Lianne (eclecticreading) | 76 comments So, what's everyone reading at the moment? =)

I've started reading the following: an ARC of Michelle de Kretser's Questions of Travel, Soren Kierkegaard's Prefaces: Light Reading for Certain Classes as the Occasion May Require, by Nicolaus Notabene: A Work and Hawkeye, Vol. 1: My Life As A Weapon (fiiiinally got my hands on this comic, yay!)

Samantha (samanyaaron) | 146 comments Blood Rights by Kirsten Painter. Quite good do far and I have fallen in love with the cover.

message 3: by Katie (new)

Katie Kempski (darthphasma) | 120 comments More people need to comment on this! I need suggestions! :D

I have an unhealthy addiction to buying used books, so I am currently reading:
The Girl in the Polka Dot Dress
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
Shadow Hunter
The Geography of Bliss: One Grump's Search for the Happiest Places in the World
And the Mountains Echoed
Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster
and, for the seventh time,
Jane Eyre.

I may or many not have a problem...
I need some sci-fi and fantasy suggestions, though! :D Anyone have any?

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 76 comments Katie wrote: "I need some sci-fi and fantasy suggestions, though! :D Anyone have any?"

I could go on and on with some recs lol, is there any particular genre or theme in sci-fi and/or fantasy that you're into or that you've read and want to read something similar from? =) (Btw, been meaning to re-read Jane Eyre xD)

I've started reading Lauren Graham's
Someday, Someday, Maybe, Jose Fuentecilla's Fighting from a Distance: How Filipino Exiles Helped Topple a Dictator and...well, I'm still sort of staring at my to-read pile. I'm hankering for a sci-fi or fantasy novel to read myself, lol

message 5: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I'm reading Stephen King's Under the Dome. It's very good so far.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Just started Wool by Hugh Howey for the Sword and Laser book club. Interesting read, so far. Also about to start the Thrawn trilogy from Star Wars. Any Star Wars fiction fans out there?

message 7: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 76 comments I am currently reading Beth Hoffman's Looking for Me and David Anthony Durham's The Sacred Band, the last volume in his Acacia trilogy (about time I got around to it, lol =))

message 8: by Alina (new)

Alina Pickett | 9 comments I'm reading the Fallen trilogy right now, and a Sherlock Holmes book :) both are SUPER good!!

message 9: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (libraryofkayla) I just finished Veronika Decides To Die and now I'm about to start The History of Love.

I'd really recommend VDtD, some of the writing is beautiful and it has a really vivid atmosphere.

message 10: by Christine (new)

Christine (moyashiii) | 2 comments I'm starting the first book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, finally!! Giving in and seeing what all the hype is about. Also planning on rereading an old favourite series, the Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling.

I'm starting A Game of Thrones too! I've heard SO MUCH about it, I feel like I can't avoid it anymore. ;)

Alina Pickett | 9 comments Just finished The Fault in Our Stars SO GOOD!!!

message 15: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (girlwhowrites) I'm about to reread Days of Blood and Starlight and then The Fault in Our Stars, because I have never heard one bad thing said about that book :)

message 16: by Keshia (last edited Jun 15, 2013 07:18AM) (new)

Keshia (keshialynn13) I am currently reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I basically fell in love with the movie and just wanted to see how good the book was as well, so far it's been great. Then I have two more books, and then I'll finally start on this month's book club book.

message 17: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (chobii) | 4 comments I'm currently reading Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde which is a dystopian satire. Basically people are stratified into different classes based on what colours they are able to see. It's hilarious but serious at the same time. Seriously an interesting read.

message 18: by Alina (new)

Alina Pickett | 9 comments Have any of you read Birthmarked? I started it but can't really get interested!

message 19: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (girlwhowrites) Alina, I read Birthmarked, and found it dreadfully predictable and terribly frustrating. The world building wasn't particularly strong, either. However, there are some interesting ideas.

message 20: by Alina (new)

Alina Pickett | 9 comments Thank you! :) I might come back to it later, but there are other books I would like to read more.

message 21: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie | 7 comments I'm reading Shatter Me and I love it!

message 22: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 76 comments I am currently reading Elizabeth Joy Arnold's The Book of Secrets and am slowly getting through Balzac's Cousin Bette as part of me getting through some French classics & a reading challenge (though, to be honest, I'm not too crazy about the narration style).

message 23: by Aimuni (new)

Aimuni (summainjuria) I'm currently reading Father Figure. It's taking me so long to finish this book. 3 months if I'm not wrong and it's only 300+ pages! Just pages away from finishing it though :)

message 24: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (persephone17) I'm currently reading The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa. If you like paranormal/dystopian, I highly suggest this series. @Jessica, I really want to read Shades of Grey, sounds interesting and Priscilla from thereadables RAVED about it. ^_^

message 25: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 19 comments I just finished Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. I"m in the middle of Maze Runner and I'm trying to finish off World War Z

message 26: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (girlwhowrites) I just finished the last Lying Game novel - a solid ending to that series. And I'm about 25% into the first Gallagher Girls novel - I really enjoyed Ally Carter's Heist Society books, and figured I'd give the GG books a go :)

message 27: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Arnold Katie wrote: "Christine wrote: "I'm starting the first book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, finally!! Giving in and seeing what all the hype is about. Also planning on rereading an old favourite series, the ..."

I read quite a bit of Game of Thrones, but didn't get a chance to continue, but it's very good! I just got the box set for my birthday, so I'll go back to reading it soon. Have you watched any of the series? :)

message 28: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Arnold I have to read all my school setwork books for an upcoming test, so I just finished Cry, the Beloved Country (which was surprisingly good) and started Jane Eyre :)

message 29: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 76 comments I couldn't quite figure out what to read next after finishing Guy de Maupassant's Bel Ami (I enjoyed reading this title!) so I'm currently reading 5 different books xP

- Philip H Pfatteicher's Journey Into the Heart of God: Living the Liturgical Year (slowly getting through this ARC)
- Katharine Britton's Little Island (this novel's moving pretty slowly IMO but I'm determined to finish this ARC)
- Matt Fraction's Hawkeye, Vol. 2: Little Hits (loving this! I love the art and how he writes Hawkeye)
- Ian Thornton's The Great & Calamitous Tale of Johan Thoms: How One Man Scorched the Twentieth Century But Didn't Mean To (just started this ARC)
- David Whitaker's Doctor Who And The Crusaders

Prakriti Singh | 14 comments I am currently reading Middlesex , it seems amazing till now. I would highly recommend it .

message 31: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (talking_romance) I just started Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. It reminds me of the Passion Study trilogy by Maria V. Snyder which my sister and I loved. I also just finished Resistance by Owen Sheers and Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

message 32: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (persephone17) Right now I'm reading Atonement for school; after I finish I plan on starting Divergent and A Game of Thrones.

That's good to hear! I've only read The Virgin Suicides by that author (amazing read, had me pondering quite a bit) but fellow book bloggers have been recommending his other works for some time now xD I hope to get around to them sometime soon! lol

Elizabeth wrote: "Right now I'm reading Atonement for school; after I finish I plan on starting Divergent and A Game of Thrones."

How are you finding Atonement? It's one of my top favourite novels =)

Alyssa wrote: "I just started Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. It reminds me of the Passion Study trilogy by Maria V. Snyder which my sister and I loved. I also just finished Resistance by Owen Sheers and Outlan..."

How did you find Owen Sheers' Resistance? I read it last year (after hearing it was adapted into a movie with Andrea Riseborough) and absolutely loved it (though I had to ponder on the ending for a bit, lol)

I started really getting into Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo and am loving it so far! A lot of the characters are pretty complex, I love it!

message 34: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (persephone17) I just finished it, I really enjoyed it! That ending though.....OMG the feelings. ;uuu;

message 35: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (talking_romance) Lianne,

I really liked Resistance. Sheers' premise was very interesting and believable (thanks to good research). The way each character was written made me really connect with them. Sarah's longing for her husband, Wolfram's desire to escape death, and Maggie's strength all seemed very realistic. While the ending did taking me a few reads to get my head around in the end I agreed with Sheers' choices.

My infatuation with history started with books like Summer of My German Soldier, and this in a very vague way reminded me of Greene's work. I liked the humanization of the German soldiers, and the wavering morality shown by Germans and British characters.

I didn't know it was made into a movie, but I like Andrea Riseborough, and the trailer makes it seem like it mostly follows the book. I'll have to check it out when I get some time.

Cynthia Caridad (cynthiacaridad) | 4 comments I just finished reading The Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. Right now I'm starting The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown.

message 37: by Lydia (new)

Lydia (lapetitelydia) | 94 comments I am currently reading World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War and I am enjoying it. I don't find it to be absolutely amazing, but it is a fun and interesting read. I like the social commentary of the book.

Same here, I really enjoyed the writing and the internal aspects of the character conflict. I normally don't read alternate history fiction but I really enjoyed this one.

I have yet to see the movie myself as well but I think it does look like a faithful adaptation too (I only found out about it, and subsequently the book, because Tom Wlaschiha starred in it playing Albrecht).

Elizabeth wrote: "I just finished it, I really enjoyed it! That ending though.....OMG the feelings. ;uuu;"

Yeah, that ending is quite a kick in the emotions ;_; I must've read this book several times now and it still provokes more or less the same reaction in me, lol

message 39: by Pip (new)

Pip (rakiura1) I'm currently being absolutely spoiled for choice. Loads of my favourite 'must read' authors published at the same time, so on my bedside table I've got:

Bertie's Guide to Life and Mothers (by my favourite, Alexander McCall Smith)

Disgrace (by Jussi Adler Olsen)

and...

Cuckoos Calling (by Robert Galbraith AKA J.K. Rowling - oooh can't wait!)

BUT what's drawing my attention away is A Storm of Swords (Blood and Gold), book III of Game of Thrones. I'm absolutely enthralled. It's been so long (since Harry Potter, I'd say) since I got so wrapped up in a book and engrossed in the twists and turns of the characters. Yep, I'm currently reading OFTEN. Haha.

message 40: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 19 comments I have a bunch of books that I need to finish like the last 20 pages, but got sucked into other things - whoops. I'm currently reading Hell Week by Rosemary Clement-Moore and Bone Quill by Carole and John Barrowman. Have The book Thief waiting for me at the library

message 41: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 76 comments I'm about 200 pages away from completing Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo (whoo-hoo!). Meanwhile, I've also started reading Robin Harris' Not for Turning: The Life of Margaret Thatcher and Alison MacLeod's Unexploded :)

message 42: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (persephone17) I'm reading Endangered, by Eliot Schrefer. It's such a great book; even though it's fiction, it feels like it's a true story. Highly recommend if you love action/thriller books, and also learning about different ape species. :)

message 43: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie | 7 comments I just finished several books. They are Beautiful Creatures, Will Grayson Will Grayson, Eleanor and Park, and City of Ashes. My favorite of these was definitely Eleanor and Park.

message 44: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 76 comments I am currently reading Jordi Punti's Lost Luggage: A Novel (quirky read, very intriguing), Peter Ackroyd's Tudors (just started the other day so I haven't read much so far) and Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle (hurray! :))

message 45: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (persephone17) Right now, I'm currently reading The Mockingbirds by Daisy Whitney. I'm about 100 pages in, and so far, so good. It's very much like reading a diary of the main character's thoughts. I also have Eleanor & Park and Where the Peacocks Sing: A Palace, a Prince, and the Search for Home on the shelf. I still need to read Howl's Moving Castle and The Ocean at the End of the Lane! O_O

message 46: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 19 comments I"m currently readingAllegiant , but it has to go back to the library today, so I may have to get it as an ebook so I can finish it.

I'm then going to finishThe Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism

Also, has anyone read Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson? I just finished it yesterday, and it was WONDERFUL. Highly recommend!

I love Eleanor and Park!
