Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments We have a tie for December's group read poll, so we're going to use both books for the next two months.

In December we will be reading - Unveiled (Turner, #1) by Courtney Milan

In January we will be reading - Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill

Our current group read for November is - Black Ice (Ice, #1) by Anne Stuart

Samantha | 419 comments I have to see if I have Black Ice.

I'm currently reading Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun . Nice bit of steam to jump start my weekend.

I just finished! It was great!! I agree with the combo about Shalvis & Carr. I actually feel more connected to Osburn's writing than Shalvis. But that may be b/c I didn't enjoy the few Lucky Harbor books that I've read as much as Anchor Island.

I agree. I thought the beginning was slow, the middle was really good, but the end? It didn't work for me.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Lately it's been a struggle to keep my updates...well up to date. This time of year drives me insane.

At the moment I'm reading The Perfect Match by Kristin Higgins, Size Matters by Robyn Peterman and The House on Main Street by Shirlee McCoy.

The Perfect Match (Blue Heron, #2) by Kristan Higgins Size Matters by Robyn Peterman The House on Main Street (Apple Valley, #1) by Shirlee McCoy

I just walked away from Bloodring by Faith Hunter. I love her Jane Yellowrock books but if monotony were a super power this book would be wearing spandex with a big M on its chest. I also read First Bite by Dani Harper which was ok but not great.

Bloodring (Rogue Mage, #1) by Faith Hunter First Bite (Dark Wolf, #1) by Dani Harper

Thanks Stacia for setting up our group reads - You Rock!!

I'm excited for Black Ice, it's been on the TBR list for a very long time.

Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill looks really good.

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Enchanted, Inc. (Enchanted, Inc., #1) by Shanna Swendson ....definitely not what I was expecting and kind of a disappointment, actually.

So ready to move on to a good book so I'm hoping this one is it: Scarlet (Scarlet #1) by A.C. Gaughen

message 4161: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I decided to give The Secret of Ella and Micha (The Secret, #1) by Jessica Sorensen a chance since this author will be here in a few months for a book signing. It's going better than other New Adults I've read but still have some elements that usually urk me.

message 4162: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Currently reading A Bad Day for Scandal (Bad Day, #3) by Sophie Littlefield which is a little weird since I'm also studying up for possible volunteer work at a domestic violence/rape crisis center (if I'm accepted). Anybody not familiar with the Bad Day series, it's about a 50 yr old woman, Stella, who runs a sewing shop and has a side business of helping battered women in her own special way. I'm loving the series because I can relate in many ways with Stella and the humor is great, along with the characters.

Besides those, I'm also reading a wonderful photography book a friend recently gave me, National Geographic Complete Photography by National Geographic Society . It's got everything in it and I hope to put some of the helpful tips to good use.

That's one of my favorite New Adults, Kay. I really like Jessica Sorensen's writing.

Though I have to admit, I don't think that genre is for me. I've read some good ones (T. Torrest and Nyrae Dawn come to mind) but there isn't a lot to distinguish one book from another. They all seem to follow the same formula.

Lisa, how wonderful of you to volunteer with a violence/rape center. I hope you're accepted as you have a very special way of relating to others.

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments finished up Biting Bad - it was almost completely romance angst-less...and much more mystery focused...(view spoiler) - this book was focused on a group of individuals who want to get Chicago rid of vampires...so more political type stuff

message 4166: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I started Tempting Danger (World of the Lupi, #1) by Eileen Wilks and I am really liking it.

I am also reading After Dead What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse (Sookie Stackhouse, #13.5) by Charlaine Harris b/c I have to know. And listening to Doll Bones by Holly Black

I finished Do Or Die by Suzanne Brockmann and I loved it.

That book had 2 separate halves, imo.

Finished Ghosts of the Falls by Sarah Gilman and it was a great little novella about finding love in an unusual way. It was nice for a short and sweet read.

Started Size Matters by Robyn Peterman with Ian and a couple of our friends. It's had several hilarious moments but it's almost to the point of being overdone with the humor, although I do think that an ass-kicking Mariah Carey with anger issues is quite amusing.

message 4174: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Thanks Peggy :)

Finished A Bad Day for Scandal (Bad Day, #3) by Sophie Littlefield and really liked it. That series keeps getting better so far. Will be starting The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes . I had really liked Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and so look forward to this one, hoping it's as good.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Girl You Left Behind is very different from Me Before You, but I found that I liked the historical parts better than the modern-day parts.

If you end up liking Girl at all, I think this author did a similar style of book but in a better way. Before I Met You by Lisa Jewell

message 4176: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Lisa it does, it gets so much better! I thought the last one was not as great as the most recent ones, but as strong as the first one.

message 4177: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Thanks Stacia - will look for Before I Met You :)

The humor in the Bad Day series seems to be getting better. I love it when Stella and Chrissy are out on "assignments" and they get into their funny discussions. Cracks me up! And now there's a love triangle with B.J. entering the picture. Yay. Another aspect I love about this series is Stella's age and showing readers that folks over fifty lead interesting...lives... I'm so tempted to skip A Bad Day for Mercy since my library doesn't have it and read A Bad Day for Romance :D

Leea | 1437 comments Man am I glad the weekend is over... I didn't read anything, not one word and it just sucked! I cannot wait to start reading tomorrow.

I may start Carolina Gold a day early Kay, because i'm not reading much at all. I hope that's okay. I just don't want to start something I wont be able to finish by tuesday.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Yeah...I'm only at 18% and starting to lose patience. Every time Mariah enters I'm loving it...then she exits and I'm back to the grind. The humor is too over the top to be really funny....at the moment. I'm committing to 30% and if I'm not feeling the love by then I'll probably walk away. It's a bit like Sex in the City meets The Three Stooges...if Larry, Mo and Curly were doing all the dramatic scenes and Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte were doing the slapstick.

lol...how do you know a book might not be for you? When you are at 15% you turn the page and get annoyed that it's still 15%.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I ended up DNF'ing it. I think I got to just under 30% and gave up. When it was funny, it was funny, but the humor became too forced because there were no breaks (and some of the punchlines were reused multiple times). I want to tell the author that it's okay to go a few paragraphs without a joke.

message 4190: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) I feel like Hurricane DNF. I'm dumping NG requests left, right and centre, because they just aren't grabbing me.

message 4194: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Scarlet (Scarlet #1) by A.C. Gaughen which I surprisingly liked! Some things annoyed me, but overall, I love the way I keep thinking about it when I'm done with it.

Now going to start What I Did For a Duke (Pennyroyal Green, #5) by Julie Anne Long !

message 4195: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I read a short arc tonight and it was just fun, Wanderlust by Kitty French

message 4196: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am really enjoying Tempting Danger (World of the Lupi, #1) by Eileen Wilks -- I hear the series gets better. It is fun to reading a UF series I am enjoying. I can see why the series isn't for everyone, but I am liking it.

I finished Doll Bones by Holly Black - it is such a great middle grade story with just the right level of spookiness.

message 4197: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments So I finished Inside Job by Connie Willis which is a quick audio (2.5 hours). It was funny, I love Connie Willis. Her stuff is satirical -- always good.

I just started the audio of Horde (Razorland, #3) by Ann Aguirre and I am liking it right away. I am still reading Tempting Danger (World of the Lupi, #1) by Eileen Wilks and enjoying it. I already bought the sequel. :)

Leea are we starting Glitterland (Glitterland, #1) by Alexis Hall this Thursday and Friday or next week?

message 4198: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I thought we could start tomorrow, but if that's too soon then we can do next week if needed. Totally flexible here :)

I'm 64% into Carolina Gold by Dorothy Love and it's very simple written. But it works with the story, i'm just a little confused on the "mystery" it's not much of a mystery IMO.

message 4199: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments I finished The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes and liked it, especially the historical parts, like Stacia said. I was more interested in Sophie's story than Liv's but they were both good. I followed this up with the prequel novella, Honeymoon in Paris by Jojo Moyes and oh my. Moyes can write some romantic scenes, some of which really got to me. I can't wait to read more by this author. And yes, Stacia, I still plan to read that other book you recommended :)

Now I'm ready to jump back into the Bad Day series and read A Bad Day for Mercy A Crime Novel by Sophie Littlefield in audio form.

message 4200: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I've read some amazing books lately, but some absolute stinkers as well. I generally read one Kindle book a week and one or two audiobooks. I have so many great Kindle books to read but I'm struggling to find good audiobooks. Most of the awful books have been audio.

Anyway...just started Villere House by my good friend Leslie Fear. It's her first novel and a pretty good ghost story. Also started Don't Judge a Book by its Magic. Not sure. Seems a little like Harry Potter without the subtlety but could surprise me.

Villere House (Blood of My Blood) by Leslie Fear Don't Judge a Book By Its Magic by Kate Policani
