NOS4A2 by Joe Hill/May 2013 - PLEASE USE SPOILER TAGS
Such a great book! I was lucky enough to get an arc through work. I can hardly wait till others are reading it too....I am bursting to discuss it!!!!!
I have American Gods at home. Can't wait to read that one as well.
Kyle~Special K~Rebel Leader~ wrote: "I have American Gods at home. Can't wait to read that one as well."One of my favourite novels. I read it once a year.
Neverwhere is by far my favourite novel of his. I love every character, and that's something that seldom happens with me. All three are great reads.
I really thought American Gods was just OK. Neverwhere, now that one is a classic in my book. :)I received the arc for NOS4A2 yesterday. I'm not going to be able to read it for a while though. :(
I'm in for this buddy read :) My copy is on hold at the library and should be ready either today or tomorrow.
I ordered my copy yesterday and it will be in my hands tomorrow. I plan on putting down whatever else I am reading and devouring it immediately.
Me too, Amy. I'm reading a Tom Picarilli book right now that is just OK. Not even sure if I want to finish it. Ugh, I have hit a bad reading streak lately.
Me, too. But, I think it's due to my job. I will Buddy Read this with you. Maybe it will be the book that gets me out of my reading funk. I love your profile pic, btw. A Mona Lisa cell phone pic, perfect for you, but where is the bathroom mirror? LOL
I'm fully up for a buddy read of NOS4A2 At first I had some hesitation. I hate to pay over 9.99 for kindle, since it is so much profit built in, but the book is long and meaty and the interviews are intriquing. Gonna read the sample just to be sure.
Amy wrote: " I love your profile pic, btw. A Mona Lisa cell phone pic, perfect for you, but where is the bathroom mirror? LOL ..."Oh, I cropped out the toilet stalls. Being the Moana Lisa I have to stay classy.
I just got this one this morning! Can't wait to start it. I'm going to try to finish The Passage first.
Maxine wrote: "I just got this one this morning! Can't wait to start it. I'm going to try to finish The Passage first."Loved the passage, even the meaty middle parts, but, I didn't like The Twelve at all. Pre-ordered it but then couldn't finish it. Just my tastes, maybe not yours.

LOL

It was exactly the opposite for me, Mark. :)
Tressa wrote: "Oh, I cropped out the toilet stalls. Being the Moana Lisa I have to stay classy"Indeed.
I wish I'd have paid the extra $3.99 and gotten mine today, still would have been cheaper than going to the bookstore and paying full price.
I loved The Passage. The Twelve was not as good, but I didn't hate it.
Once I finish my current book this one is next in line as soon as I download it.I loved The Passage and The Twelve. No pacing issues for me in either book.
Gatorman wrote: "I loved The Passage and The Twelve. No pacing issues for me in either book."You're an ornery reader. That's all I have to say about that.
Always with the comment...At least we finally agree on another book. I only gave Born To Bleed 3 stars as well. Somewhat disappointing.
I saw that but didn't want to call attention to the fact that we agreed. I enjoyed it but of course it was no Summer I Died. But what is?
I've been reading this all afternoon. Great so far. I only stopped because I was reading outside and got cold plus now I'm craving hot chocolate, so I decided to check my email before coming back to reading. I also had to fix the edition i'm reading on GR. Unfortunately the ebook edition goes only by Kindle page numbering which isn't matching up with the Nook. Hazard of Amazon buying GR?
Reading NOS4A2 now, and loving it. Tressa, I saw your influences and knew you had to be my age: Fear Street, Are You Afraid Of The Dark...classics...
Just started on Joe Hill myself, loving Horns at the moment, really want to pick up NOS4A2 when I'm done, too! Excited to check out Heart Shaped Box and Twentieth Century Ghosts, too.
Brian wrote: "Reading NOS4A2 now, and loving it. Tressa, I saw your influences and knew you had to be my age: Fear Street, Are You Afraid Of The Dark...classics..."Definitely not me!
Question: did anyone figure out what the title of the book, NOS4A2 meant before they read it? Not me. (Confession: if you say you did, I may privately think you're being dishonest.) Maybe there are minds out there who figured it out, and I am as dumb as a rock.
When I first saw the title, I thought, WTH? But it took a few seconds to realize what it means. I always enjoyed that game show about guessing vanity plates. Even now I get a kick out of it when I'm driving. And only people who are familiar with this word would get it.
Amy, I'm currently reading it. I'm not too far into it because I've had a lot on my plate at home. Hoping to dive into it in the next few days and finish it over the weekend. Had to drive to Cullman last night with the hubby to buy a fishing boat.
I'm dumb as a rock, is my conclusion. In my defense, I didn't try to sound it out. In my prosecution, I kept thinking it sounded like a series of elements from the periodic table.
LOL, Mark. Sometimes our brains immediately know what to do in a situation, sometimes they don't. I will not get some of the simplest things, then I'm shocked and dismayed that my brain failed me. But then the opposite happens and it will reassure me that the neurons are firing as they should be. I think it has more to do with the mindset we're in at the moment.

I'm a little bit addicted to self-deprecation. It's actually one of the better of my vices.
If you're dumb as a rock, Mark, so am I and everyone else. I agree with Amy: we all have our duh! moments.
The title took me awhile to get too. I did eventually. I like it. It's different.
Not sure when I'll get to it though. And not sure I want to spend $15 on an ebook.

That was my problem too. So much of an ebook is profit. I know, there's a million people to be paid, but,... What convinced me was knowing I would like it, reading the sample, and the assurance it was a good product. Besides, everybody's doing it. (um, or reading it)
Been reading this a lot the last couple of days. Part of that is my new job doesn't start until Monday and this book is hard to put down. I'm about 1/3 of the way through the ebook. I bought the ebook because I always bought the limited edition and that isn't out until June. This way I can read it right away and only have one book on the shelf later.Enjoying this book immensely but not getting the same emotional impact as Horns. So far it's a 4 star book. The easter eggs scattered about the book are fun. There is only one thing that bothers me so far and I'm not quite sure if it's really a spoiler but I'll mark it because it's a character you don't meet right away:(view spoiler)

Since we're not all reading this "together," should I ask everyone to use spoiler tags? Or do we expect people not to pop in here until they've finished the book?
