I posted here before that I started reading South of the Border, West of the Sun , but I am not sure if I can continue reading it because it reminds me so much of my last relationship... I literally cried just a couple of chapters in because I felt like the story was about me and my ex in so many ways... I hate leaving books unfinished but I might have to change to another book for now :( . Has this happened to anyone else? That you read something so close to your own life and it made you sad?

Sad yes, angry? hell yes, but there can be insights that help you better understand what happened too.
Just picked up a copy of Ray Bradbury’s The Halloween Tree. It’s important to me because I knew Bradbury when he wrote it. I explain all that in my latest blog, but since my blogs are no longer updating on Goodreads for some reason, I’m posting a link here. If you want to read about how I knew Bradbury and why he wrote the book or more about my adventures in Hollywood in the 60s (I am an official FRIEND OF MICKEY MOUSE), check IT out. Here’s a direct link. http://www.nickiuppawrites.com/nickiu...

I've got The Halloween Tree on my 'to read' list along with some others. I have to admit, I've so far read nothing by the man aside from an attempt at Something Wicked This Way Comes some years ago. I struggled with the way it was written and gave up, but am ready for another go and to hopefully get into some of his others.
In these days I'm reading Interview with the Vampire, my first book by Anne Rice. Nice writing style, but after the first half over, I have difficulty continuing.
Andrew wrote: "In these days I'm reading Interview with the Vampire, my first book by Anne Rice. Nice writing style, but after the first half over, I have difficulty continuing."I read the first book, but I had to force myself to finish it. I am not going to be reading any more of her books.

I'll try to finish this one, then I will see if continue with the others.
Latasha wrote: "I think the others are better."Some books have intriguing plot and charming characters, so I think that this one won't be the last I'll read by Anne Rice. :)
Latasha wrote: "I think the others are better."I hear you, my son said the same thing but it just not my style of writing. If you like it that's fine I won't hold it against you, if you don't hold books like slugs and killer slugs against me LOL. Yes I know the are ridiculous far fetched stories but I needed something stupid at the time and it holds true to today.
Finished my 40th Stephen King book today. o/.Next is most likely Dreamcatcher(already started reading it, but I might pick up something else )
The darkest secret by Alex Marwood was brilliant 5☆ definitely recommend it, I'm getting started on The Fog by James Herbert

If you want a chill read "The Emissary" or "The Small Assassin" from that collection.

Would be my first Lovecraft"
"At the Mountains of Madness" is highly regarded by some, but for me it was more of a slog to get through. Felt like I was reading about the interior decorating tastes of ancient aliens...pages and pages of it. IMHO, "The Whisperer in Darkness" and "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" are much better HPL works.

Andrew, if you want to buddy read them, I can join at anytime. I've read them all at least twice now.
Right now I’m struggling through Dracula as this is a different from I’m used to reading and it’s a bit challenging to read. When I do get through this I’m getting back to the Dark tower with the wizard and glass

I did like the Mts of Madness, but it does read like an alien travel channel show.

Thanks, Latasha. I would like to read them and it would be awesome do it with someone who knows them so well. The first one didn't hook me as I was expected, but I want to continue with the series, as soon as I've finished the book I'm reading.
I'm about halfway through Joe Hill's "Strange Weather". I like the second story (Loaded) better than the first, but I'll reserve how I feel about the whole thing until I'm finished.
Just finished Ready Player One. (Soon to be a new movie directed by Spielberg) Looks like everyone else has already read this. But my five-star, two cents are at: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Of course, I do disagree with Kandice's comment on the ending. I thought it was great. But that's probably my problem. My only comment to the group is if you haven't read this one, better do it.
Enjoying the YA Gone series by Michael Grant. I'm currently on #3, "Lies" in the series. Also reading The Martian by Andy Weir. I know they made a movie, which I haven't seen.
After I finish The Martian, I'll be reading Zoo by James Patterson finally. Ever since they made a summer TV series, I've been wanting to read the book and see how different it is (if it is at all).

That is a fun book. I’m glad you enjoyed it. There is a movie trailer out there somewhere.
I finished Spin last night. Which was very good. Tonight I am gong to start Year 50. It’s the last book for a book title A-Z challenge.
Anthony wrote: "Just finished Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. Now I'm reading The Talisman."How did you like Dark Matter. It got mixed reviews, but I loved it. Here's my review.

Lie to Me by J.T. Ellison What a fabulous thriller. Secrets, lies and betrayal You cant go wrong with a book from J.T. Ellison!
Really, Shannon I know I am a slow reader but you don't need to tell me how slow. Fear not I am not serious well not to serious that is good going 15 books since Oct.
OK so let's see, I just finished Sarah Pinborough's compulsively readable Behind Her Eyes, which I liked a lot lot, and I'm slowly but surely making it through Calvino's The Baron in the Trees. As I am also currently "auditioning" books I've already read as potential Christmas-gift candidates, I'm currently rereading (or reskimming at least) a number of recent favorites. These include Sharp Objects, which I think is (easily?) the best of Gillian's Flynn's books,
Feed by M.T. Anderson,
American Elsewhere by Robert Jackson Bennett,
Avogadro Corp by William Hurtling,
Night Film by Marisha Pessl,
The Ruins by Scott Smith (a most harrowing reading experience),
and an oldie-but-a-goodie cribbed from SK's Danse Macabre,
The House Next Door by Anne Rivers Siddons. Mostly now "dancing" with the titles in this list and thinking about the people to whom I am considering gifting them.
