R.A. Desilets | 375 comments Hah. I've been avoiding the topic until I got a bit into book two.

At no fault to the author: there were several, very noticeable typesetting issues in the first book and it kind of drove me crazy. They might have reprinted- because I got the first round of books. (Not arc)

Storyline was okay. It got really heavy with the science aspect of the book in the middle, which is fine- but it was slow going for me.

Second book is... Five times better than the first. A lot of progression, a lot of high stakes. Time is running out. Those kinds of things. I'm glad I stuck with the series (almost wasn't going to because of the pacing in the first one) but now I'm really glad that I did.

I'm only 100 pages in, so this opinion could change. But so far so good. ^_^

Rose I just finished book 1 and I thought it was great. I was a little worried about book 2 because frequently the second isn't as good. Glad to hear it was even better. Now I'll have to go and get it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Welcome to the group Rose. :)

I've been very slowly working my way through book 1 on audiobook (as in, I've been going at it for weeks). This is my third or fourth attempt to try to do this as an audiobook. I keep thinking that I can do it but my mind doesn't seem to want to hold focus, so I might switch back to print again, just to get the darn book finished.

Rose Hi Stacia, I've never tried an audiobook and to be honest I don't think it would work for me. I can only focus on one thing at a time so if I was listening, I couldn't do anything else other than just sit there. Even then I think my mind would start wandering. I would suggest reading it - it's interesting.

R.A. Desilets | 375 comments I realized that I never came back here. Heh. I have mixed feelings about the second book too. It's weird because the pacing was great, but then in the middle, it lost all forward momentum and gained it back for the end.

There was one part of book two that Wells glossed over that was pretty major and I almost missed it. He was too busy writing about the landscape changing and then something major happens. I literally almost didn't notice it because it was one sentence describing a major event.. Two sentences explaining the aftermath, then more landscape.

I would have cut back on the middle of the story. Beginning and end were great, but the greatness gets lost in the slow portion of the middle.

Rose I'm still going to have to read it. I'm too curious about what's going on. Maybe there won't be so much "kudzu" in the second book. I think Dan Wells has a thing for this plant

R.A. Desilets | 375 comments It's definitely a good progression of story - especially if you really liked the first one.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Going to bump this back from page 2, since the third book is coming out soon.

Angie (pinkindle) | 828 comments I finished the first book earlier this morning and really enjoyed it! Even though I only understand a bit about genetics, I loved how focused on the science this was! I put books 2 and 3 on hold when I was only halfway done! Can't wait to see what happens next. :D

Angie (pinkindle) | 828 comments I just finished last night, and I loved this series! The focus on science definitely held my interest and made me have to know more!

I was a bit disappointed in the end of Ruins (Partials Sequence, #3) by Dan Wells . I felt like they faced off with the final villain, and then it just ended there. None of my lingering questions were answered! I don't even know if they established peace and started to rebuild the world! The ending was way too open even for an open ending, since we don't get to see if the characters did what they set out to do. Kind of like Requiem (Delirium, #3) by Lauren Oliver .
