Another suggestion (not to load you up with books, but...) Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice is also excellent!

I'm, only at beginning, but I like this 'old style' Crime novel by Dashiell Hammett. I've never read 'Farewell My Lovely', it's on my to be read list.
But this is by Raymond Chandler, even if on the screen it has always the face of Humphrey Bogart.

Aditya Finished Defending Jacob Defending Jacob by William Landay a good book that could have been even better if not for a rushed ending.

I think that one is a hidden gem that doesn't get much recognition amongst McCammon's work.

It's one that I've been wanting read for a very long time. But, it never has become available on Kindle. So, I picked up a paperback copy and I'm reading it the old fashioned way. Lol.

H Hunt | 98 comments @Ken, that's the only way I read, I'm a renaissance chic & the act of reading is very important & personal to me. I have to hold an actual book, reading is like my church...
Ghost Story is a helluva good tale, a real page turner. Straub did a killer job with catching your attention & keeping it, the creep factor scores as well

H, I'm with you on reading actual books. I have read only one ebook because I wanted to borrow my mother's copy of Desperation for the group read and she had it on her kindle. Though I was very thankful to have been able to read it, I was glad to get back to my books.

message 1284: by H (new)

H Hunt | 98 comments @Kathryn, I know right? I get all the benefits with e-readers but for me it has to be an actual book. The weight of it, the smell, it's "there'ness", :) difficult to explain. Especially old books, so cool. I recently bought a batch of old books & found they were from a high school that closed in 1964, the books still had cards in the back. That's 50 yrs, kinda blew my mind a bit...

message 1285: by B (new)

B Starting 'Salem's Lot finally. A little disappointed as I didn't get the extended version, I guess that just means I'll have to read it again!

I, too, have some old library books. No cards in them, though. One of the things I missed most when I read the ebook was being able to easily look back at stuff. Apparently I do that a lot because I either can't remember or missed something. That's a lot easier to do with a real book.

Misty, is that the one written by Dean Koontz? If so, I really loved that book.
