Ashley (ashleymegan) wow really? Admittedly, it wasn't as good as everyone said it was *cough, like perks of being a wallflower, cough* but i thought it was quite a nice read.

Equine Dragon | 83 comments @jodi girl no you are NOT alone. It's awful. People know this but are ummmm....how to put this in a G rated fashion.....lonely. Yeah ok lonely (wink). I also really want to get this off my chest. I have always lied about this so I would not be shunned but I HATED 1984. I thought it was stupid and too depressing and I couldn't get past what's-his-name (you expect me to remember their names.....really) frigging ulcer on his leg. I was like you need a vascular specialist STAT.

message 53: by Arwen (new)

Arwen i hated the:
immortals series by alyson nöel
Twilight
Anne of Green Gables
sorry they are just so badly boring and dull.

Tom Krug (thomas_krug) | 22 comments I hated Beloved by Toni Morrison. It was too long-winded for me and I had to put it down.

I forced myself to finish Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

message 55: by Anupriya (new)

Anupriya I'll agree with that for Hobbit. IT IS EXTREMELY B-O-R-I-N-G. LOTR is comparatively better.

lol...too soft, huh? Ok...I didn't hate those books. I guess I just couldn't see why everyone else LOVED them. Let's see....I couldn't stand Lord of the Flies or pretty much anything by Edgar Allen Poe. They make me cringe. Better??

message 57: by Jason (new)

Jason Purdy | 32 comments The Davinci Code and Eragon were both awful. Too many words for the sake of words.

message 58: by Bianca (new)

Bianca (authorintheaddict) | 2 comments The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Everyone I've ever known who has read this book RAVES about it. I've had countless recommendations and heard endless praises about it, and seeing as it's been turned into a movie. I decided to give it a go when I found a copy for only $9.

Money absolutely wasted.

I don't think I even got halfway through the book. Every few days I pick it up and try to get into it, but I cry out of boredom. I can't even remember half of what I've read because it's just an endless stream of words about absolutely nothing. The GREAT Gatsby? More like The Wildly Mediocre Gatsby.

I adore F. Scott, and while I will probably try to persevere through the whole book so I can say I at least really tried, the thought of it makes me so angry. I find it an insult to literature.

message 59: by Zak (new)

Zak | 1 comments The Hunger Games - it was alright but not as good as everyone was making out. Oh and the other two books were kind of average, I saw the twists coming and realized at the end of the book that I wasn't emotionally invested in any of the characters.

(Eldest is my favourite Inheritance book- I didn't think much of Eragon or Inheritance though.)

message 60: by [deleted user] (new)

I love brisingir and inheritance. Eldest was kinda boring in the beginning

I read it recently too, because of the film and the fact that it's lauded as a classic. But yeah, I read it and was rather nonplussed. I didn't hate it as much as you seem to lol, but I didn't see what was supposed to be so amazing about it.

message 62: by Iris (new)

Iris | 27 comments Now I'm having second thoughts about reading The Great Gatsby! Maybe I should anyway just so I can tell everyone how overrated it is.

Robert Spake (ManofYesterday) | 61 comments Iris wrote: "Now I'm having second thoughts about reading The Great Gatsby! Maybe I should anyway just so I can tell everyone how overrated it is."

I still liked it. I just didn't think it was mind-blowing or anything. I mean, sometimes when people say things are a classic you read it and you can see why. Other times you just can't understand...

It's not that long anyway so it doesn't take a great amount of time to read.

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually stop reading a book if I think it's uninteresting.
Everyone I know raves about a book called sisters keeper. I read the first few chapters and I was bored same thing with a book called the historian

I have never heard of anyone saying they disliked Poe. You have piqued my curiosity, could you explain why?

As for books I hate, I absolutely cannot stand Great Expectations or Jane Eyre, both of these classics make me want to bang my head on a wall and whimper.
For modern dislike, I would have to say The Marriage Plot and The Fifty Shades series both made me cringe.

I read The Catcher in the Rye when i was young. Like 10th grade, so 15 yrs old. I loved it then.

I tried to read it again because it had been so long, but I just couldn't do it. I didn't get it anymore. I agree that Holden etc were insufferable. Maybe I got it the first time because I was be 15 and fully involved in my own teen angst.

Lauren | 72 comments All of the 50 shades books and the first two Twilight books...I have to force myself to read the last ones at some point for the author's sake.

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't like the Evemore series or House of Night series anymore because mostly they copied Twilight vampires with being sexy and stuff. I started hating the twilight saga after the movies ended. But I'm still a fan, just not a hardcore fan anymore. I hate how vampire books are turning into twilight now. Now the vampires are hot and stuff. Ugh, ticks me off. And I hate when books become way more popular because of the movie coming out. I hate when fans of books go crazy when someone says something bad about a series like twilight fans...

Haha, I'm sorry you had to do that to yourself. You know how you have to read the whole series that you hate. Ugh. Now I'm having second thoughts on the twilight saga series now...now I'm not a twil-hard but a anti-twilight/twilighter fan. I both like and hate the series. :)

Kat | 84 comments Bre wrote: "I don't like the Evemore series or House of Night series anymore because mostly they copied Twilight vampires with being sexy and stuff. I started hating the twilight saga after the movies ended. B..."

I really hate to throw a wrench in your line of thinking, but all vampire books today are not in fact "copying twilight." The idea of vampire being sexy and integrating with humans has been around for many decades. Prime example would be Anne Rice. If you have ever read any of her works, all the vampires are beautiful. It's basically how they prey on humans: attraction.
Not to mention television shows like Buffy and Angel that depict vampies who are in fact having relationships with humans.
The idea of vampires being "sexy and stuff" is not a new one. Meyer was just able to capitalize upon it because her series involves a younger woman and that was also her audience. She was not the first to portray vampires in this way, just one of the more popular ones because of her wide audience.

message 71: by Cara Isa (new)

Cara Isa (isabelas) | 2 comments I really hated The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. True as it was that we were assigned to read this book for school, that didn't make me dislike it. I just didn't enjoy it as much and I read it twice actually but it didn't grow on me. A lot of people love this book though but it wasn't for me.

Isabelle (izzie5525) The Harry Potter books. I know, that seems crazy of me. But I just didnt like the authors style of writing and it was too slow for me. And with all the hype about the books, when I read the first book I was very disappointed. I have read almost all the books and seen all the movies and I now movies are rarely the same as books or as good/better but based on the first couple books I have read and the movies I saw, I dont think I will ever really like Harry Potter. I gave the books 3 stars though. Ive never given a book lower than 2.

message 76: by Kat (new)

Kat (itskatco) LOTR, Looking For Alaska, Paper Towns. I'm sorry, they just bored me to death. :(

message 77: by Kirra (new)

Kirra | 12 comments The Hunger Games. The idea was excellent, but the books were poorly written and extremely unrealistic. I have a lot of reasons for my dislike of the books, but that literally goes on for pages. I also dislike the fandom. A lot (not all) of people who love the books are people who never read so they don't really know about the quality. I've heard people brag about how brutal and violent the books are. They're not particularly violent at all. As a person who reads a lot of action/thriller books, I can vouch for that. Also a better example of the Hunger Games is Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. That came before the Hunger Games and is far more realistic and brutal/violent (If you go for that sort of thing). It also has a movie under the same title.

message 78: by Kim (new)

Kim Graham (kimgraham36) | 24 comments Cannot STAND The Notebook! One of the rare times I actually much preferred a movie to a book. Also, not a fan of the 50 Shades series. Not understanding the hype with that.

The Night Circus was definitely intriguing as a stand alone. I enjoyed the concepts behind it and the overall themes but it wasn't quite what I expected in terms of action.

message 87: by Kat (new)

Kat | 84 comments Emily wrote: "I really did not like Divergent. Everyone seems to love it but I couldn't stand Tris and their society made no sense at all."

Divergent was good until the end. Conversely, Insurgent was terrible until the ending.
Tris is definitely not my fav main character, she is not very admirable or even likeable to me, but the ideas of her society are quite fascinating if you enjoy a dystopian era.

Lauren | 72 comments Oh another book that I really couldnt stand to read while I was reading... The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton Although now that I look back at it I'm glad that I read it because it makes a good reference... where does that sit? I love this series overall but the individual books CAN get a bit tedious. I just want to know who is going to rule them all in the end! Plus all the characters I like keep dying. So sad.

message 100: by Gabriella (new)

Gabriella | 23 comments I really hated Matched by Ally Condie. I couldn't get into the first book at all and I hated how Ky was sort of an outcast, but by the end of the book it seemed he was everyone's best friend the whole time.
