Want me to do a chapter breakdown? How many pages a day?

it took great effort but I stopped after chapter 7. You'll see what I mean when you get to it!

Yeah me too.
Just waiting for the Q's to start chapter 8!
LK?

• LaFortier: A wizard who brings the missive from Duke Ortega, the war leader of the Red Court, detailing the Red Court's motivations and what they desire for peace.

Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 1 – 7
1. Man-oh-man! Harry is in a deep dark depression. Will we find out more
about Susan in this installment, or will we have to wait for later one?
Will Harry find a remedy for her?
2. It sounds like Billy was about ready to perform an intervention on Harry.
Will Billy have a reaction to the ghoul marks? Did you know the little old
bag lady was (view spoiler)
3. So, what was your first impression of Harry’s new client, Miss Mab
Sommerset, before you knew she was a Fairy Queen of the Winter Court?
I certainly don’t trust her and worry about Harry’s agreement with her
for three tasks. He’s gut was telling him she’s on the level with her offer
of freedom. Her hurting his hand once to prove her mastery – okay –
but, then again right before she left is proof she’s beyond mean and NOT
to be trusted. Comments.
4. Who in the world is Ronald Reuel, besides a dead visionary artist? Who
– or what – is he to Mab? Who killed him? And why? Could Mab have
done it? Or was this all a ruse on Mab’s part?
5. Do you trust Harry’s old mentor, Ebenezar? Was he right in wanting
Harry to meet with the Senior Council first?
6. BOOK QUOTE: What about Martha’s cryptic statement: “You know what he
was meant to be. He’s too great a risk.” Comments?
7. Impressions of Listens to Wind – AKA “Injun Joe” – and Little Brother?
Will the little raccoon come into play later in the story?
8. Who could have killed Simon Pietrovich, Senior Council member
and vampire expert, and the whole compound at Archangel? An enemy
from within? And just to set up Harry?
9. LOL! I need me a different laundress, too! You? Other funny lines in this
section?
10. Man-oh-man! I don’t even know where to begin with that Council
meeting. So many characters and hidden agendas.
a. Has Harry been set up?
b. Were you worried they’d turn Harry over to the Red Court?
c. Who did that to Ancient Mai’s courier to the Winter Queen? Why
dump him off in front of where the Council meets?
d. Do you trust the Gatekeeper?
e. Have we seen the last of LaFortier? And does he have a hidden
agenda; could he be someone else?
f. Does the Merlin have a hidden agenda, other than to get his guy on
the Senior Council?
g. Did anything else stand out?
h. Bonus Question: Why did the hounds reacted that way to Harry when
he first tried to enter the Council area.
11. What is wrong with Murphy? Is it just what she says, or is it more than
just Kravos? (Not that he wasn’t bad enough.) Will she ever go into the
Nevernever?
12. Whoa. And I was pondering asking, “Is Elaine really dead?” Or maybe
that’s still is a good question? Comments.

Hope you feel better very soon!

1.Man-oh-man! Harry is in a deep dark depression. Will we find out more about Susan in this instalment, or will we have to wait for later one? Will Harry find a remedy for her?
Yep he's got all the sign of depression.I don't think we'll find out more about Susan or meet her in this book. but I really hope he finds a cure , I just had started to like her
2.It sounds like Billy was about ready to perform an intervention on Harry. Will Billy have a reaction to the ghoul marks? Did you know the little old bag lady was [a fake?
No he'll be fine .and I knew she was fake because she was the only one the park and she was mentioned more than a few times
3.So, what was your first impression of Harry’s new client, Miss Mab Sommerset, before you knew she was a Fairy Queen of the Winter Court?I certainly don’t trust her and worry about Harry’s agreement with her for three tasks. He’s gut was telling him she’s on the level with her offer of freedom. Her hurting his hand once to prove her mastery – okay – but, then again right before she left is proof she’s beyond mean and NOT to be trusted. Comments.
I knew she wasn't human but I thought she's from the summer court.no I don't trust her either , she showed that she's not trustworthy by hurting his hand at the end. I think she will let him go if he finishes the 3 tasks but I don't think those tasks are easy or safe to achieve.
4.Who in the world is Ronald Reuel, besides a dead visionary artist? Who – or what – is he to Mab? Who killed him? And why? Could Mab have done it? Or was this all a ruse on Mab’s part?
I didn't think about who he might be when listening to that part. I just thought he's been a guy who had had something magical for safe keeping with him. I don't think Mab has done it but she might know has done it.
5.Do you trust Harry’s old mentor, Ebenezar? Was he right in wanting Harry to meet with the Senior Council first?
yes he's definitely one of the good guys and it seems he knows what he's doing . yes it's always important to know who is with you and try to get more supporters before, they voted for him so he was right
6.BOOK QUOTE: What about Martha’s cryptic statement: “You know what he was meant to be. He’s too great a risk.” Comments?
OOoo , I've thought about this a lot.I'm sure there are things about himself that Harry doesn't know. he could simply be a very powerful wizard or he could have some special power that he inherited from or because of his mother or maybe there is prophecy about him
7.Impressions of Listens to Wind – AKA “Injun Joe” – and Little Brother? Will the little raccoon come into play later in the story?
I liked him. He seems like one of the good guys . I think we'll meet both of them later in the book but I don't think the raccoon would have an important part
8.Who could have killed Simon Pietrovich, Senior Council member and vampire expert, and the whole compound at Archangel? An enemy from within? And just to set up Harry?
Someone from the council betrayed them and not necessary the senior ones . It could be to set up for Harry and that Simon had been Justin's mentor that adds to it or The Marline could have him killed because he wasn't dancing to his tune. My impression was that he would have agreed with Injune Joe and Martha.
10.Man-oh-man! I don’t even know where to begin with that Council meeting. So many characters and hidden agendas.
a. Has Harry been set up?
b. Were you worried they’d turn Harry over to the Red Court?
c. Who did that to Ancient Mai’s courier to the Winter Queen? Why dump him off in front of where the Council meets?
d. Do you trust the Gatekeeper?
e. Have we seen the last of LaFortier? And does he have a hidden agenda; could he be someone else?
f. Does the Merlin have a hidden agenda, other than to get his guy on the Senior Council?
g. Did anything else stand out?
h. Bonus Question: Why did the hounds reacted that way to Harry when he first tried to enter the Council area.
a.Well ,it's obvious that he doesn't have a lot fans among the council and yes the mentioning of the fact that simon and Justin were related was a set up. the 3 things Ebenezar mentioned were set ups against Harry
b.oh yes , good thing that the Mab thing came otherwise they would have handed him over.
c.Mab's people and they delivered him so he could replay the massage.
d.yes
e.no we'll see him again , and he has his own agenda , that's for sure, he could even be the betrayer ! someone else? no that didn't occur to me
f. yes I say there a lot of things behind the scene that we don't know yet. one of them why he's against Harry.
g.not really
h. I thought it was because of the blood ,just like the other warden said.
11.What is wrong with Murphy? Is it just what she says, or is it more than just Kravos? (Not that he wasn’t bad enough.) Will she ever go into the Nevernever?
She went through a lot , her reaction when she saw Harry and came to the door with the gun shows that. Did I get this right? her ex-husband died recently right? I thought that was one of the reasons she was in that state.
12.Whoa. And I was pondering asking, “Is Elaine really dead?” Or maybe that’s still is a good question? Comments.
me too ,I was thinking is she really dead and then there she was . I thought she could be a fake too.

Are you feeling better?

#1 – I agree with you, totally. I don’t think we’ll see much of Susan in this book. I was just starting to like her, too.
#2 – Yeah, I’ve see too many TV shows with the bag-lady/man set-up for me not to be suspicious.
#3 – It didn’t occur to me she wasn’t human. Duh! Hmm…I haven’t made up my mind about the 3 tasks.
#4 – Yeah, I think Mab knows who did it and is setting Harry up for something when he finds out.
#6 – Good guesses. Could be any of those things.
#10a – I think someone is setting Harry up – Big Time.
#10c – Really? I missed that.
#10f – Good question.
#10h – I think it is more than that. Didn’t he have strange interactions with hounds before in other books?
#11 – True about her ex, but still… I think there is more going on, or whatever happened with Kravos is much, much worse than we thought.
#12 – Great minds…

Lauren's answers to DQs for chapters 1-7
1. Yes, he was definitely cranky in the beginning of this one. I'm not really a Susan fan so if she doesn't come back, I won't be heartbroken. That said, she probably will come back at some point. Not sure if Harry will find a cure or not - it would have to be something drastic.
2. Hmm… I didn't even think that there might be repercussions of the ghoul attack. Wow, she was UGLY! I had no idea the bag lady was anything else that she appeared - I need to pay more attention.
3. First impressions … I realized that there was more to her than met the eye and the second Harry brought out the nail, I knew she was fae. The fact that she is Mab was a very intriguing surprise. I definitely don't trust her - those fae are so sneaky, you have to be VERY careful when getting involved with them and I'm sure she has an agenda of her own.
4. I'm pretty sure that Mab didn't kill him, whoever he is, but someone or something may have set her up, which is a HUGE undertaking given who she is.
5. Yes, I think Ebenezer is the real deal and he was absolutely right to meet with the two senior council members. They needed to see for themselves the kind of person Harry is before committing to helping him.
6. Yes, there is something we don't know about Harry. It suggests that he has some sort of destiny. I wonder if his mentor, Justin, knew about it.
7. Loved the little guy! He was Injun Joe's test for Harry and he passed with flying colors. I hope he comes to Harry's rescue at some point :0)
8. Looks like there is a traitor in the White Council ranks. Have no idea who it could be right now - Merlin and LaFortier are too obvious at this point...
9. LOL! I need me a different laundress, too! You? - I laughed out loud in the street at those lines. I think I gave my dog a fright!
10. Those were such great scenes. It was interesting to see the political machinations of the wizards at work. Merlin definitely has an agenda when it comes to Harry but I'm not sure why. I knew that Harry wouldn't be handed over (you must never appease evildoers) and I found the Gatekeeper's compromise a very clever way of moving the plot ahead. The hounds reacted to the blood form his bleeding hand, didn't they?
11. At first, I thought she may still be a little off her game because of Kravos but then the revelations of her first husband are out ,and she and Harry are sharing some pretty personal details about their pasts. I don't think Harry has ever been so open about his relationship with Justin and Elaine.
12. I had a feeling in the 2nd book that we would be seeing her sometime so I'm not surprised that she has put in an appearance. The questions are why now and what does she want?

#2 – She was ugly. LOL!
#4 – Ah, yes. My mind was flirting with the possible of someone setting her up. Good call, I think. And you’re right; that would be a major player to pull that off.
#6 – I’m betting Justin did know.
#7 – Yeah, I’m betting the raccoon comes into an action scene again.
#8 – I agree; there is a traitor. However, I really dislike LaFortier…but you’re probably right about him being too obvious.
#9 – I laughed out loud, too! LOL!
#10 – You were more confident that I was, then. I think there is something in Harry’s blood that the hounds recognize. Don’t know what it is, though.
#12 – Again, you called it before I did; I didn’t get there until Harry’s talk with Murphy.

Ever since his girlfriend left town to deal with her newly acquired taste for blood, Harry Dresden has been down and out in Chicago. He can't pay his rent. He's alienating his friends. He can't even recall the last time he took a shower.
The only professional wizard in the phone book has become a desperate man.
And just when it seems things can't get any worse, in saunters the Winter Queen of Faerie. She has an offer Harry can't refuse if he wants to free himself of the supernatural hold his faerie godmother has over him--and hopefully end his run of bad luck. All he has to do is find out who murdered the Summer Queen's right-hand man, the Summer Knight, and clear the Winter Queen's name.
It seems simple enough, but Harry knows better than to get caught in the middle of faerie politics. Until he finds out that the fate of the entire world rests on his solving this case. No pressure or anything...
