I'm finishing up Lev Grossman series The Magicians with The Magician's Land. It's hard because I want to spend hours with this book, but I also don't want it to be over.

Well... I'm almost finished and feel quite disappointed. I feel like he has tried to write a book to match every critics he received are Ready Player One. Not sure what happened to the main characters too, not very happy about it either.
Would recommend to ignore the existence of this book to be totally honest with you, sorry if this is not what you hoped for. Not feeling happy about it either. Please let me know IF you ignore my recommendation and read it and let me know what you think!

Hey Marleen,
Interesting. Did you enjoy the first book? Also have you seen the movie and if so, what were your thoughts on it?

I did enjoy the first book a lot, it made it to my favorite list! Seen the movie too. Is you see the movie as a movie on it's own, I think it's a great sci-fi/action movie. The movie and the book were totally different, but I liked them separated if you know what I mean.
The first book has all these awesome jokes for the people who know the references and stuff.

Don't apologize. I'm glad you told me, because now I needn't worry about getting it!

Gotcha. Yeah I just saw the movie and thought it was just okay. I was planning on seeing if the book was better. Thanks for the confirmation!

Haha it might might take a while. You know how it is, so many books, so little time.
I'm going to start reading "The Rats" by James Herbert next. Received this recommendation from a group. Let's see how scary it is!

Haha I know the problem, for ever growing tbr list. Let me know if it's scary. If you like a scary story, would recommend checking out Ronald Malfi too!

Glad to know I can skip it. I wasn't actually hung up on the first book or the movie so I won't bother trying the second book.
The non-King book that I am reading now is "Aliens: Bug Hunt". It is an anthology set in the Aliens franchise spanning the time period from the first 4 films. A standout story for me is one from the perspective of Bishop, the android from Aliens. It is about his activation and first mission. This was a freebie on audible and a good space filler until my next monthly credit.
Well I just finished ‘If it Bleeds’ by King and ‘The Wrath of Angels’ by Connolly, so I believe I may start ‘Sleeping Beauties’ now by Stephen and Owen King.
Kandice wrote: "Late for the group read, but I just started The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires."Let me know how you like it, been thinking about reading it.
Derrick wrote: "Starting Dreamcatcher tonight! It'll be my first time reading it. Super excited...."OMG you are going to meet the s#@t weasels!
I finished The Outsider not too long ago. I'm reading Mr. Mercedes now.

That part of the book very much scared the you-know-what out of me. Too bad the rest of the book couldn't have been as frightening as that!

So aside from that... what's your opinion of Dreamcatcher?
Derrick wrote: "So aside from that... what's your opinion of Dreamcatcher?"I'm not Kandice, but I'll chime in here anyway. I enjoyed the book quite a lot. I think it is unfairly maligned by many readers who were looking for something different, or who made fun of the way King handled the interaction among some of the characters. I prefer to give authors a great deal of "rope" when I read them — it's a form of respect, I think — and try not to let my expectations or my sense of what is proper or correct to get in the way of my enjoyment.
Derrick wrote: "So aside from that... what's your opinion of Dreamcatcher..."I didn't care very much for it when I first read it, but when I reread it a few years later, I liked it quite a bit more. Not only is the relationship between the four (five) main characters beautifully written, but King wrote Duddits, the mentally handicapped man, with exquisite care. I have a niece very much like Duddits and upon reread I realized what a terrific job King had done.
AFTER you finish it, you could read my review, but the best thing I can say, is that like Jerry, I found the aforementioned poop weasels terrifying! I read with a clenched butt!

Thanks brother! I appreciate the input.

I did see the film 17 years ago when it came out but I remember none of it. I have no idea what to expect but I'll be starting it here momentarily....

I read somewhere that she was dealing with a pretty horrendous case of writer's block that just wouldn't quit. She's also had to deal with some pretty horrific "critique" — I use the term kindly (a lot of it is just mean-spirited human bile) — with regard to the "Twilight" series.

I read about the fact she didn't continue with the series, when I was looking up this book as my next read. GR listed two possible sequels that she never continued on with. I'm still early into the book but hopefully it has a good conclusion.
I just purchased The Wind Through the Keyhole. Hopefully it arrives soon. I've not read it before. I'm planning on rereading the entire series starting in January. This time around I'll be able to reread it with The Wind Through the Keyhole in it's proper place!
I'm reading The Stand by Uncle Stevie, only about 6% done but I've liked it so far, it's scary because you get to thinking something like this could happen. When the corona first started first thing I thought of was Captain Tripps.
