Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I was knocked back for Confessions of an Almost Girlfriend...sounds like I dodged a bullet. lol...you seem to be finding a lot of duds lately.

I'm nearly finished with It had to be you. Not bad but a little obvious. Am finally starting Wallbanger which has been on my TBR for ages.

It Had to Be You (Lucky Harbor, #7) by Jill Shalvis Wallbanger by Alice Clayton

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I have, but I've also had some good reads too. There was that 5 star story from Carniepunk and I really liked Breathe Me In (Ross Siblings, #2.5) by Cherrie Lynn , so at least a couple of winners have broken through, thankfully.

Leea, Stacia, the show starts on the 24th, so next week on Monday.

Courtney, i'm glad I'm not the only one who had difficulty with that book. it took me a long time to read book two and I was lost reading it because of that. not sure if i'll finish the series. it's definitely not my priority =D

I'm a fan of Singh's other series but I didn't like that premise too much. I finished the book but not continuing the series.

I do plan on starting her Psy-Changeling series. that one does sound good. I've heard good things about it too. just haven't had the chance to start it. hehe

message 1510: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I love the Psy-Changeling series. The world building is simply marvelous, among the best in PNR.

One of the best things is that even though there's a conflict at large going on, it never takes the focus from the couple. So there's a lot of characters but it never feels like they are taking over and you definitely don't want to skip those scenes.

thanks D.G. that's very helpful info. I like world building, but I also like the focus to be on the couple in the story. I'll have to move the first book up on my list to read =D

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi and I didn't really like it.

Marcella, would you want to start Heart of Obsidian soon? I am super busy at work so if I start it today, I probably won't finish it until the end of the week.

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Next Monday should be perfect. Thanks Kay! I am looking forward to it. So excited!

message 1520: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) I was so excited because I thought I'd found an amazing HR with The Importance of Being Wicked (Millworth Manor, #2) by Victoria Alexander The first two thirds of it were so fun. Excellent banter, lots of steam, a smart heroine, lovely roguish guy tied up in knots. Loved it.

But then it was like the author ran out of steam in act three. The HEA was so abrupt I was left wondering WTF had just happened. Very anti-climatic.

So still on the lookout for the next great one.

message 1521: by D.G. (new)

D.G. That sucks, Tellulah!

message 1522: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments I hate books like that Tellulah. It makes me feel like I was ripped off after investing so much into it.

Courtney | 159 comments Domino and D.G. - I have her Psy-Changeling book in my to read list and it looks pretty interesting. Can't wait to start it!

message 1524: by D.G. (new)

D.G. If you like the premise, then you have 11 more books to look forward! :) #12 just came out a couple of weeks ago and it was great. :)

for now on to The Gladiator's Master by Fae Sutherland .

How do you think I'd feel about it? Do you have any sort of idea? I'm curious but have been afraid to try.

Finished Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend (Confessions, #2) by Louise Rozett and it was fun but frustrating at the same time. I liked it well enough though. Also finished Being Me (Inside Out Trilogy, #2) by Lisa Renee Jones and pretty much hated it.

Let's all hope I finish by then... I'm still reading it, 59%.

message 1529: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Stacia...in regards to Shatter Me, I think if you can connect with the writing style, you might like it and probably rate it 3-3.5 stars. I say read the first couple of chapters to see if it's a style that you can read. For me, I don't understand why she chose to write the book that way...I'm sure it's for creativity reasons but I just wasn't feeling it. Towards the end, I also felt like some of the ideas were not very original since it reminded me of a particular comic a lot.

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) I'm 'currently reading' Fire & Frost (Iron Seas, #3.4; Code of Shadows, #0.5) by Meljean Brook , but not really...yet. Need more time and the day and less sleep. :o)

Would that be X-Men? I seem to see that comparison a lot.

message 1532: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Finished The Seven Markets (The Seven Markets, #1) by David Hoffman - what an odd, fairy-tale, sci-fi, fantasy book! It's a Netgalley book; I've got to come up with a review for it, but...

Speaking of Netgalley, is anyone else having problems getting books the last couple of days? I've received several before straight to my Kindle, but as of yesterday, I can't seem to make anything come through. It's frustrating, because I got the next Iron Druid Chronicles book, Hunted (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #6) by Kevin Hearne , but it never shows up on my Kindle or in Manage my Kindle. I've double-checked the email address and it's definitely added to receive personal documents... wondering if there's an issue with the Netgalley or Amazon server?

Anyway... read How Hard Can It Be? by Robyn Peterman by Robyn Peterman. OMG! I haven't laughed out loud that much while reading a book in forever! I really needed that!

message 1533: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Lots of posts to catch up on since being away in Calif. for my niece's wedding. Sorry to hear about your job, Lori. Hope something comes your way real soon.

And the fires in CO. - eek! I know exactly what that's like, living in the woods in Wash. state and having been on evac. notice with our cars packed ready to flee. My husband had worked on many fires as a volunteer firefighter and I had worked for the Forest Service and knew many firefighters there.

Ian, glad to hear that you loved WDYGB! I'm ready to listen to it again LOL! I took Sins & Needles (The Artists Trilogy, #1) by Karina Halle on my kindle and Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues (White Trash Zombie, #2) by Diana Rowland on my ipod but forgot to take a pb for that time on the plane where you have to turn off all electronic devices. I have to read something, even for those few minutes! So DH surprised me with a copy of Joyland by Stephen King that he found at the airport while I was in the washroom :D Unfortunately, we were too busy for me to get much reading done while visiting family so I'm still reading all 3.

message 1534: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Thank you, Lisa. Job hunting sucks, but... I'll be alright.

message 1535: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Just finished Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels World #1) by Ilona Andrews So nice to be so engaged in a story after a bunch of mediocre reads. I always loved Andrea so it was great to read her story. My only complaint was that (view spoiler)

message 1536: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Lisa, What part of California did you travel to?

message 1537: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Hey Leea - San Jose and Los Gatos. A lot of my dad's side of the family live in that area plus DH's cousin. Hubby went to high school in San Jose and we revisited his old neighborhood and haunts plus he was able to reconnect with an old pal. Did the rest of your Oregon vacation go well? No more tickets? ;)

message 1538: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments You were definitely not in my neck of the woods. I live in Southern California.

message 1539: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Marcella - we go down to sunny So. Calif. about twice a year where my sister lives and some good friends - get in lots of beach time.

I am about 20 miles from the beach. I live close to Pasadena, CA.

message 1541: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments @ Marcella - not too far from where we go which is Carlsbad where our timeshare is. It's central to the areas we like to visit - both north and south - and across the street from the beach.

message 1542: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments We used to stay in Los Gatos when my youngest had to go to Lucile Packard Childrens Hospital (Stanford) for check ups. It's such a cute and fun area.

No more tickets ;)

We're planning a trip to Carlsbad in Oct. I love those outlets and the boys want to hit Lego Land.

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Love Carlsbad, Leea. We have the same time share so I know how great it is when you vacay there :)

message 1545: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I know, it's awesome!

We're hoping to actually trying to stay in Escondido at The Welk http://welkresorts.com/san-diego/gall...
Look at that pool, the boys would love it!

message 1546: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments That is so nice!! How long are you going? We're due for a vacay but hubby's job is still up in the air. So, we're just doing things locally.

message 1547: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Carlsbad isn't far from me. The mall there is great.

message 1548: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments We haven't booked it yet... hopefully the during the first two weeks in Oct, when the boys are out for fall break.

My soon to be SIL wants to get married in Hawaii that same week and I don't know what to do. We cannot afford to fly all 4 of us there and food. It's just too much to ask in such a short amount of time, IMO!

No it's not Marcella :)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished reading A Dance Through Time (MacLeod, #1) (Time Passages, #13) by Lynn Kurland which was okay...nothing to get excited about.

I was DM'ing Tiffanie DeBartolo on Twitter telling her how I missed her signing last weekend. She has agreed to meet with me!! I am shocked!! How nice is this? She's travelling on & off and asked me to contact her next month to set something up. I'm ecstatic!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments My friend Rebecca got to hang with Tiffanie this weekend. She was one of the authors at the indie shindig. I was so jealous.
