Kelsey I understand that it is well written, but why does Bella have to be all depressed and trying to kill herself just to hear his voice? Sorry for all of you people who are obsessed... :)

message 2: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Please reply soon!

Brittany Its horribly written! And Bella is annoying.

message 4: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey I totally agree! I wish that she could've been someone who was positive and happy rather than like the creepy kind of depressed. Edward is completely taking over her life.

Mrsku Man it's good to find people who feel the same way as I do. I didn't like the way she was so obsessed and depressive either. Although I suppose that it gives a good reason for why she should have bonded so strongly with Jacob

Brittany She definitely was not a healthy teen. I worry some girls that age think that's normal. I don't want my sisters acting super obsessed with someone. I just think all of the characters were sad other than Alice and Emmett. It was just blah the whole way through. I think I kept reading them hoping they would get better. But they didn't. Meyer should have worked on them longer. I guess I just kept seeing the potential, but it was never fulfilled.

Nikkei That's why the books are so good! They're dark and passionate and don't follow the fairytales that kids read when they're young. Most teenage girls can relate to having a crush over some teenage boy and it be all consuming and all they ever think about. Love isn't always rosy and Meyer acknowledges that and shows the darker side of being in love. Bellas character is so much more real because she does become depressed and doesn't bounce back straight away, it's a very human thing to do. Most people given the chance of seeing someone they love/d and lost would do irrational things to be given just the possibility.

Brittany Ahhhh nooo!!! Meyer is not a good writer. The sentences are terribly strung together and the word "I" is the start of every sentence. Bella is not realistic at all and she is very blah. Just plain boring. And it is just like every other fairy tale, excpet Bella is always trying to "sacrifice" herself when its not neccesary, she is a little psychopathic.

Seriously stay away from these books.

WASTE OF TIME.

Sami I love this series but I see where you're coming from. This is my least favorite book until the end because Bella being so depressed kind of ruins the whole book.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Why do we have do avoid unhappiness? It's a valid emotion.

Brittany But its not a neccesary one. Its not that she is unhappy. Shes obnoxious.

Melissa Oliver I understand both views. Bella did annoy me a lot, and a lot of it was unrealistic. But they were very suspenseful, and that's what kept me flipping the pages. I had to ignore her annoying character to enjoy. But I did enjoy them.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

How is she obnoxious and not not happy? Although she's a little clingy.

Antoinette Bella is whiny and annoying, but she IS A GOOD LOOKING GIRL... SO, why can't she get a LIVE GUY ???

Audrey Kelsey wrote: "I understand that it is well written, but why does Bella have to be all depressed and trying to kill herself just to hear his voice? Sorry for all of you people who are obsessed... :)"

Have you ever been depresed do you know what it is like? because it is not fun! I mean I didn't get mine because a dude left me but I understand how she felt.

Hylian Princess I agree with the comment that it helped her bond with Jacob. Yet, I also agree with the comment that Bella's psychotic! Hearing Edward's voice and seeing his face every time she's in trouble is a little unrealistic. I mean, sure, she could have some memories of him saying stuff like that, but in reality, they wouldn't just pop up vividly in situations like that. She would also have to remember them in her normal day as well. And, now that I think about it,if I was on the brink of death, I highly doubt that I would be hearing a dreamy voice in my head. I would be thinking about more important things, like, OH, I don't know, how to save my life!

AGREE

Kristen Callihan I understand both sides, but I think what Meyer was trying to do was show just how deep her love was for Edward. She tried to make the bond between partners really deep, and something that would make them miserable if they were apart. It was suppose to be something horrible that was why when Edward killed James in the first book that his partner could only focus on getting her revenge on the Cullen’s because of the misery she felt over losing James. I couldn’t really stand how depressed and week Bella was during this book, but I can see what Meyer was trying to do with it. I can understand the depression of it all because she had lost the most important thing in her life, but it also showed that part Bella was attracted to Jacob as well, and we find out why in the last book. Either way Bella was going to be attracted to a paranormal force that was out of her control. I just think the love triangle didn’t quite live up to its full potential that it could have in this book.

Fuglsang What's really disturbing about the whole thing is that Meyer believes her perfect couple to be better than other couples such as Darcy and Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice - she believes her couple is better because if Elizabeth or Darcy died, she believes the other would just learn to live with it. Well, duh! It's not healthy NEVER to get over a loss. True love or not - it's just sick.

Jackie What's worse she took him BACK! Not waiting at least a minute to think over it. After all that heartache and what-not. That's what pissed me off. She should of just saved Edward and went out with Jacob.

message 21: by M (new) - rated it 1 star

M She was never supposed to be with Jacob because from the very beginning she fell in love / obsessed over Edward and didn't even consider the other possibilities!
The way she stay depressed in this book wasn't healthy and for a girl her age be suicidal because of a bad break up is too much...when you are 17 and have your hole life ahead of you, you shouldn't think about almost ending it just so you can hallucinate with some guy you barely know.
I don't really like Bella, there are vampire stories and heroines out there who are much better than her in so many ways and I really think that her relationship with Edward wasn't healthy at all.
I agree with Jackie she should have thought better before she accepted Edward back, he broke her heart just because he thought their relationship was a hazard to her...well what good would that do everyone already knew they used to date and spend 100% of their time together so she would be in danger with or without him.

Jesla bella and edward belong to each other every body knows that

Maciel Yes! Finally someone agrees with me. i mean don't get me wrong i loved this book but it really annoy me how Bella was tring to hear his voice doing dangerous things or going all emo for him. i don't know but real love is sacrifice your happiness is his happiness i know sometimes is hard to move on but that's the thing right there you move on. but anyways its a good book after all.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

*agrees* i am not sure if i would read it again though...

Shelby Bays Before i write anything i just want to say that i am not obsessed with this book. i dont get obsessed with books.
its not that she tries to kill herself. I mean she only did something daring. and she knew that other people have lived. andshe didnt know that victoria was out there.
(sorry for the ands.)
and she didnt know about the bad weather.

Tamara i think that this book is insane!!!!!! u dont go emo/crazy wen a guy leaves u unless u already had some major issues before!!

Audrey yeah I would know! LOL! that is just sad.

Rianne 1.Bella is completely useless/stupid/annoying/pathetic (i could go on)...
2. Edward uses her like an expirament, a drug, at least thats how i see it, there is no love there.
3.No one get's THAT depressed over a guy.
4. Over all, i just hated the series, but new moon was the worst one, slow, no action.

Nurlely Dice wrote: "1.Bella is completely useless/stupid/annoying/pathetic (i could go on)...

1. Bella is lame, correct.
2. Edward was trying to save Bella by avoiding her. You need to read the whole story to understand it.
3. In real life, no human falls in love with vampire. In real life, people even die of broken heart. You need to know more about a broken heart.

I do not like New Moon because there are lots of lame and obsessive Jacob in the story.

Savannah Hmm, i personally think that if Edward could read her mind he wouldn't be evenly vaguely interesting in her. Becuase that's what drew him to her in the first place. She is soo reliant on him, she has absouletely no life without him, her whole life is her relationship with him and she spend all her time be pathetic and just whinging. Her relationship with Edward is seriously unhealthy. Like i have been depressed before, not because of a guy, but even then i didn't go around trying to get myself killed. She is offically one of the most obnoxious characters i have ever read about.*shakes head*

Nurlely The mind reading and the blood. Her blood sings to Edward, as his own drug...

For being depressed because of a broken heart part, I witnessed someone who was stupid enough to meet her demise because of that. Do not underestimate a broken heart. I do not think Stephenie was stupid enough to just create the story if she thought no one will ever commit suicide because of a broken heart.

But I agree that Bella is annoying.

Savannah ooh, yeh. The blood as well. I forgot. That probaly is a big thing, though surely if he could read her mind. Regardless to the 'smell' of her blood...his whole obsession things would be at least a little bit different. Though after reading books from her point of view, maybe he is lucky that he can't hear her thoughts.

Anyways, that's just a theory of mine...

Nurlely I read Twilight simply because it is a vampire story. However, it is rather disappointing though with that glittering skin under the sun part. Terrible ending. My best vamp is Eric from Sookie Stackhouse series...:)

Savannah Haha, i know. Glittering skin....lame. I enjoy vampire novels as well, but twilight was a big let down. I haven't read the Sookie Stackhouse series...though my friend tells me it's good.

Kayles Good to know I'm not the only one that found Bella annoying. I liked her in Twilight, but in New Moon she was getting on my nerves. Adding to that I think New Moon frustrated me because all i wanted was Edward to come back. Honestly Jacob was just as annoying. I wasn't interested in his litle school boy crush. What Bella and Edward have was far mor enticing for me to read.

Nurlely Sookie Stackhouse series has 10 books, Book 11 will be released in May. Adult version. I also read Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz. Jack is strikingly handsome. But Eric is still my fave vamp...:)

Antoinette Trite, boring, poorly written, annoying, flat characters---what else to there to dislike? I couldn't get through " Twilight "; I couldn't get through " New Moon ". I keep trying though, because friends told me Stephenie Meyers books are wonderful. Ack ! Her books are like a written root canal, just about as much fun !

Kelsey i thought it was boring when the hole camp fire thing happend i litilary fell ASLEP

Savannah Kelsey wrote: "i thought it was boring when the hole camp fire thing happend i litilary fell ASLEP"

I know, i agree. I didn't even read it all. I found it really hard to read a lot of parts of the books. That was one big one. I also found it seriously hard to read all of "New Moon". Bella just sulked the whole way through the book, well...until Edward came back anyway.

Kelsey yea i read the hole part up until he left in one day then i got bored and it tock me 4 ever to finsh it

Maciel and poor Jacob!

forget Bella

Aalisha Kanani Kelsey wrote: "I understand that it is well written, but why does Bella have to be all depressed and trying to kill herself just to hear his voice? Sorry for all of you people who are obsessed... :)"
Well technically she tried to kill herself because she was obsessed with Edward and i bet you edward would have done the same!!!I love the twilight saga and especially New Moon!!

Kelsey ok,,,,,,

Savannah Haha....hmmm??

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

What? I really don't Aalisha's comment.

Kelsey u really dont A.'s comment? what does that mean (you dont get it) (beacuse honestlyi have no idea)

well its to bad that you took my opinion so seriously, its only a book, and its what i thought, im not saying its wrong or right, im not stating a fact, let's leave it at that.

agreed in every way(:

Nope. I was not serious during my reply. I simply commented a comment. Isn't it what we suppose to do during discussion?...:) A fact is what has been written in the book. We are here to give away our opinions about what we feel. Cheers!

-hainekhen- Kelsey wrote: "I understand that it is well written, but why does Bella have to be all depressed and trying to kill herself just to hear his voice? Sorry for all of you people who are obsessed... :)"

Because that's how Meyer wants to develop Bella's character. True, she's clingy, obsessed, and not a really good example for teenage girls, but that's her character. True she's addicted in a way that really unhealthy, remember how Jacob told her that Edward is like a drug, that it consumes her; that's how she feels and that's how she coped up with being depressed (doing something dangerous, just to hear Edward's voice).

Meyer wants the readers to see how much Bella and Edward love each other (to the point of destroying themselves), it's not healthy and it doesn't bring anything positive to the emotions of the reader, but that's how some wants it, dark and negative.

Personally, I don't like her character, as a female of this century I wish to exude my independence. So, I don't take the book and it's characters seriously.
