And the winner is...... Stranded by Pepper Pace!!

"Oceans Delano and Marshall Cohen could not be any different. She is a shy Jamaican born woman returning to the states after her father's death. Marshall Cohen is a privileged young business man traveling out of the country to engage in 'sketchy' business dealings for his boss. When their small plane crashes, the two lone survivors are forced to depend on each other and in the process they learn to face their fears and to accept their differences. Oceans and Marshall embark on a journey of courage, love, passion and sometimes hate."

"This multicultural romance is intended for mature audiences due to graphic descriptions and frank language."

Ok everybody. I read this one, and thought it was great. I'll wait for others to post before I start getting specific with my comments.

Ok. Unless I absolutely had to, I don't think I could get on one of this little planes. Not without some anxiety medication first or something, LOL!

Connie | 761 comments I'm excited! To have a group discussion will be nice! iLo e being able to talk about specific books. I won't be able to start the book until next weekend. I have a couple of books that I HAVE to read before they are due back at the library. Has anyone read a Beautiful Disaster?

That's great Connie! I'm glad you're excited and can't wait for you to be able to discuss Stranded. I haven't read Beautiful Disaster yet, but I hope to. Don't forget, you can always start a Buddy Read thread, or just a regular thread if you'd like- some books are so good that you just have to talk about them!

Carla (carlajane) | 83 comments Connie, do you mean by Jamie McGuire? If so Yes I've read it and really liked it. I'm reading Walking Disaster now.

Aleta Lewis-brown | 4 comments Loved, Loved this book. It made me laugh it made me cry. My emotions were Lao over the place. But I'm a sucker for a pepper pace book. She's absolutely amazing at creating characters that finds there way into your heart.

Michelle, I was thinking the exact same thing. Those smaller planes seem dangerous!

Fashionista (fashionista99) | 439 comments I've already read this book too - awhile back. Can't wait to start chatting about it; it's great. It's Survivor meets History meets Erotica! ;-)
I just love Pepper' s books!

Connie | 761 comments I've never started a Buddy Thread or anything like that. I don't know how. I just usually look at other people's, and may or may not comment.

I kept thinking of that Tom Hanks movie. Of course I can't think of the name now for the life of me. The whole (view spoiler)

Tamekia | 87 comments There is another Beautiful Disaster by Francette Phal- it is an intense IR read ....it is also called The Bet and part two is called Redemption....both amazing stories- lots of angst, action and drama:)

Ladyamelia | 173 comments ✿Michelle✿ wrote: "What do you guys think of Marshall? Oceans? What did you think of them as a couple?"

I really enjoyed this book. I didn't expect the heavy subject matter but it added to the overall story and the connection b/w the H and h, IMO.

As far as Marshall, he was a sweetheart. I understood why he was upset with Oceans during the second half of the book, but I also understood Oceans' point of view. I'll wait until more people have finished to post more of my thoughts - I don't want to spoil the story.

I thought the subject matter got a little heavy too! About a 1/3 into the story, I was like "whoa!"

message 20: by Ren (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ren | 291 comments To be honest, I didn't feel the Marshall and Oceans connected fully until the pivotal moment. It made them stronger as a couple.

I was so mad with Oceans though. I just stopped reading and walked away for 10 minutes before coming back to read. LOL Although I did understand her point of view.

Oceans irked me at times too, LOL! Talk about a messed up situation, on how she came to be on that plane! Here they were stranded. The first thing I would've been worried about would've been wild animals, mother nature, and no books and candy, LOL!

I completely agree with your comment about their connection!

Michelle Gilmore | 3396 comments Mod
I think because of their situation, their connection started out a little forced- as if they'd never speak to each other, or roll in the circles in other situations. But we knew "it" was bound to happen.

message 24: by Vanae (last edited Jun 04, 2013 01:05PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Vanae | 163 comments Great story, read it twice.

After a while I wanted to hurt Marshall myself, but I see that 72 day walk did his butt some good. A good long walk will do the mind some good, and Marshall came back in a better head space. I think my favorite part came in the end, when they were rescued, but continued on un-fazed as if they needed to clean up before they left...smile. I enjoyed that the relationship was based on friendship first and not the dog in heat method that so many relationships seem to be based on.
The characters earned each other's love, and that was refreshing for me. A man earning a woman….wow… now how old school is that (it should be the norm).

message 25: by Ren (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ren | 291 comments No book or Candy? Hahaha Nightmare!!

My favorite part was towards the end as well. The intimacy of them sleeping together....it was beautiful.

I enjoyed the relationship too and that is something I appreciate about Pepper Pace's novels. The Hero and Heroine have some form of friendship before they get intimate. In most cases it is hard to find that in IR novels.

That part was sooo sweet, I got a kick out of the old couples reaction to the sight as well.

Mz. Kim (ktluvs2read) | 114 comments I haave been looking at a lot of Pepper Pace's books so reading it as part of the discussion was right up my alley. I like the book as a whole/ Like most Iexpected it to be a story of two people stuck in paradise. You know similar to the Bue Lagoon with a little twist. I think it took me a minute to get use to Marshall. He did not come across as a hero and I has to fall in love with him. With this being said I was truly side swiped by some of the events. The story got serious real quick. I can appreciate the subject matter, but if I remember correctly the preview mentioned biggotry and I never saw that in this tale.

Vanae | 163 comments You know your right, the love for Marshall was not immediate. I think he won me over with his abilily to build stuff, I would hate to be stranded with a man that didnt know how to do anything. Men with a trade or know how to work with their hands, just got some extra sexy points....smile...LOL.

message 29: by Ren (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ren | 291 comments In my opinion I appreciated Marshall more. I don't believe it was realistic that Oceans knew so many things. I can understand that she knew certain things but in my opinion she knew too much of everything.

I liked that Marshall was a mix of both. He knew certain things but other things he had to work hard at. Like getting a fire going and catching fish took him the entire night to figure out. He learned to build and make small stuff then gradually went on to bigger things. Even his journey around the the Island was a lesson learned for him. He matured a lot over time and learned how to survive on the island through experience and Oceans. Oceans just knew all there was to know. It actually annoyed me, she was like super woman....lol all that was left for her to do was fly.

I honestly didn't start liking her until Marshall came to the end of his journey.

I agree with you, Ren. I loved the scene where the older couple discovered them sleeping with their baby girl ;-)

Fashionista (fashionista99) | 439 comments Another favorite part was when Marshall came back for his journey to find Oceans obviously pregnant. He was such a sweetheart ;-)

The pregnancy through me for a loop, the book described a scene so graphic and gory that one could only believe that the pregnancy was ended. I was left wondering what actually did happen in the forest.

Did you happen to catch what inspired Marshall to name the baby Skye?

Nicky | 5 comments I thought this was a good book too. However, I am not a fan of books with mostly only two people..

I thinks he name the baby skye because on a Caribbean island apart from the sea what do you mostly see? The sky lol. My opinion.

I am glad he realized that he was crazy in love with her before he found her and found out that she was still pregnant. If not I would have just thought he was just in love with the idea of having a baby.

What did everyone think of the shipwrecked slave ship being on the other side of the island?

message 39: by Mz. (new) - rated it 3 stars

Mz. Kim (ktluvs2read) | 114 comments I thought it was an interesting addition...there are not . Usually abandoned slave shops in the romance novels I read.. I thought it was interesting that Marshall mentioned that had the slave master freed the slave they would not be alone...I do not think I would have wanted to see it I am also a Black woman who attempts to connect with my culture but the ship was a little much I was worried what molds or allergies might be on the ship

I was thinking about mold and stuff too, LOL! But Marshall did make a good point about not being alone if someone would've thought to free the slaves from the lower deck. That was just sad.

Ren | 291 comments I honestly thought I was the only one thinking either Marshall or Oceans would get sick searching that ship. I screaming at them for not thinking of the dangers especially Oceans knowing she is pregnant taking the chance.

I read this early this morning. I liked it a lot. The survival aspects were very realistic. I liked that they were friends first and fell in love over time. The dilemma they faced was very painful to read. I'm glad it worked out in the end.
