***THIS THREAD CONTAINS SPOILERS***
Word of God says that by the end of ASOIAF, a few more people will have sat on the throne, and George does have an idea for who will end up on it at the very end! Personally I hope to see Asha or Stannis up there (veeery wishful thinking for Asha, I know), and Sansa or Margaery too :)
But then, you can't ignore the fantasy plot - the wall coming down (literally or metaphorically), the white walkers, the dragons and the impending massive war... so even if someone does end up on the throne, will they have anyone left to rule?

There may not bean Iron Throne in the end. GRRM has hinted the ending will be "bittersweet". The world may be saved but, all main characters may be dead.

It doesn't matter what I want the prophecies point to Daenerys Targaryen
Dany as Queen Jon as King and Arya as hand and assassin of the realm.
Dany and Aegon marry, claim the iron throne. Tyrion will get Castery Rock and Sansa for his service to Dany. Winterfell falls to Rikon. Jon marries Val after the white walkers are defeated and becomes King Beyond the Wall. Arya and nymeria reunite to kill Freys and Boltons. For the life of me I do not understand this hatred for Daenerys or the belief that Aegon is a false prince.
I personally can't stand Danaerys. I'm really sick of her. she doesn't deserve to rule. I want to see a good person on the throne in the end. My vote goes to Jon Snow, thhe most honorable, decent and worthy of leadership.
I doubt it'd matter after the whole mess. But here is my theory.
Jon will die or something(I think he survives the known critical point) after leading the great battle vs the ice zombies.
Dany will also die.I mean come on,lots of people rooted for her at first but she's become quite unpopular. Her dragons will help but no throne for her,no.
Tyrion doesn't like it.He'll probably survive and be a wealthy lord whoring until he finds his ideal wife.
Jaime will fight once more, maybe on a dragon.Maybe save the world and become a king from a kingslayer. With Brienne at his side.
Aegon, too late for a serious contender. Sorry, lad. Probably dead.
Bran.No throne,just your cave.
Rickon,I think he'll survive and play a vital role.I mean he's a main character,a Stark that survived(?) and so for played no major role so he must do so in the end.Too young for a king though.
Varys is a eunuch.Next.
Sam is a black cloak. But hey,if there is nothing north of the Wall and it's also destroyed the vows are invalid and he could be king.King Sam ftw.
Lord Martell and the rest of the gang in the south could be kings but seriously who cares about them?
Same goes for the Greyjoy pirates...
Davos, the Regent of Rickon perhaps but no king.He wouldn't want it.
So far I think the best possible choices are a white cloak and a black cloak which is quite odd but seems logical in a way...

I think everybody will probably die...
if not, Tyrion hopefully
if not, Tyrion hopefully
I think it would be Jon Snow ruling together with Danaerys. Maybe they'll marry and be king and queen.
Going on the thought that he IS a Targarayen, I'd like to see Jon Snow. It would be nice to see someone come from that far, bastard child, to the Wall, possibly dead, then on the Iron Throne.
I believe that Jon should be on the Iron Throne with Ygritte as his queen or Arya as alone queen with Sansa or Gendry as her right hand
Forgot one. Arya. She will be my underdog.
Danaerys and Jon Snow. Though I am interested to see how Bran makes out in all of this.
Stannis is the one true king of Westeros. All usurpers must die.
Tyrion! That would be sick. But no, seriously, it's set up for Dany to be on the throne, but how sick would it be to see Bran on the throne with Usher and Rikon at his side??? First time in history of the Realm that Warg has lead Realm, right? :)
I see the Onion Knight as King on the Iron Throne. Jon Snow will never accept being King.
I think Daenerys would be the best choice. If not her then Stannis.
Tyrion Lannister. He is highborn, educated, very intelligent, brave, compassionate, strict when is needed, knows how to rule and also, and maybe more important, know how to play the game of thrones.
Dany no doubt is who I'd like see sit the throne, she has grown to not only be a good ruler but ruthless... Arya obviously is gonna be many faced assassin & take her revenge but I suspect Martin will throw in an assassination that will cause problems for her... I like the idea of john as king beyond the wall & Tyrion is too clever to die, he might be missing an ear along with the nose but he's usually 2 steps ahead of everyone else & seems to have Vaery's & cheesemonger who are the real movers in the 2 kingdoms... Sansa just bores me, I'm sure she will do something interesting at some point but her perspective brings no joy to read... And Jamie will turn out to be a character like Barriston after losing a hand & being humbled he will live to be a diff person fighting lefty hopefully, I like his character ruthless/maimed/as leader of kings guard...
There are quite a few combinations that would make me happy. I think my favorite would be Gendry and Arya on the Iron throne, due to Gendry's claim as Robert's bastard and everyone else being dead (which, let's face it, is pretty likely with Martin).
I'd also be happy with Dany on the throne, as long as she has a good advisor, like Tyrion or Jon Snow, either of whom I think would balance her out well.
Or, it may be that the whole system is going to die out. The series is called A song of ICE and FIRE...I think the whole thing might come down to magic creatures coming out of the North (walkers, weights, etc) against the red priests and/or Dany and her dragons and army. Poor Westeros might end up another Valyria.

I think, eventually, Bran will be the one to sit on the iron throne:D
It must be something unexpected with Martin, right?

Despite what happens at the end of A Dance With Dragons, the one with his arse firmly on the iron throne in the end will be Jon Snow... I can feel it in my waters. It obviously has to be someone who never wanted it in the first place - isn't that how these things work to send a message to the reader - and I can't think of anyone more suited to be the unlikely hero than a fifteen year old bastard/orphan who, despite always feeling unwanted, has been accepted by the whole kingdom as the overall ruler.
I definitely see Arya married with Gendry and she make him legal to be the hire of Storms end.
Someone like Jon Snow.
The bastard who becomes a King. I like it!
One by one, all dead: Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses. Here comes the time for normal people to rule.
A bastard boy :)

The Iron Throne was made by the Targaryens and only they should sit it. I don't think anyone else is up to the task. If Jon actually is Rhaegar's son then he is my choice. If no Targaryens are left in the end I 'd rather see the kingdom split, than a pretender on the throne.
Dany is a terrible choice, shouldn't rule anything. She's likely to die anyway.
I have no preferred choice, the selection is poor, always was.
Jon could never rule. Being the son of Rhaegar wouldn't matter, he took his vows for the Night's Watch and relinquished all titles. Also, Aegon (if he truly is who he thinks he is) is first in line before him anyway. Of the young characters, only one fit to rule something was Robb -- but he didn't care about the Iron Throne ergo the North seceded and he's dead anyway. Gendry, even if somehow legitimized, doesn't know anything about governance for lack of higher class education.
Also, Hot Pie is the Prince that was Promised, that can't work.
