SOLVED. YA Novel About First Child Astronaut [s]

Trying to remember the title of a YA novel for a co-worker's kid.

It was about a young boy who becomes the first child astronaut. He communicates from the space shuttle via the on board radio with a boy in Africa. They have a cultural mis-understanding of each other over the radio and the whole world is listening.
