend and told him that I was bored. Not even 5 minutes later he came bursting in the door yelling 'Troll in the dungeon!!...just thought you oughta know' and then collapsed on the floor just like in Harry Potter. Not only was the teacher laughing so hard he let us go early but I think I found the one."

First, this is hilarious. Second, how come fun things like this never happened in any of my classes?

message 149: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I saw that on Pinterest too, made me laugh out loud. I could totally see that happening at my school.
