Paula (pauldajo) I finished Proven Guilty last night and liked it. I think that Butcher is getting too verbose in some of his descriptions and explanations. That happens to many authors as their series' mature. Now a friend at work disagrees. He really likes detailed descriptions during the battle scenes. Me, not so much!

I am now reading White Night.

When I'm through with that book, it's on to Darkness Everlasting (Guardians of Eternity, #3) by Alexandra Ivy and Midnight Awakening (Midnight Breed, #3) by Lara Adrian .

I get what you're saying about the Harry Potter book. I really enjoy the later novels in the series, but maybe that's because they're a bit more grown up and a bit darker?

Harry Potter or Harry Dresden? It's funny Chelsea - you can describe both series as getting darker in later books :)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 34 comments lol I mean harry potter lol. Im not liking these books i dont see why shes richer than the queen of England :/

message 813: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I finished Finders Keepers by Linnea Sinclair a sci-fi romance. It was pretty good. I'm now reading Mortal Sins (World of the Lupi, #5) by Eileen Wilks

message 814: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading The Lightning Thief. It wasn't bad. My biggest complaint was the universe. I just didn't like the descriptions of the underworld and how it functioned. I try not to judge a children's book the same way I would an adult or YA book, so I shrugged my shoulders and went on reading. I think that kids 12 and under would like the story and universe and there were elements in the book that I liked too.

Haha! Yes, you can.

I just finished reading Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10) by Charlaine Harris last night. Meh. While reading it, I enjoyed it, but after the fact I realized nothing really happened. Mostly it touched on on-going issues/themes, but didn't progress or resolve them. It was worth reading to keep up with the series, but definitely not the same level as Dead to the World (Sookie Stackhouse, #4) by Charlaine Harris or Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5) by Charlaine Harris .

I have Dead in the Family but haven't felt like reading it for some odd reason. Usually I'm sitting on the edge of my seat for Sookie. It's too bad to hear that it wasn't all that wonderful Chelsea.

It's funny, because I liked it while reading -- familiar characters that you care about, etc. -- but after I'm wishing more had happened. I will say, though, there is a bit of interesting foreshadowing that makes me curious about the next one.

I loved Hourglass. Without spoiling anything, I really liked the way Claudia Gray maintained relationship obstacles and conflict while progressing the Evernight series characters.

This series became a favorite for me right away. The relationship between Bianca & Lucas is realistic in that it proceeds down the logical road. They even do things that people who love each other do!

message 823: by Heather B (new)

Heather B (heatherbenson) Ya I agree, I'm almost finished it now, I don't think I'm going to like having to wait for the next one by the was the book is going now.

Not to be deterred, I purchased Magic on the Storm (Allie Beckstrom, #4) by Devon Monk , Inhuman Resources (OSI, #3) by Jes Battis and Ghosts & Echoes by Lyn Benedict . They will be next in line!

message 829: by Julia (new)

Julia | 119 comments Current book is YA. No paranormal, for a change, but it does have a bit of mystery I'm liking All Unquiet Things All Unquiet Things by Anna Jarzab .
Last book is historical romance and meta-fiction and the sixth book and last book in the series The Endless Forest. I don't recommend it. The Endless Forest (Wilderness, #6) by Sara Donati
Before that I read two Skeleton Man by Joseph Bruchac and The Return of Skeleton Man by Joseph Bruchac that I liked a lot. These are only my second and third books by him. I'm curious about books by Joseph Bruchac that are for adults or YA.

You've definitely been reading some good books! I LOVED Changes (The Dresden Files, #12) by Jim Butcher , and the Nightside series is a favorite of mine. Though the most recent wasn't quite as good as others in the series.

message 837: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) Yes. I loved Changes. I really like Greens imagination in the Nightside books. the details in the world are almost more interesting (at least as)as the plot and John.

In changes, sheesh, was that a cliffhanger or what--and come on with the Murph thing!

I think I've put that book on several challenges now and never gotten to it. It's good to hear you're loving it - I'll have to see if I can actually read it soon instead of just plan on reading it.

message 850: by Julia (last edited May 24, 2010 09:41AM) (new)

Julia | 119 comments I'm glad to have finished a book I've owned and has been on my TBR whatever for a bit.

With some distance between me and it, "loved it," is probably too strong. It's worth reading, but it feels like I've read many similar books...
Off the top of my head: Singer of Souls, Little Grrl Lost (Newford Book 20), The Little Country, Life On The Border, War for the Oaksand one I'm planning to read: Except the Queen.

Gee, isn't that damning with faint praise? I say I didn't love it, then compare to my favorite writers/ books...

And, Shanon it was also a challenge of mine on the UF group here on Goodreads: read four books of your choosing from April 1- June 1. It was the last and final book in that challenge.
