message 101: by Rachel (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rachel | 1434 comments I'm still a little over 2/3 of the way done. I started a new job yesterday so I'm a bit busier now. May try to read some tonight.

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments Don't you just hate it when work gets in the way of your reading time?

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Damn life has to get in the way of a good book.

message 104: by Rachel (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rachel | 1434 comments Especially since last week I spent most of my time sitting on my porch in beautiful weather reading this book.

message 105: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to break down and buy it. I'll start later tonight.

message 106: by J.W. (new) - rated it 3 stars

J.W. Griebel (jengri) Starting this today. Really looking forward to it.

message 107: by [deleted user] (new)

Yea! I'm not the only one starting today. =)

message 108: by Mark (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mark Matthews (xmarkm) | 269 comments I started it like a lion, but now I'm puttering along like a Lamb. Still love it.

message 109: by J.W. (new) - rated it 3 stars

J.W. Griebel (jengri) About 50 pages in. Hoping the first two narratives tie in with things later on, and aren't just scenes.

Only critique--The Brat is an obnoxious name for a character.

message 110: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm about 14%. I like it better than Hill's other books so far. Loved the prologue.
The Brat is a bit obnoxious. I hope he uses it sparingly.

message 111: by [deleted user] (new)

At 25% - had to stop reading because I'm at work now... Stupid work. Lol. It's been awhile since I read a book I cannot wait to get back to. And though I loved Horns - this is the first book of Hill's that I know I would like even if I didn't know who daddy was. So good -- glad I finally gave in and bought it.

message 112: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17457 comments I'm about 170 pages in. I am loving it so far.
Especially (view spoiler). *shudder*

message 113: by Amy (new) - added it

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments I kept picturing 30 Days of Night when I read that part.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Later the teeth are described in more terrifying detail.

Since her nickname was mentioned, I'm going to admit that I was put off by Vic's name throughout the book. I know it sounds silly, but I kept picturing a young boy and then an older man as she aged. I never could get comfortable with it.

message 115: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17457 comments Actually, I'm having that problem too, Tressa!

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments LOL. It is a relief to know I'm not the only one because it seems so silly. I never had that problem reading about Charlie the girl in Seed.

message 117: by J.W. (new) - rated it 3 stars

J.W. Griebel (jengri) Every time he says "The Brat" I picture this little prick:

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments OMG, Jesse. I wouldn't have gotten past the first two chapters if this is what I pictured. I remember this little a-hole.

J.W. Griebel (jengri) Tressa wrote: "OMG, Jesse. I wouldn't have gotten past the first two chapters if this is what I pictured. I remember this little a-hole."

hahaha I'm struggling!

message 120: by Rachel (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rachel | 1434 comments I'm about 100 pages from the end. Was going to try to finish it tonight...but now I'm in a lousy mood and I don't want that affecting my review of the book. This book has slowed down some and I get impatient when I'm cranky.

message 121: by [deleted user] (new)

Vic isn't much better to be honest... I like the name Victoria. Vicki. I think I could like Vic. But between The Brat and Vic... yeah.

message 122: by Rachel (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rachel | 1434 comments Sometimes I think male writers give strong female characters male sounding names so they can relate better...

Rachel--I'm 39% into the book, so I read your spoiler. (view spoiler)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Rachel wrote: "I'm about 100 pages from the end. Was going to try to finish it tonight...but now I'm in a lousy mood and I don't want that affecting my review of the book. This book has slowed down some and I get..."

Why are you in a rotten mood? Hope things are OK.

message 125: by Ctgt (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ctgt | 765 comments This was my first Hill book and I thought it was fantastic. I have Horns and HSB on my kindle but haven't read them yet. I did pick up on the King references and I thought it had a similar vibe to some of his early books.

This isn't really a spoiler but I'll tag it anyway, once I got the (view spoiler) in my head I couldn't shake it.

As for the ending (view spoiler). And I loved (view spoiler)

message 126: by Rachel (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rachel | 1434 comments OK, I just got a little spoiler tag happy and ruined the ending for myself. Good going, Rachel. I'm still finishing the book though...It's not the destination, it's the journey.

message 127: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17457 comments Rachel, oh no!

message 128: by Rachel (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rachel | 1434 comments for the record, I already saw the second spoiler coming.

message 129: by Ctgt (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ctgt | 765 comments Sorry Rachel.

message 130: by Rachel (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rachel | 1434 comments Totally not your fault at all. I clicked on Kimberly's spoiler because it was in response to mine and then went on auto pilot. My fault. It's all good.

message 131: by Ctgt (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ctgt | 765 comments Yeah....but it still blows.

message 132: by Amy (new) - added it

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments Mr. Burns! LOL
I think it fits, actually.

Oh no--see what I started! :(

message 135: by [deleted user] (new)

54% - Hill sure has created a truly despicable villain, hasn't he?

(view spoiler)

message 136: by Amy (new) - added it

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments Are you referring to Bing or Manx?

message 137: by Amy (new) - added it

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments Just read your spoiler. They are both vile, but I thought Bing was absolutely disgusting.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I knew Charlie reminded me of someone, and it niggled in the back of my head the whole time I was reading the book. It was Mr. Burns!

I hated (view spoiler)

message 139: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol. Manx. But both. I hate both.

message 140: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17457 comments At my last workplace they called Me Charlie. I had no problem with it. :)
I'm scared to look at any of these spoilers yet.

message 141: by [deleted user] (new)

I like the name Charlie for a girl. There's just something about Vic (the character and the name) that I am picturing the toughest looking 'broad' in a biker bar. The type that can rough you up rougher than any man in the place. I don't really like her. It's almost like Hill wrote for a male character and then decided to make it a female instead. Which might be sexist of me but it is what it is.

message 142: by Amy (new) - added it

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments I pictured Vic as a lanky, tattooed, kind of white-trashy, drug-addict.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I pictured this woman from Triangle, a kind of greasy-haired, sweaty, rode-hard-and-put-up-wet kind of woman:

message 144: by Amy (new) - added it

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments Yes, except thinner and covered with tatts.

I really liked that movie, btw.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments That's a good movie.

message 146: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17457 comments I admire the artistry in tats, but I'm a bit freaked out at the tats that Vic has. WOW that's a lot. :)

message 147: by Amy (new) - added it

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments I don't recall the description of her tatts, just that she had a lot.

message 148: by [deleted user] (new)

For me it isn't so much Vic's looks, or her tattoos, but her behavior that makes it hard for me to like her. And it would be the same if she was a he. And it doesn't have to do with culture or class. It's her personality that I don't like.

message 149: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17457 comments I thought it said she had full sleeves and both legs.

message 150: by [deleted user] (new)

She definitely has sleeves. There are at least some on her legs. And I just read a part that mentioned she did get the tattoo on her chest of the engine part.

I like sleeves - but the chest tattoo (what it is of) is a bit much for me.
