I think these people are not liking it because both of the characters are screwed in the head and have major issues and you don't get the happy feely "omg I am so in love with you" vibe within the first half of the book. There are so many things that they go through and emotions that each character has to deal with in order to be able to get the other one to trust.
I think it was a great book. Yes, it was a little darker than the rest of her stuff, but I mean honestly, there is stuff out there Like Captive In The Dark and Consequences where the men beat the crap out of the women and have major issues that are way darker and more intense and people gushed about them.
End my rant. lol.
I'm very upset that she's feeling she has to pull her book. I am very glad that I have it.

If people hate your book then - to me - that means that you've probably written something they can't handle or they are unable to understand.
I will read it because now I'm dying to know what all the hate is about and that is definitely the wrong reason to read a book.

I have no idea! I didn't see any really bad reviews on Amazon. Only one person, said the book was a knock off and I didn't get that at all from reading it.
Some people, just need to get a life. Simple, you don't like the book, don't buy it. You always have to choice for a return at Amazon, if you feel that strong about it.

Disrespectful much?

Respect is earned, my dear.
Pulling a book over a handful of critical reviews is a tantrum. Call a spade a spade. No book is universally beloved.

I just finished the book, I totally do NOT understand why she is pulling the book. I also checked out reviews both here and over at Amazon, but I see no 1 star reviews, at all, and only a handful of 2 stars..
That is not what I meant when I said something to you though, I was talking about your comment on self publishers as a whole.. I wasn't sure that was fair, or what you meant by it.

OHHHH. See I did not see that, but I might have and just not realized it. That would make much more sense.

There are some really mean and hateful people out there. Have any of your read Bec Botefuhr? She has had some really crazy people attack her, not on just one of her books, but everyone she puts out these same people get really vicious. It is insane the abuse some of these authors go through.

I'm with Ridley. I love Ms Leighton's work but to pull a book because some people didn't like it? If all authors did that we've have nothing to read.

Here is some advice to save you from sitting on a book. You buy it you don't like it return it.
Don't shame the author about "I don't want my kids reading this " it sends the wrong message blah blah blah to women, maybe you but I do my own thinking all by myself, I don't need someone to save me or tell me what to think.
I read a post on here or Amazon that she didn't want her daughter to read a book because it sent the wrong message to women, sorry but its not the authors jobs to raise your kids but yours alone and if done right she can read that book in question and form her own opinions and go on with her life with minimal or no brain damage.

Well said.

AGREE... especially 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger'...
There is a reason that it is called fiction... I don't understand how and why people feel it is necessary to be nasty, horrible, belittling, etc...
I'm sorry M. Leighton is having to deal with the nasties of this world :(
Wishing M. Leighton all the best for the future.

I'm going to read it still
Every story have their background, so what??!!!

Not all books are lucky enough to get popular at such a sort period of time. Can you image all the hate EL James or Stephenie Meyer is getting? You don't see them pulling their books.
I get it that it's hard for her to see all the hate but it's a part - a huge one - of publishing a book.
Again, ONLY ONE WEEK OUT, she should have given it more time.

It isn't really all that dark, in my opinion, and there sure aren't many sex scenes. More innuendo than anything else. I'm not sure why she is pulling it, but I just can't believe it is due to the subject matter.

It isn't really all that..."
My thoughts exactly! I'm just now reading it - or trying to anyway. I don't see 'the darkness' but I see some crazy stuff (literally I think she is crazy or has some sort of multiple personality disorder anyway) but then again I've said it before that I'm reading it for all the wrong reasons after this whole pulling thing...
Even if the book sucks though it still doesn't justify it.

It isn't really all that..."
i think most people issues were the breath play and the little blood part..

I've read much, much darker material.

This was the angle I was seeing while reading the book also Kelly. If anything, the characters may have crossed some professional lines. Other than that, it isn't the darkest book I have read. Not even close.

There is NO FSOG similarity in this book - none!
I read the book in one day - it was a great book and I think the author is being to hard on herself

Don't you know that 50 Shades invented BDSM.

The male lead (Alex) in this book (view spoiler)
I suspect the private messages that the author might be getting (if that what’s going on) could be about that subject.
I support the author’s choice to not change the book to make the parents/mothers of the world (of which I am one) feel better.
I really liked the book, and I am sad to see her do this, but I respect her choice to have the book the way she feels the story needs to be told.
She is very brave to do this and stand up for her rights, and sacrifice the money that could have been made.
Too much trouble or bad press from this book could ruin her future as an author, maybe it should have been brought out under a pen name so it could not be linked back to her..but alas it’s too late now.
I am very happy that I was able to read this book, it has left me with some very emotional feelings on what we as people do to ourselves.
This book is about so many things
• The book is about love,
• Not being so hard on yourself,
• Learning that accidents happen, and that they can change your whole life, ruin it if you let them, or think you deserve punishment
• It’s about hiding in plain sight,
• it’s about conquering your fears,
• Finding the right person to love and support you no matter what,
• it’s about redemption

LOL. Sadly, for me it did. I had no idea butt plugs and whips could be so hot until Edward/Christian did it. ;-P (I read it when it was still Edward/Bella fan fic.)

I agree. This is a classic case of "indie authors behaving badly."

I agree! Blind Obsession was set in such a dark, haunting place. I think Until I break dealt with some darker themes but it definitely wasn't a 'dark' book.

I agree! Bad reviews shouldn't stop anyone from writing and publishing, it will always be a part of an author's life, if you can't handle it then don't write.
Not every book is adored.
And anyway, if the readers 'don't get the characters' - like M. Leighton posted on her blog - shouldn't you be wondering what you did wrong? That maybe it's your fault and not the readers' that have read probably hundreds of books? Just saying...
No 'any publicity is good publicity' in this case and this makes her look bad IMO.

Behaving badly? Because she chose to remove her book? Granted, I didn't hear about it being pulled, or I would have purchased it before that happened, so I'm not happy. But it's her book. She didn't go into your living room and rant and rave, she didn't go onto your blog and create drama- it's her book, her choice. Why are you out to label every little thing a self published author does as 'behaving badly'? Yes, there are authors out there that deserve that title. But I don't see this as one of those examples.

I really liked this book, but will admit the first couple of chapters were a little confusing to me, but then could not put it down.
