I’ve had a busy week and haven’t had much reading time. However, when I was able to read, I was completely engrossed in this book.
”Sixty years ago the Red Lung virus decimated all of civilization. In a broken world, darkness reigns and every choice may be Allison Sekemoto’s last.”
Allie has to make a lot of very hard decisions, but every choice she makes is for survival. One night she is attacked and close to death when she is given another choice to make.
”Just know that, whatever you choose, you will die today. The manner of your death, however, is up to you.”
Being a survivor above all else, she becomes the one thing she hates most. Vampire. I really like Allie. She is strong, brave and trying to hold on to her humanity. I think the transition was well done. Allie struggles with the consequences of becoming a vampire and also embraces it when necessary. She is a monster, but she is deciding what type of monster she will be.
I’m really looking forward to reading the next book and learning more about the secondary characters in the story. I hear it’s even better :)
My non reading teen aged son loves this series. It really got him into reading. Glad you liked it.
I'm really not sure yet what I'll be reading. I have
tagged for other challenges, yet I keep putting it off. I have several others that I'm interested in too. I just can't decide tonight.

7/1/13 - Finished my Angels and Demons Shelf book

Despite my update comments, I did find some entertainment value in this book and it was an enjoyable read. I liked the premise of a girl able to see the death of others. Kind of cool, in a cursed way. Haven't really seen that power yet in YA or New Adult.
"With a simple touch, I know when someone will die. Whether they'll go painfully. If their life will end up stolen."Ember is quite a dark character - she always finds comfort in cemeteries, writes dark poetry, and even has a dark, hooded, imaginary friend. Ember stays away from human contact because seeing others' deaths is disturbing, to say the least. The she meets Asher and Cameron and is surprised to experience silence.
Ember's family is quite dysfunctional. Her father has disappeared and is presumed dead. Ember seems to have been implicated in his death/disappearance but no charges were ever laid. Ember's mother is a drunk and is taking some sort of mental health medications when she remembers. Her mother blames Ember for the death of her grandmother. Ember's brother Ian is mourning the death of his first love Alyssa and hides in the attic with his art and his muse.
This is a creepy book. There's lots of mysterious deaths, strange characters with tattooed X's on their skin, and lots of black raven feathers. Ember sees things that are pretty scary.
In any case, grab Ember while it's free!

This series continues to be exciting - lots of action, continuous tension, and added political entities to deal with. I thought it was interesting to see all about the Dhampire race and their secrets as Con reveals them in order to save Sin. I also liked the fact that their relationship made them both face hard truths about themselves and grow a lot. The side plot with Luc and Kar was really exciting as well :) This is really a fun series!
I finished my book for "Cover Love" shelf....Beautiful Darkness, kami garcia...07.02 4*s...at first I was rather bored w/the drama but as the books moves thru the many twists & turns I grew to like it more & more....definitely planning to read the next book in the series....I really do think my fav character in this book would have to be Link...

Good read. It wasn't a complete YA book, but it had that whole teenager (even though they weren't teens) angst thing going on. I liked the book...just wasn't really in the mood to read it or any book for that matter. Would recommend it and I have already purchased the second book in the series.

Woohoo! After this week we'll have 3 in a row. Of course I think most of the other teams also have 3 if not 4 in a row too :)I'm a little over halfway with my book, should be done by Friday. Tomorrow is a holiday so I don't know how much reading I'll get done. I'm kind of struggling this week. I'm so easily distracted lately...
I finished my book for the "Angels & Demons" shelf...Ever After by Kim Harrison...07.03 4*s...there is a reason why this has quickly become one of my all time favorite authors & a favorite series...I absolutely love all of the characters in this series...this book did not disappoint there were somethings that happened that made me sad but there were also some things that happened to make me laugh....& the ending was very subtle definitely leaving you begging for more...

It was really more like 3.5 stars.
Review:
This was another good addition to the series, but not my favorite. It could have been, I was looking forward to reading about Caliane, but was pretty disappointed with that part. Maybe she will come back to it later.
It was basically a bunch of sex scenes, a ton of "You are mine" between the two of them, and a little bit of action. Don't get me wrong, Nalini Singh is a wonderful writer, and I still enjoyed the book but I'm ready for a new couple LOL. The secondary characters are just as intriguing, if not more, as Raphael and Elena.
Oh, I also love the fact that she is a Made Angel. That was really well done on the author's part. It's nice to read her learning how to use her wings and the fact that she wasn't automatically uber awesome. My favorite thing about Elena though, is her scent tracking. The way she breaks down the scent of everyone to identify them is pretty cool!

For the Dystopian Shelf, I will be reading:
I've only read one dystopian series. Not really sure what to expect. It was hard deciding on one. They all appear to be YA.
JenniJenni, It is definitely a genre that is dominated with YA. The series that I'm reading is for adults though, if you decide to change it up. It's very good!!
7/7/13 Finished my Dystopian Shelf read -
- 3.5 starsThis is the follow up book to Breathe, the story of a world that now has depleted oxygen. People live in Domed cities and the Premiums(the rich) get more oxygen than the auxilliaries (regular folk). The Ministry is quite zealous for the eradication of any type of resistance.
There's a huge cast of characters and the story is told in each character's first person point of view. While that could be interesting, it did lessen my enjoyment of the book since I had to continually flip back to remember who was talking.
A lot of hairy situations leading up to the very exciting last third of the book where the action was crazy!
I think I'm going to go with Mistborn: The Final Empire - I'm really not in a YA mood and my husband has read this one twice, so it must be pretty good!

Oh boy, I love this series! This was my favorite one yet. Who would have thought that a drug addicted witch, a couple of street thugs and some ghosties would make such a great series? It's not like I can relate to them on that level, but I sure feel like I'm right there with them.
As usual, Chess is assigned a case that puts her right in the middle of the two drug lords. She has to figure out who is summoning the ghost, murdering people, and stop them without getting herself killed. That's the easy part.
How do you love someone when you feel so unworthy of being loved yourself? If you are Chess, you take a bunch of drugs and live in a paranoid, self-destructive state until you sabotage the one thing that matters most to you. I was so angry at her and heartbroken along with her that I couldn't concentrate at work today! And that's how this book got on my favorites shelf lol.

I'm ready to dive into the next one, but that will have to wait for now. I'm really curious how things will be handled now between the two turfs.
*If you have not started this series, I strongly recommend that you do. It's worth it.

Mistborn: The Final Empire

This is a FANTASTIC beginning to a series - fantasy set in a world that is covered in ash, where the sun is red and the plants are brown, where magic follows very specific rules (physics-based, which my engineer husband loves), and the skaa are completely enslaved by the nobility. Half-breeds are not supposed to exist, but the few that do are hunted down. Vin, a sixteen year old half-breed thief is taken in by a crew led by the charismatic Kell, who quickly teaches her that she is Mistborn, able to use all the types of Allomancy. As they begin to foment a rebellion in the capital city, intrigue and politics swirl as there are many more layers to what is going on than first meets the eye.
This is a fabulous book - so many layers and wonderful world-building :) I loved the fact that all the way until the end I was still being surprised by what happened next and that it had a definite ending while still setting up for sequels.

I read City of Bones by Cassandra Clare...07.11.2013 4*s...this was a re-read for me since it had been awhile since I had read it but Im glad I did. There were parts that I had completely forgot about it. Clare & Jace made a great pair but you dont find out the true meaning of their relationship until the book is almost at the end. But Im thinking that there be more ill-fated twists in the next book. Would like to the see the movie but not sure if that will happen as that is not a movie Hubby would like for certain.
