Hello, my name is Bernardo Arcos, I'm a biochemistry student, living in Mexico City. I've joined the group because I really like to read historical fiction novels. I believe it is really upsetting to live only a short blink of the full history of mankind, and that's where history comes to improve our existance, by letting us live things that happened much before we were born.

In after-war Germany, I found it a tabu to talk about the Third Reich. In high-school/college, history teachers started three times with the old Greeks and stopped every time around 1900. Therefore, I knew very little about the Third Reich and WWII (other than what I learned from the famous Holocaust series and a few war movies), and have just started to read a number of related books...........While living in Germany, I never knew that there were any, as I never saw any on display in bookstores.
I am interested in all history but am concentrating right now on Third Reich and WWII.
I have spent my adult life living in Canada and Germany, and also traveling the U.S. In 1996, my husband and I settled down on a country property in Utah where we now live with 30 cats and 2 dogs.

We do have a Holocaust thread where discussions can take place but there is absolutely no self promotion on the History Book Club site. There are also Second World War folders and threads but once again on those threads there is no self promotion or advertising.
This was a painful period for many folks Lilo so I imagine even for the German people that sometimes they must have felt better letting sleeping dogs lie so that might have been the reason that they did not bring up that period in class - maybe they also felt it was not a particular time in history that they were neither happy nor maybe even proud of. Sometimes with disassociation - the painful events can be alleviated and folks move on. I imagine that many of the German people also suffered a great deal too and many lost family too as did the surviving family members of the Holocaust.

hi, my name is yomna. I am 20 years old. My love for history started when i started university. My major is architecture, and as i read about the various history of buildings, cities, architects, and alot of rulers, i discovered i love to know about the history, especially the history of my country, Egypt, and anywhere else. I just love the story behind how everything came to be, how a building came to be known, how a person's journey went, and how their lives were like, but i never know any names of books or authors i should check out, thats why i joined the group, to know more about history and get recommendations.

I have always loved to read and my love for History began in high school when an excellent teacher encouraged me to read historical works. Hello all,My name is Erre. I'm from the Netherlands, finishing my bachelor's degree in Political History. The reason I joined is for me to discover new interesting books to read - not only books to enrich my academic knowledge, but also my general education. So if you could recommend something to a twentysomething year old guy from Europe who is interested in topics/book genres ranging from Utopian Literature to Magic Realism, don't hesitate please. :)
I am not quite sure whether or not I have introduced myself to this group, though I have been prompted to a number of times. I apologize if I am delinquent from doing so as I have been very involved in reading Gotham: A History of New York to 1898 with somewhat limited time to read.Nonetheless I will be wrapping that one up shortly and timing is right for me to jump in on Blood of Tyrants should a copy be afforded for me.

In 2004 and after 22-years I retired from the Air Force. I have spent the last 8-years as a civil service employee. In my last 7 years in the Air Force I lived in Turkey (2-years) and Germany (3-years). With my time overseas I developed a strong interest in Turkish/Ottoman history and European history. While we have traveled throughout Italy, Germany, France, and England we believe Turkey is the best of all places to visit. Additionally, in 2007 my good friend, wpark, turned me onto Revolutionary War Era books. My first book from this era was Adams vs Jefferson: the tumultuous election of 1800. In approximately 7-years since taking on that first book, I have read 35 additional books from this era and have started to expand my American History readings.

Hello all! I'm Hope, I am currently in high-school. History to me is an obsession. I will typically obsess over the small trivial facts that fascinate me. I am the person at school who people always come to when they need information for projects, or to settle an argument over a historical event. I am also known to dress like historical figures on a daily basis. The historical events/time periods that I am currently into are; the American Revolutionary period and aftermath, the Russian revolution, and the Italian Renaissance. I am defiantly looking to expand my historical knowledge particularly in European history.
