What Are You Reading Now? Pt 2.
Finishing up war of the worlds... getting ready for when eagles dare, then to hell and back which I’m really looking forward to read since it’s about a real America hero as he was the highest decorated during WWII then I’ll be ready for Big Stephen King with the outsider...! lot to read but I do have a plan...
With the capture of the golden state killer, I went back and took another look at "I'll be gone in the dark," the true crime story of the woman who tracked this killer and then died just a year before he was caught. She definitely reenergized the case and contributed to his eventual identification. If you like true crime you really should read this books. It's another one of those coincidences that seem to occur frequently in these kinds of cases, where the story behind the book is almost intriguing as the case itself. This was actually my first time reading Gerald’s Game. It was an awesome story, thought to read at times but awesome nonetheless. I’m currently reading Dolores Claiborne for the first time as well, it also turning out to be quite good. I shouldn’t have skipped them back in the day, but glad I’m finally catching up with these two incredible women!
Hi, Marc-Antoine - I too "skipped" Gerald's Game initially, only going back to it and reading it just last year or so. And I agree, it was really quite excellent, and also quite frightening, I thought! I think it stands as one of SK's more underrated titles, for a variety of reasons, not all of which I understand. [BTW, your post reads "thought to read at times" but I think you mean "tough to read", no? You might want to edit that. :) ]

I just finished a Matthew Scott novel (Apocalypse Hill) which reminds me a lot of King and the torment that he drags his protagonists through. Just thought I'd mention someone different. Hope I'm not breaking any taboos in this room.
I am reading Fever. I didn’t notice this when I bought the book, but there is a quote from King on the cover:“Reminiscent of The Stand and The Passage. Great stuff.”
Two of my favorites books.
I’m finishing up HG Wells War of the worlds and just came across something interesting..... I perceived a strange light, pale, violet-purple fluorescent glow, quivering under the night breeze. For a space I could not understand IT and then I knew IT must be the red weed from which this faint irradiation proceeded. I remember reading Dreamcatcher, which was one of my favorites... now I’m thinking that the Ripley sounds a bit like that I just quoted from this awesome classic....

No doubt it had a big influence on Dreamcatcher. I hope you enjoyed it.
I’m torturing myself with The Amityville Horror II. I didn’t like the first one, but this is by a different author, so I thought, why not. I’m regretting that decision. Terrible book. One thing that’s infuriating is they’re both supposedly based on the true story of the Lutz family, yet the names of two of the kids are different. One of the two books at least is fudging.
Started The Scorch Trials, #2 in the Maze Runner series, by James Dashner. And I'm DEVOURING it, only 50 pages into it.So far I like it better than The Maze Runner. :-)

Was on my TBR list too for a long time. Just getting around to it.
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
Just started Authority by Jeff VanderMeer. This is the second book in his Southern Reach Trilogy. I enjoyed the first book.
Just picked up NOIR by Christopher Moore. Not like some of his other works: (A Dirty Job, The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove, Bloodsucking Fiends... humor about horror subjects), this is more humor collides with a 30s/40s Detective Novel. We'll see.
I'm reading The Executioner by Chris Carter The 3 page chapters are annoying me I'm just constantly turning pages

Thanks Nancy. I have to other books going but starting this one was like going home. :-) (Although I remember reading it years ago and not thinking it was that good at the time. We'll see.)

It wasn’t one of my favorites of the series either when I read it the first time. So I am curious how I will feel about it this time around.

Those are are two massive books back to back! Kudos to you if you can do it. I wouldn’t say I enjoyed Les Miserables, but it’s an extremely well written novel. Not cheery reading.
