LOL. Well, maybe not as long as six months but a lot longer than it would take many of you to read them, anyways. And I still have 9 Dave Brandstetter books to read for our challenge. Hey, Ame, why don't you join us reading those?! That'll keep you busy reading for a while. :-)

I wish I could read faster. I have so many books to read I feel like I'll never get to any of them. And I just keep buying more.

Spook Squad was/is definitely a drop everything and read this, book. Sorry Dave Brandtstetter. Lol. I left off in chapter five last night when I got Spook Squad.

Anyway, too much talking and not enough reading going on. Gotta run.

Oh I read that many many moons ago. There was an interesting back story about Leavitt being sued for this story and prevented the book from being published in UK for years.

I loved the book, though recently when I re-read it, the story seemed even sadder. Even though it wasn't really set in the Spanish Civil war, I've always thought that war was such a tragic and romantic setting for gay romance.

Out TBR lists are very similar. : ) I have Spook Squad Capture & Surrender Unhinge the Universe Bridge Water, My Cowboy Heart, and Provoked queued up and I've read and very much enjoyed the others on your list. Well, Unhinge the Universe is actually back-queued, because although I loved Skybound I really need to be in a state (very emotionally secure) to read WWII-era.

I finished Glitterland last night, and loved it. I loved the exuberance of Ash's attraction for Darian, how it was the color in his otherwise cautious, gray world.

Antonella | 11565 comments I got Unhinge the Universe on paper and started to jump forward and hated myself. Maybe we should start a therapy group...

And I just feel overwhelmed if I think about Spook Squad, which of course I'm going to buy, because in the last few days I've bought so many books.

I have to look into it, what kind of books are they? Besides mm which I'm guessing they are.

Ame | 1744 comments I feel like I'm always talking about money LOL but I am wondering with books like Spook Squad which I'll probably end up buying from the author her/himself because Amazon has it for double the price... at least for me and I know this is some kind of tax deal.... and I wonder.... who gets the difference?

I buy a book for 11.28 which in US sells for 6, 99.... I know it's not the author who gets difference. .. is it my government? ?

Oh sh** this is my second tantrum today about our tax laws and unfair taxing... comdoms are crazy expensive which I think is the most foolish thinking.

11.28 in what currency? What country are you from? No, the author does not get the difference. Authors get more if you buy direct from their publishers or Smashwords or in JCP's case, her site.

Interestingly enough, here is what JCP wrote in her August 30th email (I'm a subscriber):

Common Question
Several readers have asked if it's more profitable for me to sell direct through JCP Books. For authors going through a publisher, they do earn a higher royalty for direct sales. However, my business model isn't the same as an author going through a publisher. For me, due to fees, taxes and other aspects of selling, it's about the same if you buy at these first three online venues, particularly if you use the Amazon link in this email, which earns an affiliate fee! Buy where it is convenient for you.

I guess it is taxes or VAT, that is the case in Norway at least, so neither the author nor the publisher nor Amazon get the difference, but your government. Norway has an agreement with Amazon and other big sellers, but maybe not with all the smaller less known ones, which is why you don't pay VAT or tax when you buy from them.

Like Smaswords?

I guessed it was the government. I just find it very frustrating having to pay double because of my government for an ebook that they have nothing to do with, ebook that isn't even published here and therefore takes nothing away from authors, publishers, etc here.

It's just so easy to 1 click at Amazon therefore I buy mostly there.

I also use Amazon mostly, because it is so easy, and even with the VAT the books are still way cheaper than in Norway, both paper and e-books. Not to mention the fact I would never find the things I am after here :)

I have Spook Squad (PsyCop, #7) by Jordan Castillo Price Capture & Surrender (Market Garden #5) by L.A. Witt Among the Living (PsyCop, #1) by Jordan Castillo Price. If you buy it in print, book one is coupled with book two, which is Criss Cross and the print title for both is: Partners.

I hope that makes sense. JCP is an amazing author and this is one of my favorite series in MM. Right now, reading Spook Squad, I'm loving the little things that happen between Vic and Jacob. The little things being that they can communicate through looks with others in the room, rather than words because they know each other so well. The fact that Jacob is ready with a towel for Vic when he gets out of the shower wet, and still chilled from his earlier experience. As Vic says, he could have dried himself off better by himself, but the experience was better when Jacob did it. So sweet. lol.

I like the fact that there's no guessing or wondering what's going to come between them or if they'll find a way to get back together. It's nice to have that on occasion.

OMG! So true! I just hit 80% finished this morning and it's killing me that I had to come to work today instead of staying home to finish the book. Of course, if I had stayed home, I'd be finished by now and wondering what to do with myself. I likely wouldn't be able to read a different book or write something. I dunno.

I'm thinking after I finish book 7, I'm going to find the time to start from the beginning and reread them all straight through. I feel like there are a few things I've forgotten that are a bit important in book 7. But you know, it'll be an awesomely fun reread and I'm already looking forward to it, if I can find the time, between all the other books I promised myself I'd read this month.

I just bought and started listening to Come unto Yellow Sands and I don't know if it's because I just finished Kit&Moriarity and Kevin the narrator there was beyond excellent but I kind of have a hard time focusing in Paul's narration.

Maybe it just takes time to get used to him... I don't know.... this also happened when with Ghost were Yellow Socks.... it took awhile to get into the narration but when I did I loved it.

Still think Susan Erickson and Kevin R. Free and Chris Patton are just the most excellent narrators I've heard.

message 1486: by Charming (new)

Charming (charming_euphemism) Spook Squad is so, so good. I don't know how JCP does it. How does the seventh book in a series manage to be among the best? I've got to give Camp Hell the edge for the very best of the series, but Spook Squad and GhosTV are right there with it.

I can't think of another series that has managed this. Usually by this time it all feels routine and repetitive. Forced cameos by everyone we've met in the series, some manufactured drama in the relationship, and a retread plot are what I expect by now.

Ah, that's interesting, thanks. I tend to stick with Amazon, because I'm in the UK and buying direct from publishers or authors usually means I have to buy in dollars, so a) I don't know exactly how much I'm spending, and b) I get charged a fee on my credit card for a foreign currency transaction. Just small, but if I bought all my books that way it would add up!

Just finished Spook Squad today. Ah, Vic, still love him. I could have used more Vic and Jacob in the earlier part of the story, but that aside it was great.

Now back to Scrap Metal by Harper Fox, which I'd started but interrupted for Spook Squad. Very rude I know! Then after that The Haunted Heart I think. :)
