I am a big skimmer when it comes to pages of details but I find myself criticizing about how much better it could have been if I didn't have to skim. It's sort of a pet peeve of mine. Stephen King is the more polished, male version of Kristen Ashley when it comes to over-writing things to death. :)

But I do like the meat of his stories, if that makes sense?

Anyway, I will probably finish it up in the morning as well, but I'm going to read some more in a few minutes.

I finished out the last couple of chapters of a book I'd been reading for a while when I was waiting on my husband to get back from the store, just to get it off my reader. When Summer Ends by Isabelle Rae Was not a fan at all.

D.G. Yesterday I was in an 'enemies to lovers' mood so I picked two books I found on that shelf: Bound By Blood (Bound, #1) by Cynthia Eden an OK novella and Can't Get Enough by Sarah Mayberry - way better but still with some weaknesses. I liked that it was set in Australia and the heroine was a triathlete. If there hadn't been so much drama from the heroine's part (You don't really love me! You just feel sorry for me!), I would have enjoyed it better.

Now I'm listening to Midnight Rising (Midnight Breed, #4) by Lara Adrian for the Bingo shelf, sort of bland but I'm a Audio PNR mood. I'm also reading some New Adult Losing It (Losing It, #1) by Cora Carmack , the heroine is a bit nuts but she knows it. I'm also liking that they are theater majors.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Just started Home to Whiskey Creek which is looking promising. Brenda Novak is a bit like a pop diva singing the national anthem. She doesn't always quite manage to hit the high notes...but so far I'm liking this one a lot, it might even end up being my favorite in the series.

And Dark Currents which is great fun. This will sound completely bizarre but these books are reminding me of The A-Team. I pity the fool.

Dark Currents (The Emperor's Edge #2) by Lindsay Buroker Home to Whiskey Creek (Whiskey Creek, #4) by Brenda Novak

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Midnight Rising is where I stopped.

I have had Sweet Persuasion (bought it in 2010!) on my kindle and haven't read it. Stacia I agree, I think I prefer her historicals.

I just started Tear You Apart by Megan Hart which is an arc, but I like Megan Hart a lot. She has had so many new releases I haven't had a chance to do her backlist yet.

D.G. Regina wrote: "Midnight Rising is where I stopped."

I don't know why this series is so popular. All the books are really meh!

This will be it for me. The series is not bad, just really bland.

message 2056: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments You are kinder than me. ;)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments D.G. I feel the same way, which is why I probably never made it to book 4.

Finished Joyland by Stephen King and really liked it.

Started Dirty Little Secret by Jennifer Echols and enjoying it so far.
Also started The Duchess War (Brothers Sinister, #1) by Courtney Milan

message 2058: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I've had a great run of books this last week. Finished Lie Still and Joyland today and both were so good. I can't stop thinking of Dev and his coming of age story. It was very good.

Next up, Special Forces - Mercenaries Part II (Special Forces, #2 part 2) by Marquesate

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

message 2059: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments I am so jealous Leea. You get to continue reading about Vadim and Dan. I miss my boys.

message 2060: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments To be honest, I'm a little nervous. I don't really like (view spoiler)

I'm glad i'm reading it with Wendy, that way she can let me vent!

message 2061: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments I didn't like it either Leea. However, as much as I didn't agree with it, after reading the books, I get Dan and I think you will too.

message 2062: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Finished Bloodfever (Fever, #2) by Karen Marie Moning ! Such an easy read and I got through it pretty quick, which surprised me. I guess my only option to read next is Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning !

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments It all goes crazy from book 3 on. Hope you have book 4 handy.

message 2064: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 159 comments Stacia - I'm lucky! I bought all 5 books about a year ago so probably no stopping after this?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I think it would be hard to want to stop after finishing book 3.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) Yeah, you going to want book 4 handy. Loved book 4. My favorite of the the five books. :o)

message 2067: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments I finished Me Before You by Jojo Moyes after staying up til the wee hours. It's really good and thought provoking and yes, a tear-jerker. Now I need something light and funny so started A Witch's Handbook of Kisses and Curses (Half Moon Hollow, #2) by Molly Harper . I love Molly Harper!

message 2068: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Leea, can't wait to hear what you and Wendy think of Part II. And then you get to read Veterans!

Marcella, have you had the chance to start Matt's and Hooch's "Deliverance" yet? Just wondering what you think.

Catching up with Internet stuff today... been offline for a few days. But not affected by the Vegas fire on Mt. Charleston, thank goodness! Most of the smoke, etc., has cleared, which is good. High humidity (for Vegas) + high heat (115+) + really bad air quality... means staying indoors and getting cabin fever!

Read Pulse (Collide, #2) by Gail McHugh that just came out last week. Eh... the heroine found her spine, but most of the book was predictable.

Reading Unraveling (Unraveling, #1) by Elizabeth Norris - really interesting, but it's... dunno. Unsettling? Plus, it's really making me miss San Diego!

Also finished The Highlander's Reward (Stolen Bride, #1) by Eliza Knight and Devil of the Highlands (Devil of the Highlands, #1) by Lynsay Sands . It was a nice Highland trip!

Saw Karina Halle's post on FB that said that "Shooting Scars" s/b on Netgalley within the next week. Sure hope I can get an advance copy!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Ah! That makes me tempted to request! I've been trying to stay away from NetGalley.

D.G. Finished Midnight Rising (Midnight Breed, #4) by Lara Adrian . I made a note to myself in the review not to continue the series. If you see me picking it the next book, hit me over the head!

Now I'll return to Losing It (Losing It, #1) by Cora Carmack and In Bed with a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy, #1) by Maya Banks .

Lori, I'll let you know. So far i'm having a hard time with it feeling choppy and like it was written by two people ( I know it was, but it shouldn't feel that way).

Ohh, i'll have to look out for Shooting Scars on NG - thanks for the heads up :)

Layali (lallouch) | 8 comments I started Fade ( In The Company of Shadows #4 ) in sunday and i'm tearing up ever since but a great book so far and an amazing series

message 2075: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished MacRieve (Immortals After Dark, #13) by Kresley Cole . This wasn't my favorite IAD but I still enjoyed it. I'm off to search for my next read...not sure what yet.

message 2076: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm listening to The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike, #1) by Robert Galbraith . The audio is pretty good so far.

The other two books I had going are on hold.

message 2077: by Leea, Escape Artist (last edited Jul 16, 2013 09:08AM) (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I'm reading Special Forces - Mercenaries Part II (Special Forces, #2 part 2) by Marquesate and in the book Vadim keeps referring to people wearing Jumpers and for the life of me all I can imagine in this (view spoiler) This cannot be what he's describing as he referring to a man's dress. Does anyone know what a "light Jumper" is when referring to clothing? A jacket?

So far this book is just missing the magic, that spark that I found in the first book. I hope things pick up :)

message 2078: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments A jumper is the British term for a sweater.

message 2079: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments That is funny, Leea! An English author then? There may be other English wording like "boot" for the trunk of a car. Love it. I did a quick study before my trip to Ireland/Scotland so I wouldn't blurt out something offensive or funny but I'm sure they're used to it LOL.

message 2080: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) LOL, Leea - yep, lots of British English terms. Both writers speak the British version, so... I know jumper mostly from Bridget Jones and the like. But I love your visual!

I know what you mean about the choppiness. It remains throughout, although I didn't notice it quite so much in Veterans. Does it seem to you as if 1 writer wrote Dan and the other writer wrote Vadim?

message 2081: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) BTW, finished Unraveling (Unraveling, #1) by Elizabeth Norris , Undone (Unraveling, #1.5) by Elizabeth Norris , and then Unbreakable (Unraveling, #2) by Elizabeth Norris . I was really swept up in all of this sci-fi, urban fantasy, dystopian stuff and I *had* to know how it ended! Now I've got to get my reviews typed up.

I wasn't as thrilled with Ben's POV, which is odd, somehow to me. I think that it might be because I read Undone 1st, because I got it 1st from my library. But maybe not. I was glad that I'd read it, though.

message 2082: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I love reading British Chick Lits...so most british terms are familiar to me. Clothing words make me giggle: Jumper, Trousers, Knickers, Trainers LOL

Now, I want to read a British chick lit novel. LOL

I feel like such a slacker for not having read Unbreakable yet, since I was constantly talking up Unraveling to people for a while there. Maybe I'll try to squeeze it in this month somewhere if I can find a place to make it fit.

Finished Dirty Little Secret by Jennifer Echols and it was cute but I didn't fall in love with the book. My feelings are sort of lukewarm.

Still working on The Duchess War (Brothers Sinister, #1) by Courtney Milan and I'm having trouble wanting to read it, even though I think I should be liking it. My mood might be off.

I stuggled with TDW, too. The duke wasn't a compelling character, in my opinion. He felt guilty about his father's sins...yadda yadda. meh

The second book is up on NG...

message 2087: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am home from a trip -- relieved to be home. I left my headphones on the flight there though. Boo.

I finished Tear You Apart by Megan Hart -- 3 stars. Well written, well done an really nicely developed. I just did not like the story.

I started and am almost done with Taking Him Down by Meg Maguire -- -which I am really enjoying. The sex is freaking hot.

Lisa I just got Me Before You by Jojo Moyes from NG - I am looking forward to reading it. ;)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Hey -- The Outside (The Hallowed Ones, #2) by Laura Bickle is up on NG Stacia.

message 2089: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments @Regina - let me know your thoughts when you finish Me Before You by Jojo Moyes or during. I haven't returned my library copy yet and still have my little sticky notes marking pages so I can discuss with anybody :D

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Nice, you're going to read Me Before You. :) It's weird that it's making a comeback/re-release now because the book has been out for a while.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Regina wrote: "Hey -- The Outside (The Hallowed Ones, #2) by Laura Bickle is up on NG Stacia."

I was so happy to see that! I went and requested it. I reallly hope I get it. The first book is one of my favorites. I already loved Amish books but Amish and horror is a double bonus!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Anna, I'm about 70% in now and will probably skim the rest. I'm just not feeling it, but remember you saying something about the other books (prequel and side story?) being better, so hopefully book 2 will be good like those were and not like this book.

Leea wrote: "Anna (Bobs Her Hair) wrote: "Stacia ~ Vixen of Variety wrote: "Still working on The Duchess War (Brothers Sinister, #1) by Courtney Milanand I'm having trouble wanting to read it, even though I think I should be liking..."

That's how I ended up reading book 1 was because I knew I'd been wanting to try Courtney Milan for a while and saw book 2 up, so figured the timing was right.

message 2093: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 4 comments Hi! Right now I'm reading the original Dracula by Bram Stoker. I'm not that far into it right now, but I'm already terrified of the Count based on the narrator's experiences. The story is told through a series of letters and diary entries from a few people who enCOUNTer the Count;)

message 2094: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I've picked up Claim Me (Stark Trilogy, #2) by J. Kenner yet again in an attempt to finish it. Man, sometimes I wish I could just let books go.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments It gets easier the more you do it, Angie.

These days I either skim to the end if it's so-so or flat out quit if it's bad.

message 2096: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 4 comments I attempted to read Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and when I was halfway through the book, I still didn't really know what the book was supposed to be about, so I skimmed, and the second half of the book seemed to be just like the first, so I had to just put it down...

It's just about finding the courage to do it for the first time!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Just look at the stack of all the other books you have and think about what you do want to read!

Speaking of, I did skim the last part of The Duchess War (Brothers Sinister, #1) by Courtney Milan and it wasn't for me.

I will still read book 2 since I have it, but if that one doesn't work for me, then I'll probably know that the author and I aren't a good fit.

message 2099: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Regina, I just read Me Before You a few weeks ago. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts bc it really is a thought provoking book.

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I don't think Courtney Milan is for me either. I tried picking up 2 different books by her but never got into it. A bunch of my goodreads friends seem to really like her tho but I just don't feel the same.
