June Build Your Own Challenge

As with all of our BYOC challenges, you get to decide how to make this one work for you. As long as you can tie it to June, it will count.

Need some ideas? Here you go -

--June is the 6th month of the year, and Spring ends and Summer begins in June. You could Spell It Out, or read six books, or spell out anything you relate to the month of June etc. In the US, we celebrate Father's Day, and most kids/students get out from school for the summer in June.

* The solstice called the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere occurs on dates varying from 20 June to 21 June (in UTC). In the pagan wheel of the year the summer solstice is the time of Litha and the winter solstice is that of Yule.
* Feast of the Birth of St. John the Baptist (Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day in Quebec) June 24.

Secondary schools are off during the month (and also July and August), while June is the last month in primary schools.
* The second Sunday in June is Canadian Rivers Day.

* Independence day (June 17) in Iceland
* Fishermansday (first Sunday in June) celebrating the work of fishermen and those lost at sea. (Iceland)
* June is Black Music Month
* In the United States June is LGBT Pride Month.
* June 12 is Philippine's Independence Day
* June 21 is Go Skateboarding Day
* June 24 is National Holiday of Quebec

*Red and white roses
*June's birthstones are the Alexandrite, the Moonstone, and the pearl. The meaning is health and longevity.
*Its birth flowers are the honeysuckle and the rose.
*The zodiac signs for June are Gemini (astrology) (until June 20) or Cancer (astrology) (from June 21 onwards).

Restrictions - You can sign up and list your books at any time, but all books must be started no earlier than June 1st, and must be completed by June 30th to qualify. You can make changes to your challenge through the final day.

I can never get my reading coordinated enough to spell out something in a month. I usually do okay with the RRRC quarterly challenge because I have three months!

Okay, I'm going to read at least 6 books (June being 6th month) and my theme is that they each involve:

"What June Means to Me"
My sister's birthday is at the end of June. We're pretty close but we live far apart now so I don't get to see her as much as I would like. In her honor, I'm reading 2 books about sisters, plus an Amanda Quick book because that's one of her favorite authors. Next, when I was growing up, one of my favorite things to do during the summer was go to "the lake" with my dad's side of the family. I'll read a few books that have to do with lakes and family/father for Father's Day (covers, plot, characters, titles). Finally, I got married in June so I'm going to read some sort of wedding themed book but not sure which yet.

Egads, I haven't finished this! One of my books was on hold forever at the library and then I couldn't get into one of them, then I took a long time reading two books that were not part of this challenge and I just ended up in a reading funk. I may just finish this in July.
