Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome, Ladies!

Funny coinkydink. I'm listening to Steel's Edge, but actually should'a started with Fate's Edge b/c I haven't read it yet. But, I grabbed the wrong one. Oh well, I'm really enjoying it (at normal speed) and will just grab #3 when I'm done.

message 603: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Lol!! That is a funny conicidence. I am about 70% in. The narration is fabulous. I am not sold on the romance. But I am loving the world.

message 604: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments :D I love the narration also. The world is my favorite part of this series. The Weird, The Edge ... just great! I'm just 15% into mine, but loving it. No romance yet. I'm really liking the heroine.

message 605: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I like her too. I also like the "gang". I don't want to spoil it for you. :)

message 606: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Duh. That was dumb. Lol. That is what I get for multi taskig! Within the past few posts I somehow forgot we are listening to different ones. Sorry!

message 607: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I love that series! And I agree, the worldbuilding is just amazing. It does help to start with #1, because then the romance makes more sense in the second book.

message 608: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I never really connected with that series, read the first 2, own the 3rd. Just felt it was more a fantasy epic than pnr/uf.

And I'm somehow past fantasy epics, read lots of them in my younger days but I guess I'm all fantasied out. LOL. Though saying that I do enjoy Anne McCaffery ;)

message 609: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments That's funny Sandra. Because one weakness for me with this series is that the romance seems so orchestrated and out of place. I was luke warm on the first two because of how the romance was done and I am having the same issue with this one. But I love the fantasy aspect and the characters.

Steph I am now on 2x speed! Lol.

message 610: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I agree; the romance just didn't work for me, which is why I related it to Fantasy instead.

message 611: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I finished my supernatural book. I will post my review soon.

Shelf: Supernatural

Rating: ★★★ (3 stars)
Book: Fate's Edge by Ilona Andrews
Fate's Edge (The Edge, #3) by Ilona Andrews
Read: 8/1/13
Rating: 3 stars

Review:
I hate to say this. I really really hate to think this -- but this series may just not be for me. I love the Kate Daniels series; I have enjoyed the novellas Ilona Andrews puts out written in other worlds, but I cannot get into this series. I think it is the romance. I like romance, but I am usually not a fan of really predictable or cliched romance stories -- and I felt like that was what the romance amounted to in this book. I also felt like a part of the book dragged, slighlty after the midway point. I listened to the audio of this book and while I loved the narration but due to the dragging element of the midway point and my irritation at the romance, I ended up speeding up the speed on the narration.

But before you hate me - -I did like stuff about this book. I loved the characters, I liked the gang that had gathered together to go on a quest. I love the world building and the fantasy element.

LOL! No worries. ;)

How's 2x working out?

message 614: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Perfect! It helped me get it done so I can start on my next bingo book - I bet your husband has read it/listened to it:

14 by Peter Clines

message 615: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Yay! :D

Actually he hasn't. I will have to tell him about it - sounds like something we'd both enjoy.

message 616: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Thanks for the review, Regina! I admit to loving this series but I do agree that this book had some moments that dragged. This was my least favorite of the 3.

message 617: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments At the end of this book (or somewhere in the middle) I remembered why I hadn't read on in this series -- I read the first two on release dates. So now I know. :) That is why I love Bingo, it forces me to read stuff lingering on my TBR.

message 618: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments That is so true, Regina!!

Judithe | 6566 comments Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews
Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews
Shelf 9: 7/31/13
Date finished:
Rating: ★★★★★
Thoughts:

First off, I must say that I love this series, and can never get enough of Kate and Curran. If you haven't started, please do.

I don't want to spoil anything, which makes this a hard review to write! But, basically, Curran and crew need to go to Europe. Their payment is something very necessary to save young shifters, and even though they know it's a trap of some sort, they just can't turn it down. So, Kate, Curran and a number of my favorite characters take a trip across the Atlantic.

The dialog is fantastic, the action is non-stop, and there are many suspenseful moments. A hard book to put down, and I was very happy that timing worked so I hardly had to!

And the countdown to Magic Rises starts...

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Time Travel:

Would get us 5 in a row if we finish aliens and time travel -- and nobody else wins with time travel so we would have all week to finish this!

Sexy:

Would get us 4 in a row if we finish aliens
Would get us 3 in a row if we finish angels and demons

Wishlist:

Would get us 3 in a row if we finish angels and demons
Would get us 3 in a row if we finish supernatural

If sexy is called and we get the 4 in a row (see above how), then the following week both time travel and freebie would be winners for us. Freebie would be a race to finish.

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments Wow I really need to read this weekend. More then half way finished my aliens book.

message 624: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Thanks for the update Regina!! We are right in the middle of it!! So keep reading Team!!

Judithe - I appreciate how hard it was to write your review. I am so excited to read this. I very rarely get books as soon as they come out, even if it's a series I like. But I got this one immediately because I'm so obsessed with Kate and Curran and the world Ilona Andrews created.

message 625: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments I finished my aliens book. I will be back later to post review. I don't know why I waited so long to read this book!!!!!

message 626: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments My daughter loves that series and the movie.

message 627: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments I know I will be reading the other books. I saw this movie but I never heard anything about the rest being made into movies.

message 628: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Are you talking about I am Number 4? I saw that movie and really liked it.
Great job, Monica!!

message 629: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments Yes Leslie I am talking about I am Number 4. I loved the movie and that is why I bought the book. Now I just need look into the other books.

Week Number 7: Aliens
I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1) by Pittacus Lore
I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore
Date Finished: 8/2/13
Rating: *****
Review:

Another awesome book. I have had this book since the movie came out. I have put off reading it because of how thick it was. I have to remember to just pick up the book no matter the size.

I am Number 4 is about the Lorien people from outer-space. Number 4 is on the run along with 5 others. When one of them dies a mark appears on the others ankles. They can only be killed in order unless they meet up then the charm is broken. Number 4 is part of the Garde.

Number 4 is named John Smith and can change if he needs to run because of detection. John has powers that will come to fruition as he grows. As the powers start to appear he has to learn how to use them and handle them. He has to lie all the humans he meets. John Smith has a Cepan or Keeper who's name is Henri.

John does the things that most normal humans do like go to school. He doesn't play sports because of his powers. So he has to pretend that he has asthma. When John and Henri move to Paradise Ohio, John meets a girl named Sarah. This is when his first legacy decides to appear.

I found myself really enjoying the way the book was written and just kept me wrapped up in the story line. I could tell you all about this book but then I will be here forever and you won't have the chance to read this book for yourself.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Week 9: Supernatural
Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs
8/2/13 ****1/2 stars
Review
Loved this book except for the ending which is what dropped the rating by 1/2 a star. The story was tightly drawn and the action strong throughout the book. I loved learning more about the Fae world and they are scary! And the conclusion to the Samuel/Adam triangle was resolved in a very reasonable way. Overall , I loved this book - it was an emotional rollercoaster in some places but it definitely showed us Adam's heart and love for Mercy.

message 632: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments So what do you all hope is called this week? I hope it is sexy and wishlist so we can keep playing. :)

Have you seen the number of posts by other teams? We must be a chatty group! LOL.

message 633: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I love being on chatty teams!! I've been on others where there is hardly any conversation and it's just not fun.
And I am happy with sexy or wishlist! I'm trying to figure out now what my time travel book would be.

message 634: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments I would love it to keep going a couple more weeks...then I could be more chatty, too! (Been only reading, not posting much 'cause RL is being a bear...but almost (uni) summer vacation!!)

message 635: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Yea for your summer vacation, Judithe! Ours is almost over. School starts in 2 weeks (for my 3 of 4 that are in college). They are all very excited as everyone is in a new place this year. Kind of weird!

message 636: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments That must be weird Leslie. This is the first year all the kids will be in the same school district and our one and only year of that. Kdg through 8th is one school district. My oldest is starting 8th grade and my youngest (finally!) is starting Kdg. It will never happen again. School starts for us on 8/26.

message 637: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments It was always so nice when they were all together! Their elementary/middle school in New Orleans also ran K - 8th so they were together for quite awhile. But then the two oldest went to two different high schools. When Katrina hit and we evacuated to Shreveport, there was only one Catholic high school, so they were all ended up going there. But now my two oldest have graduated from college and my son starts Law School. My third child has transferred to a different college in New Orleans and my youngest is starting her freshman year in college. So it's all new again! It just keeps going with kids, even as they get older!

message 638: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Well it is still two different schools, just the same district! :D I know it is just around the corner, but I can't imagine college.

message 639: by Regina (last edited Aug 03, 2013 12:55PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments so for time travel there are some good ones:

Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon (and all in this series -- but they are long)
The Dark Highlander (Highlander, #5) by Karen Marie Moning (all of this series, but I only recommend reading 4-7 -- those are good and you don't need to read 1-3 -- 1 and 2 are bad, and 3 is just okay - -4-7 is where the series/story arc begins and they are really good)

I am going to read Redshirts by John Scalzi if time travel is shown.

I am guessing wishlist and sexy will be easy.

If it is wishlist I will read Shooting Scars (The Artists Trilogy, #2) by Karina Halle

If it is sexy I will read Broken by Megan Hart

Any other shelf has another team winning -- so I won't read anything for other shelves unless it seems by next Saturday that team isn't going to make it.

message 640: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I had the same thought about time travel - if called I will read The Dark Highlander (Highlander, #5) by Karen Marie Moning which is a re-read for me. I'm one of the few people who actually like 1-3 in this series, but I do understand why people say you can skip them.

For Sexy I will be reading Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning and for Wishlist I will be reading Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee

I'm not even thinking about the other shelves yet.

message 641: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments To be fair Iiked #3 but I know many people didn't. :)

Dark is one of my all time favorites.

message 642: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments I was looking last night for a possible time travel book. I did see the Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon but I don't have that book. I did find Doomsday Book (Oxford Time Travel, #1) by Connie Willis and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, #1) by Douglas Adams . I own both of them. Going to read.

message 643: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I have doomsday too but I think it may be long. So the reason I am staying away. I do want to read it.

message 644: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments I think doomsday is long too. Actually both are long.

message 645: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

message 648: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Have a short list of 4 books...will post once I've started reading one of them!

message 649: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Well, since we can't win, I will leave it up to team members whether they want to read or not.

message 650: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Actually, they only have 2 of the stamps they need. I don't know how many books they're waiting for, but it is possible (not likely) that they won't all finish all the books by Sunday...
