Bella is a bad sample to teenagers. Freaking happy to have her boyfriend in her bedroom in the middle of the night and endangered herself to see Edward again? Weird.

I will say no more.

First of all, Romeo and Juliet story was set in a different era. Long time ago. Juliet was not written as independent girl, simply a young one from a rich family. She might be a spoiled one. And Juliet's neighborhood was not big enough for her to meet more boys in her age. As a rich girl, the number of boys she could meet was even lessened since she could not meet various kind of boys but ones with similar high level. Even Romeo came from a rich family. When Romeo, ONE WHOM SHE HAD MARRIED, died, her willingness to live also died with him.
Bella was an independent girl in a modern era. She was able to survive her parents' bad marriage. And Edward was not even married to him. It was nothing more than a break-up between lovers. To see Edward, Bella was willing to put herself in danger, even to a stage when she could die.
Teenagers do not really care about Romeo and Juliet's tragedy. Regardless the amazing love story, everything was in the past. Teenagers do not really care what people in older era did with love. But Twilight is set to the present time, The era where teenagers also live and can take it as a sample of what teenagers do when they are in love. That you should be happy when your boyfriend shows up in your bedroom in the middle of the night and that you can do anything to see him. Certainly bad samples!
I love the books but the actress that played Bella i dont like and i would do anything to touch Taylor's chest and abs Ohmigoddess

But yeah, everyone's right. Nothing much happened in New Moon in terms of action and story. But I was in love with Jake so I liked this one the most. Jake gets screwed over in all the other ones.
So basically the story of Twilight is like that of Romeo and Juliet: The Modern Emo version and Romeo is a vampire.

NICE. AND WELL-SAID. i mean for the people who hated this book, think about if myer didn't write this one. the reader whould have know what it would do to bella. despite that i dont like this plat of new moon i think this book was 100% nesscessary to the series.

Honestly i liked reading the books but Bella in my opinion is an idiot. She tried to kill herself just to see Edward.

I personally don't like her as a character.

ikr! i got tired of the stories from the pack and i just skipped it. plus Bella is the stupidest human EVER! Only she can get dumped by a shinny vampire then run and find herself a werewolf.

Bella Swan is a fictional character, and though she is relatable, she is not real. That's right, no normal person acts the way she does when they get dumped, but that's the point! It's supposed to be insane and crazy and stupid. The only thing I liked about New Moon was the depression and Jacob. Everything else was just poor.
Personally, I take the novel as a satire, even though Meyer didn't intend for it to be that way. To me it says "Look at this! It's insane! Don't be like this!" But to each his/her own.

A normal girl would throw herself off a cliff if a guy dumps her? A normal girl would be constantly putting herself in danger in order to hear hallucinations? I've read the book 3 times and I'm actually on chapter seven now. I probably understand it better than you do. I love the depression and the relationship with Jacob, yes the writing is poor but it has a lyrical prose quality that I definitely enjoy. I don't think the depression is at all realistic but it's an enjoyable read.

second i guess every one has its own reaction .. so maybe u will not jump to see the face of Edward put bella does... don't try to judge the book only by trying to understand one hero...
third who is the one who told u that by reading a book 3 times u will understand it better ??... I respect ur way but i prefer to enjoy every book once ...

no one told me that reading a book three times makes me understand it more...im just trying to prove a point, im not an ignorant fool who disses books and fads before understanding them first. New Moon is actually my favourite of the Twilight books

and twilight is the one that i prefer honestly .. i was just trying to tell u that writers some times invent a hero with whom we can't deal .. but that don't make it a bad book..

I'm just expressing my opinion Rihab. You challenged my opinion, thus I clarified. If you don't agree with me so be it.

second i guess every one has its own reaction .. so maybe u will not jump to see the face of Edward put bella does... don't try ..."
ok :D... between i enjoyed our conversation.. what are u reading now?

I wouldn't say he's taking over her life. Edward just wants whats best for her. She was a no one before him. and He was just a pretty face. They work so well together <3

seriously, thank you! it's so good to find someone who understood this book the same way i did.
despite what one thinks about SM writing abilities i believe she succeeded in expressing the angst of first true love.
glad to see I'm not alone. :)

I m with u too. I like how SM wrote these books.. the love between the 2 was amazing.maybe we miss a love like that now .. maybe we are so busy now and we don't find time to share a love like that one

I agree with many of you that Bella was annoying and whiny and needed to grow a back bone and have a little spunk. She irratated me to no end. I read the books simply to be able to say that I read them and be able to participate in conversation when the topic arose. I did not like Edward. I realize that his character is supposed to have lived several decades prior to the time set but I would hope that he could adapt and adjust his personality a little better to fit the times. The sparkling thing just threw me. Classic vampires just don't sparkle... super human strength and speed yes... sparkling no. As for Jacob and the werewolves... meh... not a whole lot you can do to jack up the mythology behind werewolves.
As for getting teenagers to read: Great! Fan-freaking-tastic... now go read something that has a little more substance. I know several other books that have vamps and werewolves with more plot and ideas that make people actually think about what is happening. Then those who feel like they can graduate up to big kid books can have their world opened up by many other great authors with stories and lessons to tell. I just don't understand how some fans (aka: twi-hards)have said these books will be the ones they only read. Why limit yourself to sub-par reading material?
