are love triangles getting boring?

what i really enjoy though is when we get the story that has a love triangle that's a bit less balanced than all the others. sadly i think that the one in this series is very expected but there have been quite a few that have left me wondering a bit. (shatter me for example, that's a GREAT one)

Bachelor(ette) 1:
Childhood friend
Sweet
Comfortable
Boring
Hides feelings for thirteen years
Bachelor(ette) 2:
New
Dangerous
Mysterious
Exciting
Comes right out and says they love you
They'll look completely different too. I guess that's natural. What you can't get from one you want from the other.

But love triangles as a whole can be very good, so long as they are executed well. Just depends on the writer and the story.

I'm curious to what you mean by "books today". Are you comparing contemporary to classic literature? Keep in mind that the only books that stay in print for a century are the ones everyone likes. All the rest have been forgotten.

Exactly

Sad, isn't it? There really are not a lot of options. Although I have read a couple of YA books with the one girl and two guys theme, I don't remember the majority of them actually MAKING the theme work. The only books I can really think of right now that actually pulled it off is The Reckoning by Kelly Armstrong and The Host by Stephenie Meyers.
Yes, I know that Stephenie Meyers is not a popular author here in Goodreads but I liked The Host because the love triangle had an interesting twist to it unlike most others.
If a book can make an overdone, cliched theme great, then that book is gold in my eyes.

For me, a hopeless Romantic, i never get tired of Love triangles haha.<3

Yes. Love triangles are getting boring. I don't care who you pick! Just pick one of them. They both love you, they're both too perfect. Pick the one you love or be a rebel and pick the one that comes along half-way through the book to spoil your love and try to win your heart. They're. Both. The. Same!
Ahem. Love triangles are boring. Some completely cover the plot until the main thing that's being focused on is the love interests and who he/she (more commonly a she) will pick. While other's are the plot.

I hate love triangles, especially when the guy you like doesn't end up with the girl. And honestly, I'm always like JUST PICK ONE ALREADY! I read a book once (not naming it in fear of spoilers) where the whole love triangle thing started in the third and final book, and it I was like "Are you kidding me?!"
YA books would be so much better without love triangles. All romances should be like Tris's and Tobias's in Divergent.

And they are totally unrealistic. Two years ago I would have loved a good love triangle, but now my perspective has sort of changed. For one thing the whole love triangle thing has become a YA-fantasy cliche.
Its usually just a monologue about how hard it is to choose between two hot guys who are both equally "perfect", and by the end of the series you're sitting there thinking what the hell just happened.
And honestly it doesn't exactly appeal to my cynical mindset.

boring
unoriginal
waste of creative space
meaningless
amateurish
no value addition to the plot
decelerates story pace
unimaginative
improbable
irritating

All the love triangles are getting boring and they don't seem realistic. You just can't love two people at the same time. It's impossible. Also, have you ever seen love triangles in real life? I didn't.

It's not the first major love triangle. It's just the only one you can discuss with people on the streets.
Really, there aren't a lot of options. You can have one love interest, multiple, or none. That encompasses approximately 1/3 of the literature world.
