Paige and Deb I agree. When I started the Prey series I was hooked immediately. It's been a couple of years since I read Sandford but he's excellent.

I wrote a review of Mad River a while back. I believe what keeps Sandford's series (Flowers or Davenport) going where other series become the same ol' thing is that he concentrates on the bad guys. Each one is unique and realistic.

I would agree with this. I like how some of the bad guys are really evil & scary and how some are seemingly "normal" people who do bad things. He really mixes it up.

I also enjoying knowing who the bad guys are throughout the book and waiting to see how they will finally cross paths with Lucas or Virgil.

I've only read one Sandford book, but really enjoyed it. Owen Laukkanen has written a couple of books that remind me a lot of Sandford. Also set in Minnesota and also spending a lot of time getting to know the bad guys, who are usually regular folk who cross the line and keep drifting further and further away.

I finished The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz, a humorous mystery about a family run private detective agency. Izzy Spellman and her kooky family run surveillance, bugging, and info collection for their job AND on each other. Pretty fun.

Thanks for the recommendation... I've added him to my list. I do enjoy books set in Minnesota, I've started listening to the Cork O'Conner series by William Kent Krueger and while they aren't as good as Sandford's books they are easy listening while I'm doing other things.

I'm about a fifth of the way through by George Eliot and well into my third Travis McGee mystery, . I didn't think the second was quite as good as the first, but I liked the characters and how easily John D. MacDonald built the tension and developed relationships. Enjoying my foray into the world of Travis McGee very much.

Even though I was pretty sure who the killer was. On to Snipe Hunt. I'll at least try #2 in the series.

I just finished Cover Story by Gerry Boyle. I thought it was really good. It follows former New York Times reporter Jack McMorrow from Maine, where he now resides, back to NYC and he is quickly caught up in a murder investigation. I'm now reading The Sound and the Furry by Spencer Quinn. Can't wait to see what Chet gets himself into this time.

Just finished Bloody Mary by J.A. Konrath - a serial killer tale with equal parts humour and suspense.

I finished Her Last Breath by Linda Castillo, set in the Amish region of Ohio. An Amish man and two of his children are killed in a hit and run incident and Chief of Police Kate
Burkholder (formerly Amish) investigates. I enjoyed the book very much up until the end which I thought was overly contrived and not believable. I also wish the issue of Daniel Lapp's death (killed by Kate when she was 14) would get resolved already. It comes up in every book and in this story feels like it's tacked on just for form's sake.

Correct, any order in the Travis McGee series works as well as any other.

Finished Gone Girl yesterday. Interesting finish. Can't really wrap my head around it, yet. Why? Just didn't see it ending that way! I kind of feel like I was riding a horse at full speed, when, unbeknownst to the rider, me, the horse stopped on a dime! Yes, I had a horse named Merlin & I sooo do know what that feels like!!!!!! Currently I'm reading The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver. Deaver is one of my favorite authors and I've read and enjoyed several other books in his Lincoln Rhyme series. So far The Bone Collector does not disappoint. Before starting The Bone Collector I started reading, but didn't finish, Shutter Island. I found that book depressing and boring so I cast it aside. Life is too short to read books you don't like.

I didn't think to ask if Jodi Picoult is considered a Mystery/Thriller. When I see reviews with words like: "can't help but devour every page." & "dramatic page-turner, & "Picoult understands the power of love to protect AND to destroy us." & the clincher, "Picoult writes with unassuming brilliance." (STEPHEN KING)! I tend to grab and read! Any thoughts, comments?

My reading marathon has come to an end since I returned to work (glad broken arm is healed/sorry I can't spend all afternoon curled up with a good book) still I have managed to finish up a few books. The Cuckoo's Calling, very good, The First Wave learned a lot about WWII in north Africa, and Crashed quirky but entertaining.

I am still working once book. I am 27% done and am finding it very interesting.

I'm currently reading a classic mystery, The Moonstone, by Wilkie Collins. I'm amazed by how wry and witty it is! I expected the mystery to be interesting, which it is, but I didn't expect to be chuckling so much while reading it.
