The comments sound so good that I just picked up a copy of it (Swan Song). Also reading Teacher, Teacher by John Locke and am starting the audio of heart shaped box.

What a book! I can't seem to put it down, so sad I'm working and can't read it as much as I'd love too and am relying on bus journeys and tea breaks!

Vicky, I think that The Long Walk is often overlooked. I found it to be a quite enjoyable read. Glad to hear you're having a hard time putting it down.

Glen | 229 comments Currently reading an ebook called Progenetor which is keeping interested.
JUST finished Full Dark, No Stars. How about 5 stars instead? Best short story compilation done by The King. Was blown away by the fact that no punches were pulled in each story which kept me turning pages, feeling more filthy by the moment as I cringed at the subject matter. All I can say is 'WOW'. Best writing since Duma Key and best fiction he has written outside of the Dark Tower saga IMO.

message 1013: by Jon (new)

Jon | 20 comments Hi all. I'm currently most of the way through The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien by J.R.R. Tolkien and really enjoying it. Its one of those 'must reads' I'm glad I'm finally getting around to it. So many differences to the movies that I would never have expected.

I'll probably read something different before moving onto The Two Towers (The Lord of the Rings, #2) by J.R.R. Tolkien and I have so many to choose from! At the moment its a toss up between Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin and Shift (Silo, #2) by Hugh Howey .

I've also just ordered The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton - has anyone here read it? I read the first chapter in the bookshop yesterday and thought it seemed really gripping. I'll let you know when I start that.

I should mention Stephen King in this post! - I've been collecting his books this year and now have about 40. The plan is to read 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King and to re-read It by Stephen King later in the year. See my reading challenge to see how I'm doing. Bye for now.

The Long Walk is essential King/Bachman and should be read by everyone in this group. Well done you guys.

I also finished American Gods some month ago. I liked, but I know it's a complex novel, with so many stories in the main story. I hope you enjoy, because I think it deserves.

It does pick up and has a strong ending as I recall. (It's been quite a while since I read it.) But there are some slow spots and a few concepts that just never worked well for me. I think you'll recognize them when you wade into them. On the other hand, I have it on the list of pretty fair books for non-horror King fans.

That is how I first heard about it because King recommended the book. You know a book is really scary when it scares even him!

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Almost done with Heart Shaped Box... God, this guy (Stephen King's son, Joe Hill) can write. He's a poet, and his dialogue is miraculous. His descriptive powers may even surpass his old man's. Interesting though, in the two books of his that I've read the super amazingly bad guy is a father figure. Hummmm.

I read that book at the start of the year. Definitely took a while to get through, but well worth it. I've certainly never read a book like it at all! I bought it on a whim because my friend had said it terrified him and I'm soo glad I did. The labyrinth chapter was a favourite part (but confused me endlessly at first)
