The Elite

Who do you think is the traitor?
I don't think it's Aspen. That would be too easy for the story line, to make him a bad guy. I have no idea who the traitor might be, but Gavril is a good guess. Though I think it's someone else from the guard, some character we'll maybe be introduced to in the 3rd book.

More for "The Elite" but we're kinda discussing things that happen in both books, smtg like "the road so far" thingy :)
I agree with Eml I suspect its Gavril.
i'm split between Aspen (i know you don't want me to say that) and Gavril. i feel like there's been an bit of interesting detail that we're drawn to about him that makes me wonder, however i'm not sure. i keep trying to relate his character to others in similar stories to see if i'm over reaching and i don't think that we are. anyway, there's a lot of good stuff that we'll get to in The One for sure.

In The Elite they talk about it. America guesses when there are two rebel attacks by different sides.
Eml wrote: "Don't say Aspen. I know everyone loves the idea of him becoming a rebel, but it doesn't make much sense to me. Unless America becomes one, then he might follow her, but I don't see him running off ..."I do not want it to be Aspen, but he would have a lot of anger and resentment and good motive to do it. He also got promoted quite quickly to his position ... hmmmmm
I just don't think it's him. He's good at his job and he likes it. He also loves Illea. Being a six he was also raised to blend into the background, not stand out.
Gavril or dare I say it but I think it's the Queen I think she had been abused to long and it is her way of striking back. Plus remember she is from the South!

Even in The Selection, I thought it was weird how America gave so much detail to the pin and I thought it was a little Hunger-Games-ish like Plutarch but I think it's Gavril.

I agree it is not Aspen but I do believe it is the Queen *remember she is from the south* I believe she was planted in the selection to become queen!
I had a hunch it was America's dad. He seemed so interested in the secret library. Plus, he had the banned book at home.
hmm thats an interesting thought...her father...maybe its her father who dies in the next book and America then finds out that he was a part of the resistance. I certainly think that would add weight to her Maxon vs. Aspen relationship. Not to mention the glee the King would experience if HE found that out...he could go after America because she was raised by a traitor.
Any chance it's the king? I know, sounds crazy. BUT those journals. They basically discuss manipulating everyone and tricking people into following the regency regardless of the morality. He yells at Maxon for not realizing the importance of those journals. I got the feeling Clarkson used them as a guide book for being an awful tyrannical monarch.
I feel like the king thrives off the attacks and the war, he keeps everyone under his thumb through fear.
WHERE exactly did he go when he was supposed to be in New Asia. He certainly wasn't where he told everyone he was.
So I guess my theory is that there IS NO TRAITOR. Just the King, tricking everyone into stagnation and submission.
Maybe too much Hunger Games, but I think it's a combo of people. Gavril, her Dad, any of her maids, and possibly Aspen. Or at least Aspen has the personality to be a rebel and could turn in the 3rd book.
The king being the traitor is a very interesting theory. Very. I'm not sure if he's the leader, but I wonder how much he allows to happen. I don't think America's dad is a traitor. America would have noticed and I don't think they would have gone through so much hardship. What if America and Maxon get taken by the rebels? The North sounds like they are trying to bring back the U.S. I can't imagine Cass is going to make this an anti US book.
...Aspen already said he doesn't want to portray Illea. He likes being a guard, which means he likes protecting the royal family. I honestly don't think it's him at all.
That's okay I feel like it could be Kriss...There is something fishy about her that I just can't get over lol.
I feel like Aspen is hiding something, but I don't know what. There are some weird things about him that just make me think he's being shady about something. Maybe he's not a rebel spy, maybe it's something else, but I always suspected that.Even though Aspen says he likes his job he still doesn't like Maxon or the royal family or the whole government of Illea . He hates it yet chooses to protect it, if he were helping the rebels maybe that would help his conscience about the whole thing. Then again, even though I don't like the guy, I doubt he'd risk America's safety like that, but maybe he figured she'd be highly protected.
Maybe the king is just as mean to the Queen and she has kept it hidden too. That would make it easier for her to be the Traitor. Although I'm really leaning toward Aspen
I think it's Aspen although I hate to say it. Here's my reasoning before you all get pissy with me: I think it's because we all know aspen hates the government and especially hates the prince and the king. I think he saw being on the inside as the perfect opportunity to do something about it. He might be, like, secretly spying on America.
I also thought about it being Celeste for a min but she's to "prissy" to be involved with that stuff. To petty. Idk that's just my thoughts and opinions. :)
I'm not being pissy I just think it's an unoriginal plot twist. Though that fits Cass' writing style so maybe it'll happen. Then everyone can have a legitimate reason to hate Aspen.
Amanda wrote: "I had a hunch it was America's dad. He seemed so interested in the secret library. Plus, he had the banned book at home."Yeah that's what I thought!
America's father, it was sort of weird how she told him about the secret library. I wouldn't be surprised if he was informing the rebels, and somehow had a hand in America being selected.
YES YES!! I'm 100% that i think its America's dad.spoilers ahead!
- he named her America after the 'old country' where thay had freedom and all that. It's basically a Rebel Name! (yes I just made that up! :p)
- he gave her those old books to read about the 'old country' where they had Halloween...which does not exist in Illea
-she told him about the diaries. & during the party he was no where to be found
- then the rebels attacked the castle and there was books strewn all over...bc they were looking for the diary!!!!!
-when America er...ran away from the castle, and hid in the tree she saw a 'rebel' holding a stack of books!!!
- & then that rebel didn't even try and harm her in anyway which is strange bc she is part of what the rebels hate the most; the Seletion!!
- instead the rebel curtsied!! really?!?
Maybe bc she was under strict instructions that America must not be harmed bc she is the daughter of the leader of the rebels!!!!!!
These add up to alot. I honestly think its her dad.
Jessica wrote: "I agree with Eml I suspect its Gavril."Me too. I think it is Gavril. I HIGHLY doubt it would be Maxon, Aspen, America, or Kriss for various reasons. Kriss- no because Maxon probably would have figured it out by now. Maxon- no because he is so loyal to his country and the Selection. America- no because that would change the whole plot of the story. Aspen- no because he is not that kind of a guy- he wouldn't do that to America. Clarkson/the King- maybe. I just sense it from his personality.
i agree that it is Gavril because i think Kiera spends to much time describing the pin when ever America sees it on him also i just want to add that i dont think its the king even if hes very mean and everything but what kind of leader will destroy his home injure his soldiers and scare his people it just doesnt add up ALSO it could be America's dad but i doubt it he seem harmless enough and he doesnt have anything against the royal family at least thats what we know JUST SAYING
I also think that IF there was a rebel within the palace it would be Gavril. I am even doubting that there won't be because Kiera has more important things (I think) that she needs to focus on when writing the One.
Yeah, I agree Cindy. It is already too packed- you can't fit an elephant in a sports car! BUT if Kiera managed to get the elephant in the sports car I think the potential rebels would be Gavril or America's father. I doubt anyone else would be a rebel.

I was thinking Gavril. I'm wondering about the pin he always wears. Everytime America sees him she points it out. I also thought his reaction to Clarkson, Maxon and America fighting was a little strange. I think he would be someone helping the North.
