I have finished Solace in Scandal - Kimberly Dean, was a enticing read. Now I think I will read Black Swan Rising - Lee Carroll.

Bring It, Omnibus Edition
, by Seeley James. It's a fast, twisty globetrotting adventure with its most cynical and paranoid parts ripped from recent headlines. It features an unusual female lead and an engaging male hero-knight in somewhat-tarnished armor, lots of action and enough shifty goings-on to keep dedicated puzzle-hounds busy. Four stars.Read the full review.
Now reading Swag , 1970s Elmore Leonard.
I'm reading a classic at the moment:
by Horace McCoy.Just finished:
, by Raymond Chandler. Review to follow.
Just Finised Patient One by Leonard Goldberg.
Great book. Couldn't put it out of my hand.Link to the book and review:

I absolutely love They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?. That one just really got to me.

Sorrow Bound, by David Mark is in front of me right now. It's British crime. Unrelated to mystery, crime and thrillers -- this week I've also finished The Elementals, by Michael McDowell and In the Wolf's Mouth: A Novel, by Adam Foulds. I'm a genre hopper.

LOL . My copy of his [book:Inferno became a doorstop in my guest room. He was okay at first, and then it got repetitive. I know a lot of people really love his stuff, but it just isn't my thing.

I made it as far as page 30, before i threw it in the rubbish in disgust. Quite possibly the worst 30 pages i can remember reading in living memory. It was so badly written & implausible i felt compelled to write the least flattering review I've ever written. Would NEVER bother to read another DB novel, it was that bad.
I totally agree the last Dan Brown novel I tried to read was Angels and Demons it started off good but then it just went totally downhill I skipped quite a few pages to get to the end and was still disappointed by the ending, I won't read any more of his books.
I just finished Scared Stiff. This was a great book. The humor in it is a good change of pace for a mystery. I was giggling several times throughout the book. This is a new author for me and honestly I will have to read the others in this series.
Arlene wrote: "I totally agree the last Dan Brown novel I tried to read was Angels and Demons it started off good but then it just went totally downhill I skipped quite a few pages to get to the end and was still..."That was the only one I read as well. I didn't feel the need to read any more of his novels after that.
I really liked Angels & Demons - there was only one part that I found completely stupid towards the end. I have struggled to make a start on The Da Vinci Code though.
I just finished Once a Spy and am moving on to The Hangman's Knot. The very idea of a lynching is stomach-churning and as much as I'd like to deny it or say it was in the past or somehow look away from it, there's really no ignoring the horror of it all and what we still carry with us.
I've started The Cold Cold Ground: A Detective Sean Duffy Novel, by Adrian McKinty. This one is set in the 1980s in Northern Ireland.

Over the weekend I finished up Don't Ever Look Back: A MysteryDaniel Friedman which was both funny and sad as Buck Schatz looks back over his long career in the Memphis police.
Coyote Wind Peter Bowen which was an interesting look at Montana and the Metis people.
Death of an Artist: A Mystery Kate Wilhelm which was more about guilt and revenge than solving a crime.
All pretty good mysteries but not your straight who-dunnits.

As I continue the quest to read the Bosch...I have not found a dud. These books deliver the goods. My only gig is almost every story have the evil cop at the source of the problem. Bosch hates IA but seems to do most of thier work for them.
I finished
Swag
, by Elmore Leonard. This 1976 chronicle of the exploits of a couple of low-life stickup men is the third of Leonard's Detroit-based crime novels, and while some parts of the trademark Leonard style appear here, memorable characters and plotting unfortunately aren't among them. Two stars.Read the full review here.
Now reading Indigo Slam .
I finished "The Alienist" by Caleb Carr, and "Murder as a Fine Art" by David Morrell. I like them both and gave them 4 stars.

I liked The Alienist too.

Just finished The Cold Cold Ground: A Detective Sean Duffy Novel by Adrian McKinty, set in 1981 Northern Ireland. Absolutely excellent. I have been getting up at 5 a.m. for some reason, and between then and 7 a.m. at my house is the most productive reading time I have!
A while back, doing research, I came across a different sort of novel by Reginald Hill. It's a WWI novel about deserters living underground among the trenches, but it still involves crime. I found it a solid story and an interesting read, so I thought I'd share it: No Man's Land
.Makes me want to read more of him.
I finished Hen of the Baskervilles by Donna Andrews. The town of Caerphilly, Virginia is hosting a fair and Meg Langslow - blacksmith, wife, mother of toddler twins, and hobbyist farmer - is assistant director. Amidst preparations for opening day a vandal targets the fair and valuable chickens are stolen, a prize-worthy pumpkin is smashed, and a beautiful quilt is sullied. Soon afterward a straying husband is shot dead. The Caerphilly cops reluctantly team up with neighboring Clay cops to solve the crime and, of course, Meg helps investigate as well. I enjoyed this humorous, cozy mystery and learned something about heirloom species of animals as well. A good light read.
I'm currently reading a mix of books, one Police drama, one SciFi and one classic; Nemesis, Wool Omnibus Edition and The Ladies’ Paradise
I'm enjoying it very much, Charlotte. I picked it up on a bit of a whim, some of the people in another book group had recommended. It's well-written, moves smoothly and is quite interesting. Worth checking out. I hope it ends as well as it's started.
I started Cold Granite by Stuart MacBride. This is my first book by this author. It is pretty good so far.
Jeff wrote: "I am now reading Black Out by my favorite author Lisa Unger and also trying The English Girl by Daniel Silva."Great book..Black Out..:)
