How Many Unread Books to You Have On Your Kindle/Nook?

Now that you all have me thinking doomsday scenarios, I am going to buy a solar charger for my iPad. At least I could still read for awhile.....til I run out of books. LOL

only 18, Its kind of vicious thing, just download, when Im about to read the first, there´s something new and thats it, spending too much time on the search
Wow! Let me know if a solar charger exists. Not only would it be great in a doomsday scenario, it would also be great at the beach or at a bar with lots of windows so you could just sit, sip martinis and read all day!

Ever since reading this discussion board, I am happy to say that I have begon reading all the unread books on my kindle. Unfortunately, I have posted that I had about 6 or 7 unread books. I miscalculated and realised that it is more like 25!
Unread books: 2 Kindle; 10 Nook; >200 iBooks. I can never resist the lure of a promising series, even if I don't know when I will have the time to read them all. To help manage this, I created a shelf in iBooks, "1st in series" so that I don't have to figure that out when ready to begin another series. Let's call it "preparing for retirement"--16 years to go!! :-)
Delta:I need to figure out how to list all of the sequels that are going to be coming out following up on books I have read (and enjoyed). I want to make sure I don't miss #2 (or #3, #4, ad nauseum). Right now I just keep a handwritten list and update it as I read or preorder. But, I'm so afraid I'm going to miss something I really want to read (after all I am a bookaholic!). I think other people have set up a TO READ SEQUEL list on Goodreads. I've got to figure out how to do that.
I don't remember the exact number, I guess it's around 250 right now..
I have over 600 unread books and I keep buying more.
I know the problem. One of my "friends" just recommended a "free" book today on Amazon and two lines later rated it 2 stars (death knell). Of course, I downloaded it for free and now will probably never read it.
I do that too Judy. I really need to take books off of my e reader, and just leave them stored on Amazon until I'm ready to read it. That way if they don't have good Amazon ratings or good goodreads ratings I won't even load them. That would really help a lot. I've been trying to do that since you started this thread. If I "buy" a freebie, and I'm not reading right away, I've just been leaving it on Amazon. I need to go through, and delete...delete....delete!!! on both Amazon and my Nook!!!
I.ve got 43 on my official Goodreads 'wanting to read' list but another 250+ on my personal 'Excel' list.

I always have the same concern. Sometimes I just go to the series page in Goodreads and select all of the books in the series "want to read". Sometimes I print the series list so that I request/reserve/purchase the correct book next. I usually try to purchase/download/acquire most or all of the books in the series as soon as I decide I liked #1 in the series. Check out http://tuebl.ca and http://bookos.org to help flesh out your series downloads (in addition to purchasing some).
Karen: I hate to show my ignorance but I didn't know you didn't have to download to your Kindle when you purchased a book. How do you leave it on Amazon?Delta: I find that sometimes a sequel to a book is only mentioned at the end of the first book. It isn't even mentioned at Amazon or Goodreads yet. Those are the ones I really think I might miss (because when you have hundreds of unread books floating around you tend to lose your mind!)
Theresa: I was too dumb to learn to use Excel, that's why I handwrite things. I'm sure I'm probably a generation older than most of you guys posting on these threads. Us old farts don't handle modern technology very well.

Another option would be to put it on a wish list with your favorite vender (like Barnes and Nobel). They will save the list (and probably notify you of the release when it is available).
Delta: Thanks for the info. I haven't used the Amazon Wish List very much but I probably should.
I do what Delta said. Subscribe to the author's newsletter and as soon as they have a release date I put it in my Google calendar. Then I get a bing on my phone at 8 in the morning telling me that book has come out. It makes for, a happy day. :)
For those of you who have problems finding out about upcoming books in a series or by a certain author. I find the website 'Fantastic Fiction" to be good. You can look up each author and find out all the books.
Excel is not that hard and worth learning. You don't need to know all the ins and outs to use for lists of things just how to type in names and things, add columms, text size/colors, etc: the basics. If you can handle basic comp stuff you can figure out Excel. I find it useful for anything I need to keep a list for, especially since my handwriting is so bad.

If they don't spark my interest again when I read the descriptions in a couple months, I remove them. Of course, it is easy for me to do that because I only read free books. I'd be a lot more cautious if I was buying them!
As for ratings, I have a love/hate relationship with them. A lot of times reviews turn me against books. I would read a lot less if I took reviews to heart. Many times I like a book and then read the reviews and find out that everyone else thought it was poorly written, which makes me feel a little stupid for liking it.

Judy-
I have a Nook, so when I buy books off Amazon they go to Kindle for PC and sit there until I convert them so I can load them to my Nook. (Nook reads epub, pdf etc.) Anything I buy from B&N will download straight to my Nook, but B&N will let you archive them, which takes them off of my Nook, but leaves the book on my computer. It's nice because when I read a Nook book I can archive it and it will take it off of my Nook, so it's not so cluttered. However, with all of the other stuff I have loaded, my Nook is a cluttered up mess.
Oh here's a good one for you. In an effort to read books I already have, I started reading "The Arrangement by H.M. Ward. I had books 1-4 already, and I thought the series stopped at book 5, so I figured I would only have 1 more book to buy to finish the whole series, and get 4 books off my TBR list. OH NO!!! The series is now on book 8, and is fan driven, and ongoing, so who knows how many other books will be written. *banging head on desk* Unfortunately, it is an awesome series too!!! So, I bought books 5-8 and now I'm going to be waiting for the next installment. I have her other series "Secrets" which is concluded at book 5. I already have all of them, so I'm going to read that next. *sigh* I give up!
Karen:I successfully avoided buying Arrangement 5 & 6 by reading the reviews and seeing that it didn't advance Sean & Avery's story very much. I have now read A7 and really liked it (and the fact that Damaged was brought into it). I have already preordered Damaged 2 and was grateful to read that it will the final chapter. I will wait to buy A8 until I know if it deals with Sean & Avery or is just a pimp for A9 and beyond. I'm very tired of these piecemeal books. I'll pay more if I could just get a complete book!
Secrets was good (and when I read it all chapters were published), but I've enjoyed The Arrangement and Damaged more. I'm still waiting for the next Trystan Scott. He seems to have gotten lost somewhere.
Judy,I am tired of them too. The "serial" books seem to be really popular right now, but I don't like them. I don't mind books in a series, as long as each book is a complete story. (eg. 4 brothers, and each book is about a different brother) I'm pretty sure that I got the 1st 4
for .99 ea, but the others I've bought for 2.99 ea. That's $16.00 for a story that is not even finished yet. GRRRRRR!!!! Hmmmmmm......maybe now I see why so many serial books are being written. I read a book the other day called
I payed 6.99 for it. I don't normally spend that much on a book, but you know what???? It was very well written, and a complete story. I think the author will write another book to go along with it, but if she doesn't, we aren't left hanging. If she does, and the cost is 6.99, I will have read 2 complete stories for 14.00 while I'm at $16.00 for a shorter page count, and an unfinished story. Going to really watch for complete books, and avoid the cliffhanger silliness from now on.
Karen: I read Surviving Raine the other day also. Really liked it except the epilogue really threw me for a loop. Couldn't imagine there would be a book #2 but I guess there will be.
I've got over 6,700 on my Amazon account. I follow about 1,000 blogs, authors, etc on Facebook and find between 10 and 20 free books to download per day. I have an addiction. I swear I will read them all one day, right.
Tracy: You definitely have it bad. I hope you are about 5 years old so you have many years ahead of you to read all those books!!

I have 85 on my Kindle unread and another 44 unread hard covers. If I find a book I like I can't help but get it. If I had more money it would be even worse.i like to add my books to my wishlist on Amazon from those I find here.It make it easier to get them in the future.
I have 410 books on my Nook, 15 not read.. including some pre-orders... I like to read a book the day I buy it.. I also like to read it in one sitting..makes for many long nites..
I have over 4000 unread books and I read anywhere from 1-3books daily. It's mostly kindle and smashword's fault with all those .99 cent sales and freebies. I realize that I will never be able read them all in my lifetime, but I will die trying. LOL!!
Melanie: Readers like you amaze me. Faced with the daunting task of reading 4,000 books you just soldier on, trudging through rain, wind and snow to keep reading and probably continually acquiring. A woman after my own bookaholic heart.I too like to read my newly acquired books first almost guaranteeing those 100 unread books (a number growing slowly and steadily)on my Kindle will probably be buried with me for future generations to dig up and try to dissect the life of a 21st century bookaholic.
About 90. I keep meaning to take time to make this list shorter but then I find another book that I just HAVE TO read now. I am fully admitting my addiction. I blame the girls from Totally Booked Blog & Natasha.
Judy: that is the great thing about having an ereader and a long vacation. I can carry my backlog of ebooks with me and zip through several of them.
My temperament limits the size of my collection. If I have too many unread books my "book belly" gets full and I can't look at new books until I get rid of some. It is like trying to go grocery shopping right after you've gone out to dinner; none of the food looks good.

I look at my fully loaded, but seemingly uninteresting and unread Kindle book carousel and I immediately start scavaging reviews, friends "To Reads", recommendations to find something more interesting. And I buy another book and, of course, read the newer one first. But rarely is it as good as I thought it would be and I'm sure some unread book sitting on my Kindle is probably so much better. I just can't stop myself!!

So I've slowed down on that part and got to reading more. Plus I have about 800 books on my wishlist for my on-line library.
170+ on Kindle, I don't even know how many on Nook- I am obcessed with reading and getting free books. I. Have. A. Problem. LOL!

I let the books sit and "marinate" on my list for a while. If I go back a month or two later and the book no longer sounds interesting, then I remove it.
One thing that has been causing my book count to go up recently is BookGorilla. I signed up about two weeks ago for their daily newsletter and I have been adding at least one free book a day to my Kindle app. That daily email seems to sidestep the thought of how many books I already have, and I don't know why.

To my fellow bookaholics. I just wanted you to know that I just clicked open one of my MANY unread Kindle books, Sea of Tranquility, and it is amazingly good. I can't believe I didn't read it before. Maybe we all need to vow to read at least one unread book already sitting on our Kindle before we buy another one!!!

Sign up to book gorilla too! Don’t know if anyone here uses the ereaderiq site? But there you can use it to track your amazon wishlist of ebooks, so it will notify you if the price drops. It’s really handy if there is a book you want but it’s too expensive to buy at the time, this site lets you know when it does drop. Sometimes the drop in price is temporary and you might miss out if you don’t check amazon often but this site means you’re more likey to snap the books up at low price because it notifies you sttraight away.
Ereaderiq also tells you about freebies and where you can find cheap books.
Saved me lots of money on books in my wishlist.
