I've just started 101 Reykjavik by Hallgrimur Helgasonso that takes care of both challenges!
It is supposed to be funny not grim - will let you know the verdict later.
Sounds good :-)I found this list of Winter Reads selected by writers for The Guardian - http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/serie... - if anyone needs help choosing. I'm going to make a shelf on our bookshelf of titles people suggest too.
If you want a light children's/YA read, I can recommend this one Odd and the Frost Giants :-)
There are heaps of Goodreads Listopia lists too (I liked this one -- http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/16...)

Any suggestions for an April reading challenge?
I started reading Calculated in Death the other night in front of the fire and the first few pages described a very cold winter murder scene.......I was pleased I had the fire going. I will let you know how it goes but I like this challengeCalculated in Death

Books mentioned in this topic
Calculated in Death (other topics)Odd and the Frost Giants (other topics)

Mysteries also seem like they'd be good for this challenge -- noir fiction, and grim Scandinavian mysteries :-) Although I guess Northern Hemisphere timing means there'll be heaps of Christmas reads...
Let us know what you think -- or is this too depressing a challenge when we've just left behind such a wonderful Summer? :-)
