Favorites as of book 1 are Hunger Games and Divergent. I do plan reading the 5th wave series.
If there any recommendations that would be great. Can't wait for all the talk of a favorite genre have a good day.

Like most of you here, my favorite series are The Hunger Games and Divergent. I also like the Legend series, Matched, and The Giver.
I previously read The Maze Runner series, and I'm now reading the prequel to it, The Kill Order.
I'm planning on reading Delirium afterwards.
I'll pretty much read anything, I am sort of addicted to reading.
I'll appreciate any recommendations, thank you!

I am 32, from Austria and totally into science fiction, fantasy, humor and science topics and always trying to widen my range.

Sounds really interesting. I am always looking for something new to read. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hello, my name is Maha. I just joined!
I do read, not a lot, but an okay amount.
And, I find myself very interested in this particular genre, not that I’m not open to reading anything.
But, I feel like I want to learn more about dystopian works. I read 1984, and Animal Farm so far. I found that I really like the style, and ideas of both works.
So, I was wondering if you guys can help me onto which dystopian book I should read next! Since I’m just beginning towards this genre, it would be better to ask someone who has an idea on the good books to read.
Thks :)

We by Yevgeny Zamyatin is another classic dystopian novel on par with the 2 you mentioned . Another you cant go wrong with is a lesser known novel Mockingbird by Walter Tevis . Also for something a little more contemporary I strongly suggest The Maddadam Trilogy by Margaret Atwood . https://www.amazon.com/MADDADDAM-TRIL...

Have any of you read the Uglies series? What did you think?

1. They feature incredibly creative and unique worlds and as as many ways to imagine possible futures. Chaotic, deserted, vivid, crowded, aseptic, filthy. May these futures be ruled by nature, animals, warped masterminds, creatures or governments.
2. There's different form of "truths" in dystopias, to which we can relate. Some previous fictional works anticipated notable changes in our lives, in our way of consuming, of doing politics, of shaping society. On other levels, dystopias can also carry deep truths and feelings to their core, reminding us how some of those truths and feelings are immutable, no matter times or context.
3. I like to experience through reading how much ideas and values like bravery, combativeness, brotherhood, hope and beauty can take on its full meaning in worlds that doesn't feature any sign of shelter.
First dystopia ever read : Huxley's Brave New World Brave New World
Last dystopia read : Vandermeer's Borne
Next want-to-read dystopia : I'd like to have some advices.
Note : among other types of fictional works, I appreciate anticipation and sci-fi, poetic, bizarre or metaphorical, but have a real lack of interest in fantasy.
Looking forward to dig here and find some good stuff.

I want to share the joy I feel now that I have finished the last edit of the rewrite, of the draft of the edit of... You get the picture ...of my novel, 'The Brotherhood of Necessity', a horrifying dystopian thriller. Think 1984 on Speed. I'll get it onto Amazon Kindle in a week or less. I gave a copy to a friend, and he ended up reading it in the bowels of a ferry (he said, "You know the ones that tip over and drown everyone") travelling around the Solomon Islands, passing each page along to the person next to him (his son), who sent it to the next (a student of mine) and then to our school's Chaplain at the end of the line). Apparently he had to tell them to back off because he wasn't as fast a reader as them, and they were hammering him for more. Hah! There is a great sense of pride one gets when a novel has the legs to get people really immersed.

Hello
My name is Erin and I have been reading apocalyptic and dystopian fiction for around 5 years now.
I recently finished The Handmaid's Tale (1986) and absolutely loved it. One of the best books I have ever read. I am starting the series soon. I am now reading the Margaret Atwater novel, Orxy and Crake.
Glad to be here and looking forward to discussing books with your all.

I am from Southern Brazil, but I live in DC, where I am currently finishing a PhD in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies at Georgetown. I love nature and animals, and I explore them deeply in my writings - even though I talk about artificial intelligence, and the role of the virtual world. :)

It all started around the age of 16 when I began to question a lot of the goings on around me, reading conspiracy theories, and educating myself on everything I heard or read. My interest was peaked and I have been hooked since! So much so I wrote my own book about it!
The fact that dystopian realities rest so close to the edge of being a reality is honestly what gets me, and that is one of the reasons we all like them so much, right? :)
If you're looking for something new to read, go check out my book and enjoy!

My name is Derek Cressman. I've published two non-fiction books before, and read dystopian books when I was younger.
I've now just written my first novel, a post-Orwellian dystopian story about an inquisitive woman goes through the dreary motions of life in a not too distant Los Angeles that has lost its vivacity. Vera escapes her hollow world through a deep search within herself to avoid a deluge of commercial information. She gradually develops the capacity for independent thought, falls in love, and must then avoid a seductive technology that could render her catatonic.
There's a giveaway going for it now, that folks can check out if you like here https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...
Curious to hear what folks think, and to see posts on other new dystopian efforts.
Best,
Derek

I'm a huge book nerd but I also love to write plays, go to drama class, take photos, SLEEP! Oh how I would wish for a sleep right now! I also love spending time with family and friends, and SHOPPING!
Glad to be a part of a group with a bunch of dystopian nerds.

I'm happy to have found this group, as I would love to discuss and read some more of dystopian novels.
Generally I love reading all genre all the way from science-fiction and fantasy to non-fiction philosophy. Concerning dystopian fiction, I've read my share and among my favourite are the works of M. Atwood, 1984, the Road, and so on. I've also enjoyed the Hunger games trilogy, however I wasn't quite convinced by the Divergent series, so I never finished reading it.
I'm looking forward to sharing opinions and experiences with all of you.
Lovely to meet you,
-P
