I read a book about a space shuttle going to Mars. There is a doctor on board. They will be traveling for several months to get there. Before they reach Mars there is a disaster and it appears that they won't make it to Mars and back so they turn around to come back to Earth. There is a virus discovered that they believe may have come from space. In order to survive and all make it back to earth, the doctor puts everyone but herself in a medically induced coma and the majority of the energy to the space shuttle is turned down/off for the few months until they arrive back to earth. In the end it's discovered that the virus was planted from someone on earth and it was all a conspiracy. This is not a normal sci-fi with aliens or anything like that, more a space adventure. Is anyone familiar with this book and what its name is?

Hi Felicia--I've moved your thread down to Unsolved since that is where you will have more people checking it out.

I don't know what your book is, but it sounds interesting.

I've read this! I just looked through my science fiction books on GR and none of them fit. So evidently I haven't put the book on my GR list, or possible it is in one of the Nebula anthologies. I'll keep looking.

Andy | 2124 comments This bears some resemblance to "The Secret of Life" by Paul McAuley, but the trip to Mars is a relatively small part of that book.

Cheryl (cherylllr) This sounds familiar to me, too. Tess Gerritson's name comes to mind - I know I did read one SF book with some sort of medical crisis by her. Be sure to let us know if you figure it out, or bump this every month or two so more people see it!

And Andy's book is at this link: The Secret of Life.

The Secret of Life sounds good - but unfortunately not this book. :-(

Nope. :-(

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Tess Gerritson, as Cheryl suggested, has a book that somewhat fits the description
Gravity Gravity by Tess Gerritsen

Magda | 14 comments I don't know about a book, but it sounds a lot like certain tv show: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defying_...
If you'll find your book let me know :) I'm curious
