Agree. Only 40 pages in but liking it so far. :)
I started Dark Tower VI, Song of Susannah today. Then as soon as that one is finished it'll be time for Finders Keepers!
Kandice wrote: "I do! I haven't read it yet because my children (they're all adults or almost!) are working their way through it first. We all agreed that the MR series got a bit environmentally preachy after book..."
The new one that just came out I have not read yet. I'm going to give it to my daughter as a graduation gift and then will read it. I agree with you about the environmental aspect of it since they went to Antarctica, but the last couple of books were much better than the middle ones. This is a series that my whole family has enjoyed as well.

Radiant Angel by Nelson Demille is avaialble for download today so I'm reading that. I'm thinking about diving into the Child 44 trilogy before Finders Keepers comes out.
I finished Radiant Angel and was kinda underwhelmed. The Zero Hour had a similar premise - a bomb in lower Manhattan - and it was a much better novel.
And now I'm going to start The Girl on the Train. I really hesitated with this one because the responses seem so polarized. But I finally gave in to curiosity.

Girl on the train: You have to stay with it :æ: - I think the very final part of the story makes it all worthwhile, even though the first part is off putting.
Here's what I'm working onThe Recognitions by Gaddis
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Eggers
Giles Goat-Boy by Barth
A Naked Singularity by Sergio De La Pava
Thank You for Smoking by Buckley
Sorry about no links as I'm on my phone. Feel free to comment away.
I remember looking up Giles goat-boy after one of your updates. In between all of the five-stars were two "acks", one "wtf" and a couple of "this author is stupid"s. How are you liking it?
Nick wrote: Girl on the train: You have to stay with it :æ: - I think the very final part of the story makes it all worthwhile, even though the first part is off putting. I had the exact opposite feeling as Nick. I loved the beginning and narrative style, but felt the ending was a bit of a cop-out. Still an amazing book, I mean look at King's endings, so I hope you like it :ae.

Thank You for Smoking was great fun. I listened to it though so...
I am currently reading The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. It's a horror classic! Have any of you checked out the Penguin Horror Series with the brilliant Guillermo del Toro as editor? It's a series of classic horror stories that are selected by him as "favorites" and feature really cool cover art. I'm a sucker for neat horror collectables, especially in gothic style, so I bought a few.
Rhian wrote: "I started reading the running man, this is one I've never fancied but so far so good"I loved it, and it's eerie how prescient King was. There was NO reality t.v. when he wrote it.
@Kandice I've only just got started on it but already been thinking about just how long ago he wrote it

Actually you're right. the beginning was good, and the ending, it was the middle that made me want to throw the book under that train. BTW the audio book was very good if only for the distinct voices of the women who read the narrative.
Heading off on vacation with an iPad full of books including: Desperation (a reread of a book I really disliked), B is for Beer, Thank You For Smoking, Endless Night, Don't Tell Presley. I'll also picked up the new King book as soon as it's available.

Be safe and keep us posted. ;)

WILL DO!! Not sure of the order of the read... I guess it may have to do with the turbulence on the way. (hey... there's a name of a stephen king book... TURBULENCE.)
I'm contemplating "reading" audiobook of The Stand. I read it when it first came out in the late 70's. It has always stuck with me, but lately all these strange coincidences have brought it up in my mind- pointed me to it. Conversations, song lyrics, a billboard, another book I'm reading, an email... it's kinda spooky. I'm now a little obsessed, and I don't think it'll stop until I actually do it.

Let me know if you decide to in the near future. Maybe we could discuss as we go along - there's a Stand thread around here somewhere...I have not read the Dark Tower series so reference to that may be lost on me. However, it might inspire me to pick those up.

Sounds awesome - enjoy Italy - looking forward to discussing Finders Keepers.

Me too.
Bruce wrote: "Currently re-reading Dune. Maybe I'll finally read all of the sequels once my stuff is unpacked."Dune is such an immersive read. I loved the rest of the series written by Frank, but not the installments written by his son.

Yeah, I'd only read Frank's sequels as well. I have zero interest in a million prequels and interquels.
I read Predator One and Cycle of the Werewolf. I timed it pretty good so that this morning I could start Finders Keepers.
Bruce wrote: "Burning my way through Dune Messiah at the moment. I love it about as much as I do the first one."Me too! I'm glad you are enjoying it.
Finished the first chapter of The Black Echo. This isn't my first Michael Connelly (what a mellifluous name!) so I figured I would like it.
In the last weeks I've finished, The Anubis Gates, Children of Dune, The Carpet People and now I'm reading Trespassers, a nice, adventurous story, written with a bit of humour that I like.
Currently giving Insomnia, by SK, another shot. Also going to try finishing A Breath of Snow and Ashes, by Diana Gabaldon. Finished Finders Keepers in two days :)
Cody wrote: "Currently giving Insomnia, by SK, another shot. Also going to try finishing A Breath of Snow and Ashes, by Diana Gabaldon. Finished Finders Keepers in two days :)"I actually liked Insomnia. It was a little long-winded, but I thought the premise and the characters were interesting.
Currently reading "See Them Run" by Green, "Unwholly" by Shusterman, "The Mask" by Koontz (for a buddy read). About 20% into each but I have a feeling Unwholly will win out and finish first.
Just finished a couple of books including DESPERATION. I'll have a review as soon as I collect my thoughts. Still didn't like it, but it is a little better than I remember. Also finished and reviewed THAT'S WHAT WOMEN DO, A Feminist Manifesto. My review is posted at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....
What's a nice guy like me doing reading a feminist manifesto? Check out my review and see for yourself, either on goodreads or the shorter version on amazon.
