R7: Team #8 ~ Octing Up

I have quite a few zombie books that were on the shelves, but I'm probably going to take advantage of the one person who shelved

"Very Charley" LOL. I've decided that the twist in my humor that loves bad puns, the one which enables me to watch "Psych" episodes multiple times and still laugh at all of Shawn and Gus's a..."
then I'm sure I'd like Psych too!

I've watched it from the beginning, watch reruns on USA or ION and own them on DVD. I even managed to get my friend hooked on the show.
Shawn's father, a police officer (portrayed wonderfully by Corbin Bernsen), trained him from a young age to be super observant. ie Want pie for dessert, then close your eyes and tell me how many people in the diner are wearing hats. Shawn puts that training to good use calling in tips to the police hot line and collecting the rewards until a suspicious Detective Carlton Lassiter brings him in for questioning. Shawn decides to lie and claims psychic abilities and does an amazing job using quick observances as proof. He manages to pull in lifelong best friend Gus and convinces him to join him in a fake psychic detective agency called ... Psych.
Gus: You named your fake detective agency "Psych"? As in "gotcha"? Why didn't you just call it "Hey, we're fooling you and the police department; hope we don't make a mistake and somebody dies because of it."
Shawn: First of all, Gus, that name is entirely too long; it would never fit on the window. And secondly, the best way you convince people you're not lying to them is to tell them you are!
When most TV shows do an episode based on a movie, you know it's in trouble. With Psych those episodes are true homages to the originals. Both "Heeeere's Lassie" (The Shining) and "Last Night Gus" (The Hangover) are two of my favorites. Fabulous guest stars include George Takei, William Devane, James Brolin, Tim Curry, Judd Nelson, Freddi Prinze Jr, Cybil Sheppard as his mother, Ally Sheedy and many more.
This really is one of my favorite shows and I could go on forever, but I'll share another quote and leave it at that.
Carlton Lassiter: Spencer, you missed something. We found prints.
Shawn: Was he in a little red corvette?
Gus: Under the cherry moon?
Carlton Lassiter: *Finger* prints.

Sorry about being MIA. It's been a...rollercoaster lately, for lack of a better word. Told my husband I wanted a divorce, so it's been "fun". Blegh. I've basically just been hiding from the world since then.
I'll catch up, unless you all would like me to be replaced, that would be understandable.

If you want to continue, I'm fine with that. I just don't want you to put any more pressure on yourself than necessary.

Okay, so book choices!
Strong Heroines - While I was MIA, I read

5 stars.
Still a fantastic series. I'm as tired of vampires as I was when I read the first in the series, but the way Kagawa did them in the Blood of Eden series is just perfect.
Finished July 04, 2013.
Cover Love : Just finished

Definitely let down by this book. When I first read the synopsis forever ago, I was so stoked. It was slow moving, and it felt like absolutely nothing happened for the first 70% of the book. And even in the last 30%, it picked up the pace, but not by much. I don't think I'll be continuing with this series.
Read on July 10th, 2013
Angels and Demons, I'll probably be reading

Dystopian, I'll be reading

Review:
* Phew! I finally read this one!
* Quite philosophical-concepts like "doublethink" etc, whether truth is truth if nobody knows it
* Expected ending
* Repetitive too
* I liked this book a lot, the society seems more close to reality than the ones in any other dystopian I've read.

hehehe i've wanted to read this one for a long time!

* If only I had read this one a few years before now!
* There's NO sense to anything that happens in this book & I like that.
* But I've read books like this one, so wasn't too tickled.
* Still an enjoyable not-too-long read!

Review: I managed to stay spoiler free until starting and would hate to ruin the surprise for anyone else, so I'm going to stick to generalities.
I had high expectations for this book and Singh did not disappoint. The main couple were each emotionally damaged and still managed to make a believable connection. Their stories, past connections and struggles were heart wrenching. Much of the romance was carried out with the couple isolated from others, so there was little chance to visit with past couples. I actually think this worked well with the plot and added to the overall tone. Singh also managed to advance the Pure Psy, Silence and Netmind chaos arcs. Overall a wonderful book and my only regret is that book 13 hasn't already been published.

Really loved this book. Yes, it had some grammar issues/typos, but the story made up for it (at least for me). Loved the zombies, loved that the romance wasn't insta-love.

I'm new to the alien thing. I don't really see the attraction, mainly because I think of ET. That being said, this book was AWESOME. I really loved all the characters, even the minor ones. Can't wait to read the next in the series.

Review: The world Meyer created was fascinating. I love fairy tale retellings and the futuristic SF elements made this book something different from the usual fantasy fare. I did have a problem with (view spoiler) Overall I enjoyed the book and will most likely continue the series.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I see so many people raving about this book, and I'm not sure why. There were parts where I was seriously bored. The main character didn't really do much to suck me in, and I mainly kept reading for more appearances of Jay, the main character's best friend.
Overall, it wasn't a BAD book, but it wasn't a GREAT book.

"Very Charley" LOL. I've decided that the twist in my humor that loves bad puns, the one which enables me to watch "Psych" episodes multiple times and still laugh at all of Shawn and Gus's antics, must take over whenever I read this series. In fact, I was thinking recently about how much Charley reminds me of Shawn. They know life is hard and sometimes ugly, but deny that ugliness power by ignoring it in favor of a Peter Pannish determination to never completely grow up.
Carlyn Glad you enjoyed Blood Brothers! NR is another of my comfort authors. Your reviews date currently says 03/04/13. I put it as July 3 in the master list, but need to know for sure what to use.
Danie Hope everything is going better.
