Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I had no clue Isla was out! I will most definitely be reading that soon.

Were there any Anna/Etienne/Cricket/Lola cameos?

Yes, there are cameos from them and Meredith. Plus, you get a little update on what they've been up to. I look forward to reading your review when you're done. I liked this one the most out of the rest.

If anyone is interested in Audiobooks, I have a few on CD that I'd be happy to pass on. They are physical CDs so I'll need an address to send them to but they are CDs so postage will be quite reasonable and I'm happy to send them anywhere in the world.

The books are:

Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean

School Spirits by Rachel Hawkins

Kitty and the Silver Bullet by Carrie Vaughn

Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers, #1) by Sarah MacLean School Spirits (School Spirits, #1) by Rachel Hawkins Kitty and the Silver Bullet (Kitty Norville #4) by Carrie Vaughn

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I finished The Becoming and really enjoyed it! What a great adventure and survival story. The narration really grew on me and I enjoyed it. I immediately started the next one The Becoming Ground Zero (The Becoming, #2) by Jessica Meigs

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments How are you liking it? I read the ARC.

I am kind of obsessed with The Becoming series now.

message 6558: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments If that was for me, Regina, I am really enjoying it. I really liked the twist, and this book hasn't been predictable for me. But I am worried about the ending.

What did you think?

message 6559: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I am starting Dangerous Destiny (Night Sky 0.5) by Suzanne Brockmann next.

message 6560: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I can't wait to start that. :)

message 6561: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments It was good, Regina, but if you got it from Netgalley, be advised: it ends at 33%. The rest is a preview of the first full length novel in the series.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I finished Dangerous Destiny (Night Sky 0.5) by Suzanne Brockmann and am about to start The Real Thing by Cassie Mae , by one of my favorite New Adult authors!

It was annoying, because it was really good! LOL I have a book I need to read ASAP, then I think I'm going to return to this series!

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Oh that is the free prequel on amazon. So I get now why they did the teaser. The first in the series is also on NG. I love Brockmann.

I do, too. She's fantastic. I really need to read the TR's from be beginning and get caught up.

It's been a while since I've read a YA book, but I'm so glad I read this prequel. The dialogue is so fun and snappy! I can't wait for more.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I just picked up The Typewriter Girl. The ratings are in the low 3s which normally makes me reconsider, but I wasn't particularly impressed with the reasons given for some of the low ratings and considering a friend who doesn't generally read romance / chick lit rated it high, I thought I'd give it a go.

Finished Snow Falling on Bluegrass by Molly Harper. This book has the same feel as all Molly Harper books but her writing doesn't feel like any other author...she's kind of out on her own...in the wilds of Kentucky, but I really love her wit and her snark and I liked this one a little more than the first two in the series.

I also started One Bad Apple which is a cozy mystery and pretty good fun.

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i have Typewriter Girl in the pile -I got it as an ARC wayy back when and remember starting it and I think I just got distracted - I don't remember stopping it for any specific reason

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I had the arc of Typewriter Girl too and never got around to reading it. I'm intrigued by the time period.

Finished The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta . I was very disappointed with the second half of the book.

Reading Worth Any Price (Bow Street Runners, #3) by Lisa Kleypas and I'm really enjoying it so far.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Despite being reasonably sure I am going to encounter some nightmare inducing moments...what with the puppets, I am going to start SEP's new book, Heroes are my Weakness in the next couple of days.

The Typewriter Girl is next on the list, along with The Deception of the Emerald Ring which was almost a group read but got changed at the last minute...I bought it so I may as well read it. I hope to get to The Chronicles of Moxie in the next few days.

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Kleypas. She captures a certain style of wit and banter that is so much fun to read.

Oh, I just looked it up. I liked that book!

message 6576: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I hope you both read The Typewriter Girl.

The book's GR rating is 3.18 ... which tells me there are a lot of high ratings but also a lot of low ratings.

I actually have a theory...but I just don't know if it's valid or if I'm somewhere in the outfield holding a tennis racket.

1. The heroine in this book is angry and assertive ...and she has every right to be. But as a society we don't like angry assertive women and tend to try to push them down, use diminishing language against them.

2. She has used her sexuality to get by in life... she isn't the innocent woman we kind of demand women to be... I wonder if people who read the book with the idea that it was going to be a typical historical romance have railed against that.

Honestly I'm not really sure....to me (@50%) this is a 4 Star book...maybe even higher, and the ratings have left me wondering what's going on.

I'll BR this one with you, Ian. When will you start?

message 6580: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Couple of meh reads Baby, Don't Go by Susan Andersen This would have be fun except I felt like there was a lot of cheesy 80s language in it that kind of jarred with the fast snappy banter. And The Bride Insists by Jane Ashford bored me. The hero was a whiney alcoholic that I couldn't get behind.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Anna (Bobs Her Hair) wrote: "I'll BR this one with you, Ian. When will you start? "

I'm at 30% Anna. It's takes a bit of getting into and I feel a little lost but it's starting to pick up some momentum now.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Samantha wrote: "I'm listening to Seraphina (Seraphina, #1) by Rachel Hartman and it is going good so far."

I've been wanting to read that book for a while. I can't wait to see what you think of it.

Finished Worth Any Price (Bow Street Runners, #3) by Lisa Kleypas and quite enjoyed it. I can't say that it was a favorite Kleypas, but it was much better than the first 2 books in the series and a solid 4 stars.

Started Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan and woo boy...it's rough already. The writing needs some work.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments So, I just had my first ever official DNF. It was What the Heart Wants by Jeanell Bolton , and I just couldn't get through it. I have so many books to read, I decided to let it go. I'm still having a bit of anxiety about it. I can't stand to leave a book unfinished!

I am now reading The Laird (Captive Hearts, #3) by Grace Burrowes , and just like the first two in this series, this book is so full of emotion. This series is the only thing of hers I have read, but it has catapulted Grace Burrowes to the top of my favorite historical romance authors list. She is such an amazing storyteller.

message 6585: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 419 comments It is always hard to DNF but I have so many books to read that I can't put energy into something that is not good or holding my attention.

I agree. And books are so readily available now. It's not like the 'olden days' where I need something to hold me over until I can make it to the book store. LOL I'm trying to get better at this. There are so many books that I have forced myself to finish, and I just don't want to waste that time when I could be reading something I love!

Samantha | 419 comments LOL @ Stacia. OMG. You are better than me for reading that.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments There were actually a couple of moments which were funny. But after about the 10th time of Dustin recounting how he got laid, it got to be way too much.

I am looking forward to the movie though. I hope there's a lot of dirt!

message 6597: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 222 comments I'm reading Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. It was slow in the beginning, but has since picked up.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments You'll have to let me know how Mistborn goes. I've been wanting to read it for a while!

About the Saved by the Bell movie. I didn't realize that they were going to use Dustin Diamond's perspective because at least 50% of the movie looks like it came from his book.

I finished Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan . The story wasn't bad (I did enjoy the romance) but the writing was...eesh. Not so good.

Working my way through Wherever You Are by Sharon Cullen and the writing isn't much better than it was in Archer's Voice, but I seem to be enjoying the book much more because of the whole time traveling/pirate ship angle.

Ian and Anna, I'll try to start Skin Game (Skin, #1) by Ava Gray tomorrow.

message 6599: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I'm reading A Love to Call Her Own by Marilyn Pappano.

A Love to Call Her Own (Tallgrass, #3) by Marilyn Pappano

I really kind of love Marilyn Pappano. OK she's plainly a christian and I'm plainly not(she talks about praying and stuff)...but with all the books that deal with the mental health issues returning servicemen and their families face she seems to be the only author who gets that it isn't just one thing.
It suspect that these books aren't well researched because they don't need to be, because she's seen it and lived it.

That said it's still quite firmly rooted in the CR genre.
