Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Thats what I plan on doing with all the books we read for this. But I don't to find out too late that other teams complained.

message 52: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Since this trhead has became mainly a discussion thread, I created a thread for people to report finished books only. You can keep your posts here for your own tracking. I will also monitor those posts and the less active players read shelves. But I thought it would be helpful to have a thread only for finished books.

Thanks: 7%Finishedbooks

Ah, okay, thanks. I haven't really kept up on any FAQs regarding this because of my headache and overall anxiety over figuring this thing out, haha.

I'm about to make a list of all the titles/authors I plan to read for June and July but I work in an hour so I may not complete it until tonight. I'll look over all of the categories again, too, and see if I have book covers that fit anything, as well. Will try to be as thorough as possible to help you out, Mary.

Thanks again, Mary, for taking the reigns on this! You are not at all being a dictator about it, IMO. It's a big help that you're taking charge, and once I get some organizing out of my system and have an actual full day off work, I'll be better equipped mentally to help out, too!

message 54: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) You don't have to list your books ahead of time if you don't want to, Teresa. I can't decide how to set up my prepping for this.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Well, I need to make a list for myself anyway because I'm in a buddy read, plus I'm doing a challenge for myself, and well, I like a visual reference so I know what I'm committing myself to. I figured if I can make a list of books that potentially qualify for this 7 in 7 challenge that might help out with planning.

message 56: by Jex (last edited May 24, 2013 11:01AM) (new)

Jex (jexball) I think it would help most if when people finish a book they do something like this (this would help Mary find where your book fits):

Example
Finished: UnWholly (Unwind, #2) by Neal Shusterman
List of categories it fits and why:
1. Karen read it from team whatever she's on.
4. Buddy Read
5. Letters N or S for Neal or Shusterman (author name)

This would be posted in the finished thread of course and not here.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Boy, that is far simpler of a "template" than what I've been working on, Jex, LOL! Yay, now I know how to set my 'planned reading' thread up when I get back later, hehehe! Thanks!

message 58: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Yes something like that exactly!

You can put more than 1 book on a post too if you want. I just wanted someplace where I see only finished book and can mark where I've left off on updating.

Looks fabulous, Mrs. Dresden.

message 60: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) Yay I'm helpful! :-P

message 61: by Jex (last edited May 24, 2013 02:50PM) (new)

Jex (jexball) Can we each reserve a post in This Thread to post books we're working on and progression? (No discussion). Or is that simply your thread Mary?

Or if not that thread, can we make a thread for individual planning/tracking?

Oops! Did I call Jex "Mrs. Dresden"? So sorry.

Looks fabulous, Jex!

message 63: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Yeah you can reserve a thread there and then post finished books in the other one. I don't even need people to put a book link, just the title, author and what it fits is fine.

I'll change the title. This thread here can be the discussion thread. It's too cluttered now to make updating easier.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Just to be sure -- for #7 (the seven words, titles, etc) can I use two different books by the same author and count that author twice for the "7 letters in the author's last name" part of that task? ((Asked this on the challenge thread, too!))

Also, LK -- in your post on page one (sorry, don't have the post #) you have a list of books you might be reading and which tasks they may fit -- for all the green ones you mention task #7. Just wanted to remind you that green covers are category #6, in case you got mixed up (or made a typo!)

message 65: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I noticed that too when I was putting LKs book on my tracking threads and put them for #6.

message 66: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I don't know the answer to your question about the author last name. I saw that you asked it in the group thread. Post here when they answer you please. I know more than one of us can read the same author and use it for the same category. So I would assume that an individual could read more than 1 and count it.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Yep, will paste whatever answer I receive here, too!

It makes sense to me that two completely different books should count even if they are the same author, so we'll see!

message 68: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) So this is probably pretty obvious but it didn't occur to me to do this until today.

To see if you have books in common with other players for the Behind Enemy Lines category: bring up their profile and click on compare books. I just found several books I own just on 2 players from Moonstone and I didn't even look past the first page on the list it brought up.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Great tip, Mary, thanks!!

While I'm in here: This is a link about how our cupcakes from the mini-games from the RaT can help us out. We don't *have* to use them but it's a great help if we can't finish a category. We have 27 cupcakes at our disposal.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Coming up with my reading list (so far) just made me want to read all of my books NOW, lol! I've got a week to go and plenty of other books to read in the meantime but man, lists excite me, LOL!

Thanks for catching that, Teresa! I'll change it. And MOVE it to the right thread.

I know! I'm the same way.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments I asked: "Just to be sure -- for #7 (the seven words, titles, etc) can I use two different books by the same author and count that author twice for the "7 letters in the author's last name" part of that task?"

The answer received was: YES!

My reaction: YAY! :)

By the way... For the cupcakes, of which we have 28, all my books read in 2013 are on the same shelf: challenge-nbrc-tower . My name is on there twice, Puzzle #10 & #16.

I posted this info & link in my spot, too.

message 76: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I don't get that part of it. Does that mean if someone reads one of the books on that shelf then it can work as a wild card book in one of our categories?

I think we'll get all our categories in anyway but you never know if real life will get in the way of one of our power readers.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Oh, I thought we only had 27 cupcakes. Woo!

I'll do the same thing on my spot later tonight!

Yes! Exactly. Anything read by them for 2013.

I thought I deserved at least two cupcakes for doing all those puzzles. ☺

message 80: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Cool.

I didn't do any of those puzzles so I'm assuming that means none of my 2013 books count.

Also I might need help doing the tiny cupcake graphics if they're required. But I'll worry about that later if they're needed.

Yeah, they are easy; however, I can always just eMail you the html code.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Bronze Covers (For Task #2 Color Ahead: Blastoff Bronze, ahead of Cadet Blue in May)

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller The House of Discarded Dreams by Ekaterina Sedia Mechanique A Tale of the Circus Tresaulti by Genevieve Valentine The Alchemy of Stone by Ekaterina Sedia Clockwork Heart by Dru Pagliassotti Phoenix Rising (Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences #1) by Philippa Ballantine Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay The Curse of Chalion (Chalion, #1) by Lois McMaster Bujold The Crystal Cave (Arthurian Saga, #1) by Mary Stewart

I've found that a lot of steampunk books have bronze-ish covers so here's a link to some steampunk Listopias!
Steampunk Romance
Steampunk Books
Steampunk

And, finally...
Books with Bronze Covers (from any genre)

I think A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin could work for bronze, too.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Tangerine Covers (For Task #2 Color Ahead: Atomic Tangerine, ahead of Pewter Blue in May)

Ugh, not many that I could find and I'm losing interest in looking further at the moment. Orange covers will have to do. http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/78...

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Blue Covers (For Task #3 Color Behind: B'dazzled Blue, behind Cadet Blue OR Wild Blue Yonder, "behind" Pewter Blue in May)

Yeah, lots of those! Just type "blue cover" or "blue" into the Listopia search box! I may update this later.

message 85: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 476 comments Mod
Thanks for the bronze covers, Teresa. How do you think the librarian would look at me, if I went in and said I was looking for bronze books? ☺

message 86: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) How does that work since we're a combined team? Can we do either color? Or does cadet blue do their team colors and pewter do their team colors?

Moderators of NBRC | 1212 comments Mod
Sorry, Jex, I posted this over in the other group: "Pewter Blue/Cadet Blue, pick which one of you you want to use for the 7% Solution Ahead/Behind and stick with it for the end of June update, too.

Teresa discussed it more here.

As if being in two groups (main and "sister") wasn't bad enough. LOL!

message 88: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) No problem. Haven't had time to do my daily reading of threads yet :-)

message 89: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) Is this one Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #1) by Carolyn Crane bronzeish enough?

message 90: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) OK, so now I'm confuse, which one will we pick for ahead and behind?

I don't know. I'm wait to hear from the bosses. ☺

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments We're still discussing that, Sonia. Click that link in message 87 to see where the talks start. :)

I'm waiting for clarification on if we can choose a before from one team and a behind from the other or if we have to choose both from just one team. Looks like we are leaning toward Cadet Blue's standings, though, so far. Will be back later!

message 94: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) OK. I'll let that book in the plan for now.

LOL! Always thinking outside the box, Teresa. Sure, why not? Just stick with the decision for June. (PW's behind in May and June, CB ahead in May and June.)

message 96: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) My vote is for going with Cadet Blues before & afters. Blue is an easy one and now that I see what covers would count for Bronze, I can look and see if I have something for that.

I know I have some orange colors. Probably some tans too but those 2 are harder.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Moderators of Nothing but Reading Challenges wrote: LOL! Always thinking outside the box..."

Hehe!

Well, it looks like most people want to use Cadet Blue for both before and after. I'm fine with that, too. I don't know if I have access to any of those bronze covers/books (The Song of Achilles is actually on my TBR) but you can believe I'm going to start looking at my library's database because I'm digging a lot of them!

SO! Does everyone agree with using Cadet Blue as the team whose standings we go by for before/after? Remember: if we choose CB now, we must stick with it in June.

Reminder: Cadet Blue's "before" team (task #2) is Blast-off Bronze and their "after" team (task #3) is B'dazzled Blue.

*Colors just for fun, because I like adding images. :p

message 98: by Jackie (new)

Jackie I'm fine with using Cadet Blue for both.

message 99: by Jackie (new)

Jackie For B'dazzled Blue, does any shade of blue work or does it have to match closely the blue on their page?

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments I'm pretty sure it can be any shade of blue, as long as it's the predominant color on the cover.
