Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Ian - lol! You guys are all so great. :)

message 553: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Ian has some great ideas!!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments GR has a bug happening atm where old reviews are getting bumped to the feed without people editing them. It's a huge clusterfuck atm on the general feed.

message 555: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Ugh! Weird, I wondered what was going on.

message 556: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Hmm?!? Makes me wonder what GR is doing? What changes are coming.

message 557: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Weird...I was wondering too!

On another note...my Kindle Paperwhite got a new update and goodreads is now on it.

message 558: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh cool!!! I wish my Kindle Fire would get that update, but it won't.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Kay wrote: "On another note...my Kindle Paperwhite got a new update and goodreads is now on it."

Oh...I wonder if mine has Goodreads as well? Maybe a stupid question but is it free to use or are they going to charge to access it?

message 560: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Navarro (kanarenee) Did you guys see the new Kindle HDX was on Cyber Monday sale for $50 off? Ben was going to buy it for me but I talked ihm out of it because I hate knowing how much money is being spent one me... I am so dumb sometimes! LOL

message 561: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Regina wrote: "Oh cool!!! I wish my Kindle Fire would get that update, but it won't."

Are they planning on integrating goodreads on the fire?

message 562: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Ian, it's free! It also updated with the kids' Kindle Free Time, a 'currently reading' section and a 'read' section but these are not shelves from goodreads. I doubt I will use this feature since I keep track of all my reading on goodreads and don't need other shelves to update on my kindle/amazon.

Too bad there were no deals on the smaller kindles....then you wouldn't feel so bad about spending his money ;)

message 564: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments It's 24 here... I'm freezing my booty off and it's not going to "warm" up till wednesday. I don't know how people do it who live where it snows. Yes, I know i'm a wimp. lol!

message 565: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Is it usually that cold there? It is 19 here and really cold to me.

message 566: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments No, it's not usually freezing here. maybe a few days but it's been like this since last Thursday and my Cali blood is now officially frozen. Walking the kids to school is getting dangerous. People keep watering their lawns and the sidewalks are covered in ice.

message 567: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Lol? Why are people watering their yards!!??

Do you even have winter year to wear?

message 568: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 222 comments Hahaha. It snowed here for Thanksgiving. I'm a wimp, too. My blood's too thin for the cold.

message 569: by Leea, Escape Artist (last edited Dec 09, 2013 08:18AM) (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I have all kinds of winter wear... I recently just bought us all those synthetic down jackets from REI. It's a good thing!! The problem is when it's that cold even your legs are freezing. It gets cold here just not freezing for a week. Normally we have mild winters.

message 570: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LMAO, I agree with Regina, why the heck are they watering their lawns?! Don't they know it's just going to freeze the grass, hahaha.

message 571: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments It has been freeeeezing here too! I agree with Leea, I don't do good in cold. We have winter jackets but it's not like we wear it for more than a month or just a weekend when we go out to the snow. We're just not use to it being frozen. I can't wait for it to warm up. Buurrrrrr.

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Wendy F wrote: "LMAO, I agree with Regina, why the heck are they watering their lawns?! Don't they know it's just going to freeze the grass, hahaha."

Californians are clueless when it comes to this cold weather. LOL And Southern Californians don't know what to do when it rains....that's just foreign to them.

message 573: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) Automatic sprinkler systems? It's been the same around here. Colder than usual. My kid has like 3 long sleeve shirts, 2 hoodies that are on the small side, and one light coat. I clearly need to get on that winter wardrobe shit if it's going to be like this all winter. Our winters usually last for about 5 days in January. This is the third cold front already this year. Fronts are the only time we get really cold weather in winter, thanks to the warm air coming off of the gulf stream. So it's wet wet wet, then cold and overcast until the sun finally comes back out. It's blech. I'd rather it snow. At least then everything would shut down (because none of us know how to drive in it). lol

message 574: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Yeah I was thinking of you Kay this morning. ha! I think people just don't know how to turn off their automatic sprinklers here. It's dangerous and my husband has been really working on showing the boys where all the ice areas are. So this morning they were helping me. So sweet! My dog was just outside rolling the backyard grass which is basically ice. haha!

message 575: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) lol My bratty dogs are too horrified to even step off the patio onto cold, wet grass.

message 576: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) I would mock people's inability to handle cold, touting my tough Canadian blood, except I'm the biggest wimp in the world. Basically from Dec to May I just want to walk around with a blanket wrapped around me. It's been well below zero here the past few days and I am dying.

message 577: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments hahaha, right... yeah, I've lived in a place with cold winters all my life. I'm still a wimp. I'd hibernate if I could.

message 578: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments I'm from Calif. and my first winter in the Cascades was minus 24. My poor Calif. VW bug refused to start. It and I was ready to move back! But we didn't. Ah, love prevented it. I just basically wear tons of layers 9 months of the year LOL. It warmed up to 8 degrees this a.m. Whoo-hoo!

message 579: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 222 comments I always say my genetics cause me to be acclimated to the Mediterranean climate. I just need to live in Italy or Greece. ;)

It's been zero to around 10 degrees during the day and dropping below zero at night.

I miss California weather, sigh. But we're warming up for the rest of the week. One good thing about where I live in Colorado, is that even though we get a few shitty days here and there, it never lasts. It always goes back to halfway decent. We rarely get snow to stick around, even though it's all white right now and kind of pretty.

message 581: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Yeah...I know what you mean about cold weather. It was 86° in Sydney this morning (shivers)...thankfully it will warm up by lunch to around 95°.

lol...there must be a place on earth where it's 85° every day....a cold snap is 84° and a heatwave is 86°. I think I want to move there.

message 582: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Stacia... I wanted to pick your brain about a good time to visit colorado. We were thinking of going next October, does it snow at that time? It was a small resort by Vail, we would do another road trip with the boys... But we wanted to do more hiking than snow play.

I miss our mild weather, the hight today is 42 which is just crazy. I finally busted out my warm hat. haha!

message 583: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Didn't really know all that much about Alicia Keys until last night. I vaguely knew a few songs and that was about it. Have to say, she's kind of gorgeous and though not really the sort of music I normally listen to, I know talent when I hear it.

After that...dinner at Luke Nguyen's Viet Namese restaurant...oysters were amazing...meal was meh. And then Blackjack till 3am. lol...I should have walked away when I was $500 ahead, but hey, $250 in my pocket is still better than walking out with nothing.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Oh, I'm glad the concert was a good time for you! I knew you were going soon but wasn't sure when. I wish I could have hung out for the night, especially at the blackjack portion of the evening. :p

Leea, it probably won't be snowing then. There's always a chance of snow happening at any time, being up in the mountains, but it will be a low chance at that time of the year.

message 585: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Thanks Stacia!

Ian, how fun! Sounds like a fantastic time. I love Alicia Keys - she's so beautiful and talented.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Hey, just wondering if any of you have joined Leafmarks. Have a look at the sign up page, look familiar?

description

It's obviously been set up by people who left GR after the censorship debacle but I kind of wonder if they have gone a little too far making it look so similar to GR. I haven't joined but I looked at one of the pages inside and the layout is quite similar.

Reminds me of this from a few years ago.

It's almost the same, only blue. At least the login page.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I have several friends that joined leafmarks, but I don't know. I wasn't going to go to Booklikes and got dragged over there because of friends leaving GR. The thought of juggling 3 social media sites for books seems overkill.

message 589: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I kind of think Leafmarks looks good, but I suspect GR will be able to make them change the website so that it in no way resembles GR in looks and in some cases functionality. That's a battle that might be on its way.

But you're right...it's hard enough keeping up with two, adding a third is just asking for grey hair.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments For those who are celebrating, Merry Christmas to you and your families. :)

If you're not celebrating, have a great day off anyway!

message 591: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I know a lot of people complain about "the true meaning of Christmas being lost", but I kind of love that it has become more than a Christian holiday. I love that you can take whatever you want from Christmas and enjoy it even if you're not religious or otherwise religious.

So, take whatever you want from today, and have a very happy Christmas.

message 592: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I hope everyone had a great holiday. I got to spend today with my family, relaxing and unplugging for a bit. It was so nice, the mulled wine on the stove didn't hurt either. haha!

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments So...I try to stay away from game apps, because I become so addicted to them I ignore everything else. My latest obsession (and really only game app obsession) is Words with Friends. Is anyone else hooked on this?

So can you play it on your own or do you need to connect with other people to play. I tend to have a very low tolerance for games. I usually get frustrated with them pretty quickly but I like games that I can use to kill time for 5 minutes.

message 595: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I have in the past but my friend kept having to text me to remind me to make my word play. ha! So basically I suck at it!

message 596: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments Ian--

you connect with other people, but it can choose players for you at random, and then my phone beeps when they've made their move.

We just drank bubble and ate chocolate, while at home.

Peggyzbooksnmusic Mike went to bed at 9PM since he was getting up early to run with a buddy. I read until midnight to welcome the New Year. We're such party people! lol!
