On Writing is a great book, I think. An autobiography as well as some lessons on how to write a novel.

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments I really loved On Writing! I’m semi-obsessed with memoirs and this is the closest we’ve ever gotten to one by the King. I also found his writing advice really interesting- the road to hell is paved with adverbs :)

Absolutely!!!! And exclamation points.

message 5211: by Aditya (new)

Aditya Needed a break from gritty crime so read Crimson Shore, number #15 in Pendergrast series. Fun read ruined by a cliffhanger ending. Rating - 3/5
My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Also Read Woman in the Dark by Dashiell Hammett. One of Hammet's forgotten shorter works and forgotten for good reason. It felt like a disjointed first draft. Rating - 2/5.

Wise Cat (wisecat) Now starting #5 in the YA dystopian series "Gone" by Michael Grant. It's called "Fear".

Also still working on "Zoo" by James Patterson. I like it better than the TV series they made "based on" it.

I know hard translations are! I remember trying to translate something from French to English in school. Sometimes things get "lost" in translation since there's no equivalent English word!

True! And I actually think it was expressed much more deeply in Japanese !

Wise Cat (wisecat) Michele wrote: True! And I actually think it was expressed much more deeply in Japanese ! "

I find that odd, since the Japanese are not known to embrace emotions or expressing them...esp. deeply. It's a cultural thing. Being too open with feelings or opinions is generally taboo...(In other Asian countries too, like China. So not just Japan)

Not saying everyone is like that of course..Just in general. :-)

message 5239: by Nick (last edited Dec 24, 2017 11:19AM) (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Just finished "I CAN'T MAKE THIS UP" by Kevin Hart. Not a novel, just an autobiography with added life lessons. No real horror except the way his dad treated him when he was a kid. But Hart is a comic, so as terrifying as it was, it's still funny. Here's my review.
