Choose two of the following options as we revisit my favourite summer, 1994, and remember what made it so great!

Option 1: Geography
Staycations can be fun! Read a book that is set in the city, state, province, region, or whatever defines where you live. In most cases, this should be more specific than a country, unless you live in a really small country.

Option 2: Entertainment
In June, The Lion King debuted in theatres and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was released on VHS. Read a book with "lion", "king", "ace", or "pet" found intact in the title, subtitle, series title, or author's name.

Option 3: History
OJ Simpson's famous car chase has gone down in history. Read a book with the genre "legal thriller" on its main page.

Option 4: Arts & Literature
I read as many Nancy Drew books as I could get my hands on. Read a book with the genre "mystery" on its main page.

Option 5: Science & Nature
My family spent a lot of time camping in the woods - no electricity! Read a book with a picture of the outdoors on the cover. For example:
Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter The Accidental Bestseller by Wendy Wax Brava, Valentine by Adriana Trigiani The Log from the Sea of Cortez by John Steinbeck The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman Icy Sparks by Gwyn Hyman Rubio Hemingway's Girl by Erika Robuck Sierra Falls (Sierra Falls, #1) by Veronica Wolff

Option 6: Sports & Leisure
On summer vacation, you'd find me swimming at the town pool or chasing the ice cream truck. Read a book with a body of water or a sweet & delicious food item on the cover. For example:
One Good Dog by Susan Wilson Hidden Summit (Virgin River, #17) by Robyn Carr Blackberry Summer (Hope's Crossing #1) by RaeAnne Thayne Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sivec Sprinkle with Murder (A Cupcake Bakery Mystery, #1) by Jenn McKinlay

Required: State which options you used when you post. If using a cover option, include the cover in your post.

does this work for option 6 The Ward by Jordana Frankel

Jen (jayebee) | 251 comments NickiUK wrote: "Would you accept the UK as a 'small country' please?"

Because there are so many books set in the UK, it doesn't need the small country designation. You may use the entire region of England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland - whichever applies to you - if necessary

Also see the task help for Option B of Lois's task in the winter challenge, which was kind of what I was going for with that option. At the end of the day, if it feels local to you, then it is.

Perfect. Sounds right up my alley, too.

Bec (foreverfnm) | 132 comments Uh... I live in Adelaide, South Australia, and I've found a couple of books that are listed as having Adelaide as the setting - but I can't get hold of them, not even using interlibrary loan.

Weirdly, The King's Speech says it is set here on the book page, but I don't think it is - rather a character comes from Adelaide.

Could I read a book from Australia - lots are set in Queensland, Victoria or NSW?

Nicki (luluminstrel) | 279 comments Thanks! I see what you're trying to get us to do :) Finding a book set in my little town or even county would be hard or impossible, but one set in my nearest city (Cambridge) should be feasible.

Oh, good! I really didn't want to give anyone a hard time with it! I don't know what type of books you're into, but two really good ones set in Cambridge, off the top of my head:
The Bellwether Revivals
Case Histories

Vicky (librovert) | 240 comments Just to clarify for Option 2 does it need to be the world itself or can it be something like Space or Peter?

Bec - what abt Colin thiele for south Australia - I think he has some set there...

message 28: by Bec (new)

Bec (foreverfnm) | 132 comments Dee, most of Colin Thiele books are marked 'childrens' and less than 300 pages. The ones that are not marked childrens, I cannot get my hot little hands on. Thanks for the suggestion though - it brought back memories of reading storm boy as a kid, which I loved.
