We certainly are reading some good books for this one.

@Regina - I just discovered that my library has the Jane Yellowrock series as ebooks to check out. I plan on starting that series. It looks really interesting.
And I've heard about Cut&Run. Interested to hear what you think.

I have one book I am finishing up today before I can get started on my book. So excited!

I am listening to the audio of the Jane Yellowrock and it is well done. It isn't the type of UF that blows me away, but it is really enjoyable. I heard the first Cut & Run is slow, but I am looking forward to getting in to the series.

I'm always interested in what people think who listen to audiobooks. I have never been able to get into it, but I know several people here on GR who love it. And my mom loves audiobooks.

Audiobooks differ so much -- it may have been the story or the narrator. :) But I am biased!

I also haven't gotten into audiobooks...yet! I've heard a good one, but it was a little slow (I tend to read faster), and don't have the blocks of time to listen...still hoping to find the one that will change my mind!

Which one did you listen to? I do read faster, definitely.

I listen when I am exercising, cleaning, folding clothes, emptying the dishwasher, driving a car, and doing admin work at work. When I am sick and too sick to read I listen and occasionally when I have trouble sleeping but want to go to sleep, I listen and close my eyes and then I will fall asleep. ;) I find it is a way to keep reading.

I listened to Strange Brew and Leviathon...whoohoo! My count is two, not one! I'd forgotten that. I think all those activities would be better with a book, too, but it still hasn't clicked for me. Boohoo.

Strange Brew was quite good (short story collection) so I think it may be that I'm more of a visual person...see the words and remember, but when just listening, I'm not fully focused.

Hmm, I haven't listened to those. But yay for it being two! LOL. :)

I will think of my best recs for audio -- romance, historical, UF, PNR, thriller, and throw them out there.

In my opinion, fantasy and sci fi are hard to listen to as they tend to be more detailed.

Judithe, that's my problem as well. I've discovered that all my learning challenges in school were actually Listening problems. I don't form a mental picture when someone tells me something. I have to see it or do it in order for the mental picture to form. But even just reading some things won't work.
But I keep thinking I will try audio books again and one will click with me.

So get that...hated the classes where teachers would just stand there and talk. Read the material, and I was fine. Listening...copious notes and fine, but just listening...well, no matter how close I thought I was paying attention, it was soon gone...

It sounds like you and I have our mission cut out for us! LOL! Fingers crossed on finding one to help "reset" that framework.

Thoughts:

The end of Widow's Web threw me...and I was hoping that almost last page development would be resolved in the next...well, not yet, but looking positive.

Knowing others are starting this series, I'm reluctant to say too much...so many exciting things ahead for you! So, I'll just say, the regulars are there, and shining. Gin is her usual kick-ass self, and when somebody messes with her "family", well, she messes them up. Lots of action, fun twists, and great set-up for the series' continuation. Hooray! Very happy to know I have two more, at least, to look forward to (pre-ordered as well)!

Have started my Free Space read (which I forgot to state is on the June New releases page, and surely on the bookshelf by now!). Would be in absolute bliss if I didn't still have dinner dishes in the sink and a translation proofing to finish up by 10 a.m. tomorrow. AGH! Needing a time out from RL, of else demand books to be released just before my day off....

Week 1: Assassins

Review:
This installment of the series was such an emotional rollercoaster ride. Gin tries to take a vacation and ends up battling a vampire with elemental powers. All the usual people are with her and she resolves some longstanding issues. I was a mess by the end!

Leslie, the hardest thing will be to write a review...I have studiously AVOIDED any discussion, hints, etc cause I don't want it to be spoiled for me (and want to do the same for others...). Comments so far, it's fantastically gooooooooooooooood! And that will probably be my review. Eep! So glad I didn't read the teaser chapters until I had them attached to the whole book.

I tend to proofread translations, because I'm too nitpicky and indecisive when I'm the lead on a translation project. The projects run the gamut, newspaper articles, research abstracts in a variety of fields, letters, legal forms, and today's, and announcement article related to astronomical research results (which is one of my faves!). I do Japanese to English...and it's my hobby/other job. Main job is teacher of English (language, not literature). Fun and intellectually stimulating...usually!

Yes, writing the review will be hard, but I'm okay with spoilers, Judithe. I just want to be reading it right now and it upsets me that I'm not. But I made the decision and I'm trying to stick by it!! But I like the review - it's fantastically good!

And I was curious because my son just graduated from college and majored in Greek and Roman Studies with a concentration in Latin. He worked for a professor in school translating latin documents and his senior thesis was a translation of the Latin Mass. He loves to translate. It's a part time job for him now as well.
