Firstly is the fact that I have not been contributing much of late. There is a lot more work involved the..."
I will miss you .as a moderator ,is good you are still of the Goodreads "hobbit 's team.Jenny

Jordan has one book too short on her shelf which I scanned when I added her to the spreadsheet, All There Is: Love Stories from StoryCorps. I haven't compared her read shelf to her team shelf. Might want to wait on a PM to her until that is checked as well in case more is found.

I won't be much responsive in next few days. I'm helping friend with some data entry and that's pretty time consuming and we are on deadline. I'll be here from time to time (during breaks ☺), just not that much and that often. Would it be problem for you do take over spreadsheet update for next week?

And I created new column in spreadsheet to count all adv books at once for teams. Since I'm now updating from SU I have no idea who got what advantage and where.
❀Tea❀, you can look on the very last page of the SU spreadsheet called "BAP - all," and it will give a breakdown of the Team BAPs. Unless you are talking about which individuals got the cupcakes? Then you'd have to talk to Captain Cupcake.

Thanks. BAP is what I was thinking. ☺ I didn't knew that was there. Never went that far back.
TC I'll switch it back next week. ☺

I am in the process of listing all the 'chunksters' for possible BAP. I just have your shelf and my own to go. Do you have any preference as to which ones to post first? Maybe start with longest books and work our way down the list. I also thought maybe the slow readers first since they only have a few, and it could make them feel like they are contributing more to the team. Maybe even it out among all members as much as possible? Alphabetically by our user names? The ones I find confirming word counts for first to make it easier on the mods?
Here are the numbers so far:
Melissa-6
Dee-1
Sanz-3
md-0
Ezi-7
Jordan-2
Jenny-4
Jojiwoji-4

Also, little info, mine are all ebooks, so they tend to have (on GR) different page count (sometimes much bigger) that paper books. Leave mine for last unless you're sure they fit.

My idea for tracking books on this spreadsheet:
1. Add the book read to the list underneath the player's scattergories chart
2. In the scattergories chart add the word and number of book in the square it is being used for
For example: If I read the book Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks, which I actually plan to do, I would list it as #1 below and then put Caleb's(1) or Crossing(1) in the first square of my table under title for the letter C. I entered it as an example on my tab if you want to see what I mean but I will delete it when August starts before I actually read it. I also added a few other categories so you could see what it would look like.

You can tell I'm still asleep. I went to our 'usual' spreadsheet and couldn't figure out what you're talking about. Then I remembered 'new' spreadsheet. ☺ (now it's bookmarked)
So did we got approved or we are still waiting? Does that LK's 'looks good' is green light? Or just that we don't need to fix anything?
We have a couple of questions. First one:

So, using your form and the letter "C," then and item on a bookcover could be "cookie" and an animal could be "cat"?
Whereas, for "author" or "title" you would count that towards your "Spell-It-Out" letters? (24)

We have a huge variety of speeds in reading from 1 book a month to almost a book a day on our team. We wanted everyone to feel they could participate, so we put no limits on how many items a book could be used for. We have thirteen unique letters in our team name and 16 categories, this makes a potential 208 spots if a fast reader wants to try to complete the whole thing(6 items per book if you can read a book a day). One letter has 16 spots and most likely will take at least 2-3 books to complete a letter, but completing a whole letter is not required in Scattegories.
Team Hobbit Rules for Scattegories
1. Choose a letter or letters from the team name and read a book where you can find items on the list that start with that letter. For example with the letter C, an animal found could be the word 'cat', a color found could be the word 'crimson', an author could be Colleen Coble(2 pts for two Cs)
2. You can find as many as you like out of the same book.
3. It is not necessary to finish a letter, just find a many as you can.
4. Post your book when finished and tell us what categories you found in the book and why they fit. Unlike other challenges where we can just look at your shelf to list your books, you will need to post the book and items since we can not see inside the book.
5. The whole team will need to read 75 books total in the month of August.
That being said, this is what I was thinking for scoring it for the BAP:(most of this sorting done behind the scenes by the captains)
1. There will be a list of books read by each player on their tab as well as the words or pictures they find for each square.
2. If a book is only used as a title or author, it will be considered a Spell-It-Out option. Each player may use up to 3 of these books towards the BAP to reach a team total of no more than 24 books.
3. Books that are used to find other categories separately or in addition to the title or author can be counted as 1 book read. This would be similar to other teams options of reading a blue cover or a book set by water.

-------------------------------------------------
Planning to post this for the team:
August Scattergories This is the link to the spreadsheet we will use for tracking books/items. There is an example of two books read on the tab labeled 'TC' for you to look at now, but they will be deleted before the challenge starts.

3. Each square can only have one item from one book. For example, you can not find the word 'cheetah' from one book and 'cat' from another and use both of them for animal under C.
4. It is not necessary to finish a letter, just find a many as you can. Each word that starts with the letter gains 1 point. If you find a phrase like 'blue baboon'(2 pts) or an author with the same initials like Colleen Coble(2 pts), you get additional points each time the first letter is the same.
5. Post your book when finished and tell us what categories you found in the book and why they fit. Unlike other challenges where we can just look at your shelf to list your books, you will need to post the book and items since we can not see inside the book.
6. The whole team will need to read 75 books total in the month of August.
7. If you want make a personal goal for this challenge, here are some options to consider:
a. choose a specific letter/letters and try to complete them
b. choose a category/categories and try to complete them
c. pick a number of points to reach and see if you can find enough words to reach it
------------------------------------------------
Behind the scenes scoring by the captains:
1. There will be a list of books read by each player on their tab as well as the words or pictures they find for each square.
2. If a book is only used as a title or author, it will be considered a Spell-It-Out option. Each player may use up to 3 of these books towards the BAP to reach a team total of no more than 24 books. Adjustments may be made in the number per player if one player only uses books in the Spell-It-Out option form and another player doesn't use any in this manner.
3. Books that are used to find other categories separately or in addition to the title or author can be counted as 1 book read. This would be similar to other teams options of reading a blue cover or a book set by water.

I like the name Scattered Hobbits or something similar.

You said we'll use spell-out option for 'non-active' players and spell-out is title or author, right? Why can't we put in both? In case of Dee's book, why did you use only title when author also fits? And we can also check characters on GR page.

I guess they could also be non-spell-out options by using the covers, I was just trying to make it easier on us by not having to research what else might be used from the book and just staying with title/author.
I did put the author on Dee's book. She has 3 points, one for the title and 1 each for both initials of the author. Since I only used it for title and author, though, I counted it as a spell out book.

OK I thought that it's spell-out only if we use it for title or author or character names. Got it now. :D

Location and cover in the top part can still be considered a non-spell out book.
All that being said, I am not worried about spell-out books. I have a feeling we won't be needing to use them at all. (except Dee's book, but maybe I can go back and find an item on the cover for her)

I was more checking for Jenny's book. :D She's reading Hunger games, and there we have title, author, both characters, cover and if we stretch it location. :D
As I said I just asked because I wasn't sure what's treated as spell-out. I know we can probably manage it without them, but it's good to have fall back option. And there are always cupcakes to use if needed. I can't believe nobody used them yet. :D

And most of them came from one book. :D

Since more books are required to fit in that first challenge than before, maybe we can give the slower readers the option to choose ahead of time which day they will be reading first if they want? Or just use them for the other two challenges which we can make mostly spell out? I am willing to choose most of my books to fit the first challenge to make it easier for others to participate.

Your idea about giving them percentages will give them better idea. And we should give slower readers choice if they want to go with spelling or other challenges. It won't be fair to 'force' them to do one or the other.
Go ahead play with numbers. ☺
I'm signed up for Book a Day challenge, but I'm waiting for September to start it. ☺

To Do List
1. Sunday Update (Sunday morning) done
2. Update Team spreadsheet (Fri/Sat evening, Sun morning)
2a. Team updates updated 8/25 morning
2b. Cupcake page updated 8/24
2c. Chunksters list(Sun/Mon)
3. Update Scattered Hobbits (Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon) updated 8/25 morning
4. Check on September participants (Mon)
4a. Determine how to set up tracking spreadsheet
5. Redeem Chunksters and Triple Threats (Mon)
6. READ BOOKS. I really need to at least get the 4 I have started finished.

To..."
Can I help with something? ☺
As for tracking September challenge, I was thinking we could do it as we did 7% - list books and then fit them into categories. I can make template spreadsheet and send it to you so you can work your magic. ☺
Do you want me to play with redeeming? Since there was rule change I believe some of redeemed chunksters can now fit into TT (Dee's Stephen King?).
As for Scattered Hobbits, we have few books that are same, why don't you 'borrow' mine words? I did few of yours (ideas at least). ☺

Yes, Hobbit Blue has only redeemed one Triple Threat cupcake. You have redeemed 23 "chunksters."

I agree, especially since that is the only category with fixed minimum books to read.
We should also give them that split-up (or how to call it) of days so they can get better view of them. Did you try to split them up more? I think in few of them I left that or part in one category.
As for animals, something with less vowels? ☺
Did we decide for A-Z are we going with authors or titles?

I reserved a post for each challenge, so I will put the days breakdown in one too.
I haven't done much with the spreadsheet yet. I just looked to see how you had set it up, and I liked the different tabs for each challenge. I was leaving that for Sunday when I have the whole day off since we really don't need it for tracking until at least Sunday night. I think I can get it to add up the books for us from the challenge tabs onto the summary tab. I'll see.
I hadn't see a decision about author or title yet.
I will pick animals with few vowels.☺

I did change the spreadsheet so that when we enter finished books on the List of Books tab, it will automatically update books read and percentages on the Summary tab. We need to write the player names like this in order for it to work:
TC
Tea
Jojiwoji
Dee
Sanz
Karen
Ezi
Melissa
md
Jenny
Jordan
