What Are you Reading?
I'm currently reading The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland. The audiobook is really good, and I can't put it down! Such a powerful and positive story on a horrific event.
I'm also currently reading Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts for a staff book group, and I'm still in the middle of chapter 2, I think, but it's fun so far.
Ninth House is for my other book group. It's okay, but not grabbing me yet. It's narrated by two different narrators, which is interesting.
And of course I'm also reading The Apothecary's Garden for our BOM and I'm really enjoying it!

I just finished Trailer Park Trickster, the second book in David R. Slayton’s Adam Binder books. The first book is White Trash Warlock. I read it back in September. Now I’ll need to patiently (not) await the next one.
These are urban fantasies, but also (very) rural fantasies that mixed up my expectations for stories in this genre, but in a good way. These may be the author’s first books, but they were near-perfect for my taste. They may appeal to others who also liked The Last Sun and The Hanged Man.
Warning: These books are better described as a serial than a series. Each closes with unresolved situations. Possibly best for readers who dislike cliffhangers to wait until the series is complete. :)

For those who are interested, I updated this list of "vintage gay mysteries" and now there are quite a few books on there. In some cases I listed the entire series, but some of them I only listed the first book. I also linked to the Gunn article and included his book on the list. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Thank you

In this review:
https://www.theguardian.com/books/202... there is a sentence (bold from me) that I don't understand.
Known as one of the funniest people on trans Twitter, she ((Shon Faye)) recently tweeted in response to a troll “I am a tran for a living”, a sentiment I can relate to. Most trans people I know feel to some degree like they are forced to be a tran for a living. With it comes the expectation that you be ready and willing, at any time, to hold your ground on any element of “the transgender issue” anyone might decide to quiz you about.
Does the sentence mean that being trans has become a kind of full time job? Thank you in advance for any help.

I had to look this up! This is the answer to the question "what do you do for a living?"
Does that help make it make sense?

You're welcome! For sure it's not complete. I was surprised at how many books he says are listed in his book on the subject! But it's a start with his top ten series and standalones.

Thank you, so my interpretation was right. I was unsure also because it's the first time that I see «tran» used instead of «trans».
I'm reading Arcane History, an alt-historical (WWI era) urban fantasy series with gay protagonists set in Toronto (found via Ebook Freebies — thanks, Teal). The series starts with The Magic Box. The covers are (IMO) kind of awful, but please don't let that put you off. They are intelligently written and likely of interest to those who've enjoyed Jordan L. Hawk's Widdershins series. (The first one is still on sale today at Amazon.) I'm reading book 2 now.

Alexis Hall's Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake
made it into the Cosmopolitan's list:

ETA: * Isn't it a bit crazy that the e-book costs $12.86 and the paperback can be had from $6.66?

I'm listening to Joel Leslie reading The Queer Principles of Kit Webb. Very entertaining.
I read Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake back in August. I'll never see those baking shows in the same light again. :)

You can buy it as e-book directly from the author or from the usual plattforms. All information and a lovely excerpt here:

Here 18 books to celebrate the week: https://lgbtqreads.com/2021/10/25/hap...?
I found the article because the site Bookriot, proposed by Jordan (thank you, Jordan!), has a weekly LGBTQ newsletter Our Queerest Shelves.
It's really very interesting, in fact too much interesting, you'd have a new list of books to be read every week. You can subscribe here:

Wow! That is a fantastic list!
Can’t wait to find this in my inbox when I get back to work tomorrow!

Here's a recommended reading list for gay fantasy! I immediately put Watchtower on my TBR list. Some of the others I know are good too!

I read A Marvellous Light last week. Loved it. The Last Sun/Tarot Sequence books and the Silver in the Wood books are favorites. A Taste of Honey somehow was pushed back in my TBR pile. I’m moving it forward.

Thank you, that's a great list!

Oh, I found it wonderful!

Also several of us would warmly recommend them, they are excellent. When I think of Joseph Hansen I'm always so sorry that he didn't get the recognition he deserved as he was alive.
That's great news! My library has only two of them in ebook right now. We used to have all of them and then they disappeared. We do still have most of the audiobooks though, and those are also really good!

The audiobooks are great.
I didn't realize that the ebooks went out of print again. When we first began reading them here I had that paperback omnibus with the teeny tiny print! Then we were excited to finally see them as ebooks. I just checked and that was back in 2013-14! It doesn't seem that long ago. Ebooks 1 & 2 were University of Wisconsin Press (2004) and 3 through 12 were Open Road Integrated Media (2013).

Yeah, it’s interesting that different companies published different books in the series. But not that odd, I guess.
I originally bought all the ebooks for our read back then. A couple of years ago I bought used copies of the paperbacks to match the one signed copy I ended up with when I couldn’t get the ebook for book two for a while. And now I have most of the audiobooks. :-D

Gosh, hard to believe it's coming up on 50 years.

Did anyone here read it? As usual with books I really loved, I'm a bit hesitant to buy it...
I've spent most of the year relistening to the entire Psycop series and I'm now in the middle of the 12th book Other Half and speeding through it. It's soooooo goooooodddd!!!!
I'm gonna be sad when it's over and there's no more Vic for awhile. lol.

I know, I hope the series never ends ;-).

I'm posting this because Alaa Abd El-Fattah, the Egyptian author of the first quoted book You Have Not Yet Been Defeated: Selected Writings 2011-2019, has been condemned to 5 years in prison for crimes of opinions. He had been held without charges since 2019, denied also access to books. There are 60 000 political prisoners in Egypt. Still, every nation is making business as usual with the dictator Al-Sisi.

Yes! I was going to mention Jordan’s latest! I’ve not read it yet, but will as soon as I can! I just finished rereading the entire Psycop series and then read Other Half. I don’t know how she does it, but I love every book, though there are favorites, of course. Lol

Here an interesting article about her feminism: Christine de Pizan was not a ‘good feminist.’ Can we still learn from her?
